Of course it’s strategic. It’s the first biggest battle since WW2. As for the biggest concentration of Ukrainian troops and fortification that’s again true. Ukrainians are losing soldiers in 3 digits daily for weeks as German foreign intelligence reported recently. And yes it’s important. And also an Ukrainian soldier few days ago stated that Russian tactics have completely changed and they’re aiming more and more accurately and decimating targets more effectively. Russians must have had a huge stock and their military industrial complex is upgrading (no wonder we don’t see footages of Ukrainian drones, bayraktar, choppers and planes venturing out that much or Russian tanks being roasted like before). Weapons factories are in adrenaline mode busy producing 24/7 as they’re building new ones and adjusting from many serious setbacks. The economy of Russia has collapsed as stated by the media giving them few months. Remember, life in Russia is still cheaper than any other western country. They are also making huge sums of money out of their energy resources in Asia, including some Asians then re-exporting Russian oil and gas back to Europe (how did Putin come up with this chess move). Im sure General Armageddon got something to do with this battlefield strategy.

Well, a lot of that money just went to support regular people when the economy collapsed, but if we're talking military achievements: they got Kherson back last year, liberating citizens there, and in the area to the east of Kharkiv. Russia has been trying to take down the power infrastructure, but they got generators to render that largely ineffective. A fair amount of those billions are in tanks and infantry fighting vehicles that are being accumulated for a proper offensive when the weather is more promising. A lot of it has also been promised but seemingly not actually delivered yet, including the majority of America's grants early this year.

Because they've been taking about it for half a year, and it's part of the requirement to claim control over Donetsk Oblast, which they supposedly annexed. Also it's their closest thing to a big win after the loss of Kherson last year (which was about four times Bakhmut's population just by itself, or more counting the surrounding region).

If Bakhmut had no military significance, why was it not evacuated by the Ukrainians? Bakhmut is a vital defensive as supply line, as it connects east,, west and north eastern Ukraine.
