It’s incredible that even though the Normans had more success in colonizing Ireland than their Viking cousins did, the native Gaels remained a constant thorn in their side.

Algorithm question...1 battle in all Irish history you could travel back and alter the out come which would it be and why? mine would be Kinsale! for the reason that had we won we probably would have been able to negotiate Irish home rule or something similar and having a better standing in the union instead of the oppressed slave nation we became.
@Clans_Dynasties2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question, there have been so many points in history that could change our whole future and maybe have saved Ireland from so many terrible things, i think this will be next weeks video now you have put it in my head, some of these events like from killing certain kings or saving others really, to be honest i think the siege of dublin by Ruirdre O'Conor where the Normans sallied out and attacked him while the army was bathing is where id have a go.
@antseanbheanbocht49932 жыл бұрын
That's difficult, it wasn't just kinsale that did that though, we were on the losing side in the wars of the three kingdoms and the Battle of the boyne, both really destroyed the native Catholic landowners. Personally I think it's unfortunate that the Bruce campaign failed. Even more unfortunate that Ruaidhrí Ua Conchubhair or Tighearnan Ua Ruairc didn't gut MacMurchada like fish when they ousted him to buy us another few years.
@feral75232 жыл бұрын
@@antseanbheanbocht4993 Yeah great 1 with the Bruce campaign hadn't considered that, had they won it really would have shaken things up. And as for MacMurchada totally agree. Do you think Norman invasion was inevitable eventually? as they had spread all over Europe by that time controlling the Pope(popes) and most of Italy, orchestrating the Crusades etc..
@feral75232 жыл бұрын
@@Clans_Dynasties Sounds so dumb doesn't it getting caught out while bathing, it's kinda similar to battle of Hastings where Hardrada & co got caught unawares sun bathing waiting for hostages to be delivered. How about the battle after the Norman landings where they unleashed a cattle stampede into the Irish ranks and routed them if that had turned out different King Kohn probably wouldn't have come over either later on.

@@feral7523 The papal bull was signed in 1155 by the English pope Adrian so I think they were coming anyway. I still maintain it was forged when I'm around Unionists. 😆

Great video, very clear with great use of visuals. I’m looking into the history of Inishowen myself and just wondering where you’d gotten the info for your maps, specifically with Inishowen being in Tír Eoghain. Could be of great help to me 3:12

Thank you very much. My work comes from multiple sources, but Paul MacCotter is probably the best historian to follow on the political boundaries of Medieval Ireland, I also have a post on FB about the expansion of the Ui Neill from inshowen if you wish to read more. m.facebook.com/groups/543361243673021/permalink/708220347187109/

descendant of Patrick, the name of an old Ulster/Connaught family, mentioned by MacFirbis among the families of Cinel Eoghain seated in the barony of Raphoe, Donegal. if there was ever a name that was at this battle, this is one of them the fact the name can be found in both recruitment areas of both armies.

Did some research, and it seems my ancestors were these same O'Pattons (O'Peatáin) Which family crest out of the ones shown in your video would they have been under? Thanks in advance. 👍

So was George Patton of the O'Patton's? I'd never heard he was Irish. He was born here in Los Angeles so, aside from any other reasons, I'm interested in a fellow native son.

Thanks for the video. I am an American on the other side of the world but I decend from both clans. I decend from Elizabeth Fitzgerald daughter of Gerald Fitzgerald 9th of Kildare. I also decend from Jessie O'Donnell Campbell daughter of Calvagh O'Donnell Lord of Tyraconnel and decant of Hugh O'Donnell and all the people described in your video. Fitzgerald's are decendants of Isabella de Clare granddaughter of Dermot Mac Murchada..King Of Leinster and a decendant of Brian Boru and Kings of Munster and a few other Kingdoms. Hard to wrap my mind around it. I am also a Stewart decendant. Elizabeth De Burgh is also a decendant of all these people via Aoife Mac Murchada as well. Miss you videos man.. been a while since yi7 made one. Hope all is well.
