Battle of Mogadishu - CH Jeff Struecker

#OTD: Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Mogadishu (Oct. 3-4, 1993).
Retired Chaplain (Major) Jeff Struecker was a staff sergeant and squad leader with the Army’s 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment during the battle made famous by the book and movie “Black Hawk Down.”
CH Struecker reflects on the battle and his calling to the Chaplaincy in this video excerpt from “Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplain’s Journey,” a feature-length documentary film that highlights the “Spirit of the Chaplain Corps” and the vital, unique, and inspiring contributions chaplains make to our military service men and women.
Struecker on his call to the Chaplaincy: “It’s time to stop preparing warriors to meet the enemy, and start preparing them to meet eternity.”

Seems to be a common theme among combat veterans, from the various biographies from veterans I've read from various conflicts over the years, accepting the fact that you're already dead as a kinda coping mechanism.

Jeff Struecker and I worked together. He’s a certifiable hero. The more important statement to make about him is that he is a committed Christian who will not compromise his faith. He’s a great example of what manhood looks like.

I was Airborne qualified in Around mid June of1986 May have went to Airborne school with some of the Blackhawk down personal I was so angry with Bill Clinton and Les Aspin. ( secretary of Defense).

As a Brit working there, the Americans did a fantastic job they certainly did not lose. What was the turning point , when Admiral How ( think it was). Was asked to step down, and the UN took over. They filled the ranks with African managers, who had no other interest but to rob the system. There were some good coalition soldiers and ex still remaining, who wanted to help Somalia. But by then, the corruption was too ingrained within the UN. Also met some really good Somali guys, Col Reggie and his men hats off to them. I was part of the of 3 D, the other two parts Demobilisation and Disarmament. well what can I say about people, who refused to leave the compound and help!
