Are there any other examples of rampart-mooning ever occuring? Spat my drink out at @7:50 A defender bared his bum to the king HAHA I can imagine a pompous English king being all offended that his 'subjects' would humiliate him. I think i read one account of Khosrow I sacking Antioch or during the Antioch campaign where the defenders jeered and mooned him, i imagine it's happened several times in history, its a universal gesture and the hilarity you would cause among your comrades would sure be a morale boost, not with wooden ramparts though!

Hoping to see Andrew de murray get a mention in this video Wallace is a hero and all but gets too much recognition since he fought in the lowlands. meanwhile de murray fought a very successful campaign in the North. He and Wallace combined forces and was the main tactician in planning the battle of Stirling Bridge and became guardian of Scotland with Wallace but died of wounds soon after.

@@HistoryMarche Just as bit of advice for your future videos. Don’t big up Loudoun Hill as much as people have done. There is little evidence that the English suffered many casualties at all and it is even possible that the battle was just a standoff instead of an actual battle. Keep up the amazing videos 👍

@@manatarms7652 Do you have any sources please?
@manatarms7652
@manatarms7652 Жыл бұрын
@@austrelien298 Sure thing. There is currently only one contemporary source of the battle which is from an anonymous English courtier who was with Edward 1 in Carlisle who simply stated: ‘the guardian of Scotland [Aymer de Valence] and the other folk retreated before King Hobbe [a mocking nickname for Bruce] without doing any exploit”. This implies there was either a standoff or small skirmish/battle. To be fair, it was most likely the latter as several near-contemporary sources mention an engagement but give no details. The only detailed account of the “battle” was by John Barbour, a Bruce propagandist and proven liar who seems to have tried to mirror his description with the battle of Methven in order to give Bruce a character arc.

14:10 I am amused by the idea that England could "return" an English throne to Scotland in 1996. Bear in mind, the person who did the "returning" was the Queen of Great Britain, the unified Crowns of Scotland and England, so she was technically returning her own chair to herself! One must love some of the quirky legalities that exist in monarchical systems.
@prsancho

You know that, but I’ll say it nonetheless. From the Queen perspective, indeed, it may look just like moving the furniture around; but the key here is not the person, but the place.

@@prsancho Indeed, one can tell how much it warms the hearts of some Scots to think the Stone of Destiny is within traditional Scottish borders again. On the other hand, one could argue that the Stone of Destiny actually already was back on "Scottish soil" even before 1996. When James VI, the crowned King of Scotland, took possession of his English properties, which included the throne and the land it was on, it could be said that Scotland "owned" England, making all English land Scottish land, at least until the Act of Union formally redefined both kingdoms as two parts of one kingdom, sort of...
