General Survival Methodology
Practiced endgame at high rank with no medals at all for consistency sake. Attempt to medal into stage 3 for the massive amount to be gained from bombing, do not bomb for medals in stage 4 as those bombs will be used on bosses/stages. Do not reset if medal chain is lost as they are just a bonus and getting more attempts in is more important.
Self-Destructs: SD just before killing Nose Laughin for bombs to be used on birds. Once on Mad Ball for rank/bombs (I died too early in this run). Once before the stage 3 secret extend. The final SD I did after Earth Crisis was a judgement call as I picked up an extra option and I felt Gain would score well enough to gain another extend.
Autofire: 10hz starting, 12hz at Nose Laughin 2, 15hz at Black Heart 2
Power: Use small powerups to get to power up twice in stage 1, use large to power up 2 more times, get special power level in stage 5 and keep for as long as possible
Options: Get 2 immediately, get 4 in stage 5 whiles setting up homing/search for safety. Switch off homing for NL2 and set up homing on Slayer for stage 6 and try to regain it in stage 6 if it is lost.
Bombs: Bomb the birds and Mad Ball for score, very easy with Gain. Bomb Earth Crisis 2nd phase, the orange large tanks in stage 4, and Satanic Surfer 3rd bullet wave for safety. Bomb MB2 for score and possibly Slayer if needed. Use built up bombs as needed for the Turret Wall and throughout stage 6 as a large amount can be regained. Bomb Junky Monkey Phase 2 to end it quickly. Bomb BH2 vulcan winder, Gain can do this twice for a quick kill but most other ships need to dodge for a short time before bombing. Bomb Glow Squid 3rd pattern for safety and to push the phase.
The corner strat for the final Glow Squid phase generally doesn't work with Gain but I couldn't think straight at that point and got lucky.
