Issue with accruing an aircraft is this.... You dont own it and you will be in mercy of some other country for spares.... Transportation of spares from one country to another is risky... Especially from USA and Russia We already own a metal sheet that looks like an aircraft but it has no engine ... Soo put all money in developing an engine for it Then mass produce it (Tejas ) I don't know what Air marshal thinks... Better he should apply for his retirement.... Because you can't successfully operate a fifth gen aircraft in the Indian subcontinent because of humidity... The radar absorbent layer gets oxidized quickly... If there is no good stealth capability the 5th gen can be shot down using a 4 th gen, 4.5 gen, 4.5 + easily So buy a 4.5 gen, if you are into doing 😂hardcore ... If you are not into war buy the 5th gen .. Cuz it looks cool in paper

Agree, presently F35 is being used by inner cotre of US defence allies who would be ready to sign on the dotted lines if US ask them to . Presently US , UK Israel , Italy and Australia are the countries using F35 .Canada has ordered 88 F35 and are expected to start getting the supplies from 2026 with a fully operational 4 squadron by 2033.

Irony is that Whatever U choose you wont get any 5th gen before 2035...regardless if you build it locally or import... In both cases the jet will arrive around 2035, what Indians don't realize that even If they place the import order today it'll take atleast 1decade for 1st batch to arrive due to order book is full or aircraft is still under development (su57), USA never offered F35 yet instead they're only pitching for F21 (F16)

Yes! In such a case, India should go for developing AMCA and placing an order for the Russian SU 57 also. Further, India should go for TOT from Russia for production at our end.

@manikanthan4693 su57 is the same project from which India pulled itself out, its still under development and Russia will never agree on TOT, further some says su57 isn't even full 5th gen like f22 or j20, it maybe a stealth killer but its not fully stealth , only 1 or 2 batchs are operational, not deployed by Russia

From the outset ...each and every airforce chief who have retired till now has said...that all the domestic programs are in parallel with purchase of foreign jet... LCA Mk1 IOC---FOC---LCA MK1A ---LCA MK2---AMCA this is the order no matter what...in domastic programs... MRFA AND FGFA are our PPP models...for foreign fighter procurement...this should be clear for each n every one before criticizing...and yes purchasing of FGFA has become top priority now... because of our northern neighbour... atleast 1sq of Su-57...for now

It's better we concentrate & speed up collaboration with France for Kaveri engine or new engine development for AMCA with SAFRAN. And we should get Rafale or Eurofighter or F21 & speed up TEJAS MK 2 . Is shiv Aroor taking notes from someone regarding the choice of developing indigenous stealth fighter or buying one from Russia/America. His use of words or language is exactly in two different shows on the same topic is almost a cut paste.Hope the decision making body at the apex level in this matter is competent enough to evaluate the ground situation , our R&D and Military manufacturing complex capability, the momentum and the mojo of atmanirbhar theme. In the matters of engine. development Indian R&D agencies have not yet shown a promising marksheet. With a long and complex decision making process in defence procurement bureaucracy , India should take an informed decision considering startegic and tactical compulsions.

SU 57- Even Russia can’t deny that building materials are sh**y because of the embargo. F35- Good weapon package and EW suite but the cost of integration will be so high that buying 30 and 100 may cost the same. Also spare parts from USA comes with conditions. It’s imperative to USA and General electric that AMCA program never comes to fruition, relations with India are becoming good after so many years, they wanna take over Russia in selling weapons to the biggest weapons importer(also take away Russia’s financial support in the process). GE and US factors will try their best to halt or sluggish engine supplies, or torpedo the Indian Engine program, so that production becomes slower for more 5-10 years, and in desperation at the dwindling squadron strength India has to buy something in large numbers. F35 needs buyers, badly, it didn’t live upto the hype, also mass exportation didn’t happen.

India stepped out of the FGFA program because Su57 didn't meet India's need. Now going for it would prove that to be bad decision. Buying it also means US sanctions. On the other hand F35 will come with a long do and don't list. AMCA is half a century away from induction (yes considering the track record that's the likely timeline). India should not get into this 5th gen plane race , while it's still flying that "museum gen" Mig 21s because of dwindling fleet. The best course of action: just buy a decent 4th gen fighter to replace all Migs/Jaguars. 200 Tejas will eventually come. Go for F21. It will encourage the Americans to atleast 'assemble in India' & develop the aerospace ecosystem by bringing both GE & Lockheed Martin.

If offered, the IAF would be foolish not to get at least a few squadrons of F35 to keep a qualitative edge in the region for the next decade+, at least it would take the J20 boot off the throat until AMCA gets ready. In terms of RCS it's a big improvement over the legacy Flanker design which is probably the least stealthy fighter aircraft in the world, but I suspect it still falls way short of F-35 RCS.
