Kings and Generals began remaking its animated historical documentary on the history of the Ottoman empire with the early rise of the Ottoman beylik under Osman I. In the first video we covered the early origins of the beylik, its status among the Muslim states in Anatolia and its early clashes against the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire at Bapheus and Dimbos in 1302 ( • Rise of the Ottoman Em... ). The second episode showed how a tiny beylik became a regional power with the continued battles against the Byzantine empire and other states, including the siege of Prusa (Bursa) between 1317 and 1326 and the battle of Pelekanon of 1329 ( • How the Ottomans Took ... ). As the Ottoman entered the Balkans, they had to face the Serbian Empire and the Second Bulgarian Empire, leading to the battles like Maritsa in 1371 ( • Maritsa 1371 - End of ... ). The Ottomans continued expanding both in Europe and Asia, leading to the conflicts with many states, including the Karamanids, culminating at the battle of Frenkyazisi in 1387 ( • Ottoman Expansion in A... ). As the Ottomans managed to defeat their enemies in Anatolia, they now had time to fight against the burgeoning Balkan alliance that formed against them with Lazar Hrebeljanovic of the Moravian Serbia at its head. His confrontation with the sultan Murad I would led to the battle of Kosovo in 1389 ( • Battle of Kosovo 1389 ... ). In the aftermath of Kosovo, Bayezid I takes the power and continues campaigns both in Anatolia and the Balkans. The events in Anatolia culminate at the battle of Kirdilim of 1391, where the Sultan defeats his Turkic opponents led by Kadi Burhaneddin. The Ottomans became the sultans of Rum getting the title of the Seljuks ( • How the Ottomans Becam... ). Afterwards the Sultan continued campaigning in Europe, leading to the first major Ottoman defeat at Rovine in 1395 against the Voivode of Wallachia, Mircea the Elder ( • First Major Ottoman De... ). Despite that, the Ottoman advance in Europe continued and to counter it, the king of Hungary Sigismund called a crusade joined by many nobles and retinues from the Balkans, France and beyond. This led to the so called Crusade of Nicopolis - the last major crusade and the battle of Nicopolis in 1396 ( • How the Ottomans Defea... ). In the aftermath, Bayezid had a free rein and he blockaded Constantinople. The Roman emperor Manuel II Palaiologos decided to travel to Europe to get help, but got no help in the West ( • Roman Emperor Gets No ... ). But with the Ottoman expansion in the east Anatolia, Bayezid was on a collision course with another conqueror - Timur, which led to the battle of Ankara in 1402.

Timur saw himself as successor to Genghis Khan. His empire collapsed just like the mongol empire after the death of its founder. Ottoman Empire was not founded solely on the ambition of Osman. It had elements of Jihad against europe in its foundation. Ottomans were most successful among all muslim empires because of continuous supply of slave converted soldiers, and state of the art gunpowder weapons.

It shows the strength of instutitions. Ottomans inherited a strong state tradition from Seljuk and E. Rome. Whereas Timurids were bound to the ruler and if he is unsufficient then the state will be no more.

I feel Bayezid is misunderstood. He appears as arrogant but in fact he was highly principled. He flat out refused to handover the people who took refuge in his lands since it was unbecoming of an Islamic Sultan. Also, Timur's reputation of a brutal mass murderer preceeded him. Yildirim was much aware that Timur had destroyed two brilliant Islamic Civilizations in Iran and India only to enrich Samarkand. So Bayezid as a king tried to guard his sovereignty. If a major chunk Türkmen troops hadn't defected to Timur's camp, maybe the result of Ankara clash would be different. Anyhow, the Ottomans did recover from this fatal blow thanks to Mehmet Çelebi the second founder of Ottoman state.

During the Battle, Timur did not send his war Elephants straight away to destroy the Enemy, but instead divided them up cleverly. He has larger reserves and at no time was he in danger, his flanks were stable, the Ottoman left flank collapsed as planned and it moved away, that was enough to cause the Entire Ottoman Army to Panic. This move was brilliant.

This entire battle shows you the fickleness of fate. It took 13 years for beyazid to conquer all of Anatolia, he could have taken Constantinople as well, but he made his biggest by being mean to some emir from Central Asia. He was really good commander, but he was unfortunately outclassed by probably the greatest military mind of that generation. It only took 1 night to completely shake the geopolitical reality that of Mediterranean for Timur. Beyazid was humiliated, his empire completely shaken, and soon to be in civil war. Yet it was timur’s empire that would collapse in a shocking fashion, and it was house of Osman, that would recover and rebuild to become one of the largest empires.

But accept that his army created by Anatoilan Beys whose Bayezid take their land only 10 years ago. so they are in ottoman army but they betrayed Bayezid to take their land back. Pride comes before the fall - had Bayezid made his stronghold in Ankara like it was advised, it could've been a very different outcome. Much credit to Timur who planned to draw Bayezid out while simultaneously doing his political homework and found allies in Bayezid's court.

From the 11th century to the 14th the Turks and Mongols of the Eurasian steppe repeatedly invaded the Middle East, and in the 14th and 15th centuries two partially nomadic Turkic powers, the Ottoman dynasty in the west and the Timurid dynasty in the east conquered the Middle East. This ended the nomad conquests leaving the Turks as the ruling class until the 19th century. Destructive invasions from the steppe were followed by large-scale artistic patronage and the introduction of new ideas.

Next stop after the Ottoman Civil War, the Conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed II and what made Sultan Bayezid II remembered so well in nowadays: Opening his borders and allow the Jews exiled from the Iberian peninsula into his realm and for calling King Ferdinand of Aragon the "wise" ruler for impoverishing his own country and enrich the Ottoman realm by banishing the Jews from Castile and Aragon.

Fact to People who don't know about Timur's ethnic. Timur wasn't 100% Mongol in fact he was Turco-Mongol even he claimed himself emir of turks (turkic). That battle just a mistake. If these two guys were friends there was no any stupid comments in there. Respect to the Turkiye from Uzbekistan even our ancestors fought with each other we won't do these mistakes again.

I believe achievement of these two figures are truly impressing: -Bayezid lightining fast campains vastly expanded the Ottoman Sultanate in Europe and Anatolia, he was also skilled in managing to befriend Stefan Lazarovic, recognizing the value of Serbian heavy cavalry -Timur or Tamerlane, started from zero and ended up to 100, he was both skilled as a general and very shrewd, jumping at every advantage he could get on the battlefield
