As much as many may wish to romance about Irish heritage, the English population is significantly higher… we’re all a mix anyway!

My mother, and maternal ancestors, were named Diggin, from Cromane, in Co Kerry. My DNA is a mixture of Viking and Irish. I even have Dupuytren's contracture, the Viking genetic disease. Lucky me.

The Vikings conquered England. The Normans were second or third generation Vikings. They destroyed the Saxons before going into Wales and then later conquered Ireland. It wasn’t the English it was the Normans.

A lot of English have Irish ancestry and have Celtic Briton ancestry . The Anglo Saxons did not wipe them out they mixed with the celts. So English are more celt than Saxon

I have my fathers surname, which is English, but he is half Irish on his mothers side, she was born in Manchester to Irish born parents, she she was English born but completely of Irish decent and she was an O’connor. On my mum’s side I’m a Halpin (which was listed in this video, so, cool 😊, but I did already know of the connection, I did one of those DNA tests and I’m 15% Nordic according to that) and also on my maternal grandmother’s side they were from an Irish branch of the Donald family, which I know was first from Scotland, but close to Ireland so a lot of them migrated there very soon after the name was established, and we know both from tracing the family tree as well as stories my nana remembers from her grandmother that the family had been in Ireland for hundreds of years.

This was truly excellent l- keep up the good work. In Northern Ireland a first name tells so much. Kevin, Seán, Liam, Seamus= Catholic Republican. Ian, Alister, Samuel, William, Graham, Nigel= Protestant Unionist. Roll on the happy day when no one looks twice at a Catholic Nigel or Protestant Liam. By the way, there are today Bodkins in deepest Connemara. And they're Catholic.

Inaccurate to call some of these British Surnames, they are Norman French names, Hiberniores Ipsis Hibernis. Never knew the English called us old English Irish dogs, I love it :-)
