Soulfire eruption was the best card in my Bel Borca exile-matters deck! Takes a LONG time to resolve in paper though!

@PJ. I’ve been watching you for a while and I’ve noticed that in addition to the triangle of Removal, Ramp and Card Draw, you also run at least 2-4 pieces (color pie dependent) of each Graveyard interaction, graveyard recursion, Lifegain and land destruction. Is this born out of specific experience or do you have sort of a template you’re trying to hit with each build? Are there any other categories of cards you think are worthwhile to run in any given deck?

Hey Charlie, the template I use is just born out of my own experience. There aren’t unlimited hours in the days and editing takes so much time that when I go to film I really need the deck to perform the first time out, and the template I use generally allows that happen. Ideally: 13 ramp (or land tax type cards) 13 removal, card draw varies widely in my decks but I try for 5+, then I try to make sure I have 2clife gain cards, a way to blow up lands that doesn’t involve saving your own, and depending on color at least 2 or so ways to reanimate stuff. I noticed that games go much worse when you have no way to gain life back, or no way to get a key card back etc. as a very recent example see the archon tribal game, lack of recursion was an issue in that one. graveyard removal is the one area that I’m usually lacking and I often pay the price for that. I think I might do a video on this. Been thinking about it for a while.

I’ve been trying to look at a package of 4-6 lands that I can run in any deck that will fulfill a handful of those things without affecting the rest of the deck from a color requirement standpoint. I tend to run lower curve and so my land count is usually like 32 so I do need to be careful with that package.

Im pretty sure I put one in, if i didnt, I meant to. We had a rule that you could run both godo and helm just that you couldnt equip godo with the helm.

I had actually thought about that play quite a bit before, but opponents were like completely out of cards and I didn’t want to fuel them back up. Commune was roughly the same idea without giving them cards.

@@CommanderReplay I guess the mana for Commune was free since you had 2 Feast and Famine triggers, and you only had 3 other cards to pay the escape on that. Your opponents were literally all empty handed and had mana up, so Wheeling them into a Shatter or Lightning Bolt would lose you the game... on the other hand, if you hadn't hit Savage Beating, you would've failed to kill anyone and probably died before your next turn. Tough call, nice that it worked out for you.

maybe there will be a another commander/masters set that will just be a card called Sister Yamazaki like the the green and red girls with partener that became a single cards in Zendikar Rising.
