Prelude to Black Hawk Down: Raw Footage Documentary on Battle of Mogadishu (1993)

On 3 October 1993, US special forces became embroiled in a disastrous battle in the Somali capital of Mogadishu. Three UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were brought down in the city using rocket propelled grenades. The US launched a huge rescue mission for the survivors, but encountered heavy resistence. Known as the Battle of Mogadishu, the conflict was dramatised in Ridley Scott’s 2001 war film, Black Hawk Down.
Using newly-restored footage filmed by ITN’s camera crew stationed in Somalia at the time, ITN Archive presents a special documentary chronicling the events leading up to the battle. Drawing on dramatic footage and key witness interviews recorded between 1992 and 1993, this film tells the story of how the United Nations’ humanitarian mission in Somalia became overtaken by a controversial military campaign, and how popular support for the UN in the country became steadily replaced by widespread hostility towards the US-led military presence.

@ryanoglesbee1075
@ryanoglesbee1075 3 ай бұрын
@@OmmerSyssel by intelligence failure, by failing to address rumors that UNOSOM planned to take control over Radio Mogadishu, and reassure the populace that it wasn't a goal of UNOSOM to do so. And when they did show up to inspect a weapons cache, they failed to address the intentions of what they were doing there at the time. This led to confusion among the locals (locals who were not necessarily connected to Aidid but possibly at least partially so), who thought the foreigners were there to take control of the radio broadcasts, which were the predominant medium of Somalia. And when the violence did break out, the UN body involved was tactically inept, and suffered massive casualties. And while there were Americans and even Italians present, the failure to have unit cohesion amongst such a diverse contingent, and the difficulty to communicate with each other on the battlefield could possibly have been the catalyst that caused such tactical ineptitude.

The 10th Mountain Division QRF were the only US troops in Somalia from April 93 when UNISOM II took over. On June 5 it was troops from TF 1-32 INF 10th MTN Division that rescued and helped recover the Pakistani troops that were ambushed. Many of the dead Pakistani troops were killed by Italian gunships that were told not to engage targets. The Marines were not in country at the time, I know this because I was there as a Sapper in TF 1-32INF. It was troops from this unit that also conducted every subsequent combat mission from June 6th until TF 2-14 arrived in country to relieve us in August. The helicopter dropping leaflets in this video is actually an Italian helicopter not an US helicopter. The weapons storage facility that was blown was blown by my Sapper Squad and not Marines. The troops shown on the road providing security are members of the Scout Platoon of TF 1-32INF. The ITN reporter that put this tripe together got everything incorrect for start to finish.

So we finally hear the other side's version of events. So the Somali's were okay with the aide, but were afraid of the armed presence of the UN, which they didn't ask for. Then when the Pakistanis tried to take away their voice by raiding, oops, I mean "inspecting" the radio station (Radio Mogadishu), the people stood their ground and resisted. They were then killed by the Pakistani soldiers, so the crowd re-grouped, and took out the Pakistanis. Then the UN attempted a coup on Aziz (who was a legitimate leader, not a "warlord" and the UN killed a bunch more people in the process. The people supported him and fought back and won. Bottom line, don't try to overthrow a country with force. It was probably the CIA and UN who created the civil war in the first place to replace their leadership and go in to get the oil. We all saw the Amoco hat on the "aide worker" at 26:25. Obviously an oil company employee LOL. Look at 24:49 and listen to the guys watching the man create fake news and propaganda. Eventually, even the most remote people realize they are being manipulated.

But we were right in the middle of all that crazy sh*t. I lost 4 very good friends during that cluster fk! They were not only great human beings but were outstanding soldiers. We lost a lot of good guys during all that, don't get me wrong,. But 4 of them were real heroes during it all .Two of which gave their lives protecting one of the downed aircrew. Fought to the very fkn end! Rest in peace all my brothers who fell during Operation Gothic Fkd-up Serpent! All were outstanding soldiers and true heroes. God bless them all and God bless America.🇺🇲

Don’t you get it?! Being used as pawns in someone _else’s_ country/games cost your colleagues everything. I won’t mention the loss and destruction to the locals you were ostensibly there to “protect.” _They_ clearly don’t rate a mention - _right_ “Rambo?” It’s all about you, and _only_ you _(as usual)…_ 😐

You're right the world should stop meddling in African affairs and allow themselves to figure it out on their own. @@UzumakiNaruto_ Knowing is one thing, having the opportunity to, is something else. Unfortunately, everything seems to be contingent on how much profit US then western corporations stand to gain - sovereignty/“democracy” be damned. Why are there so many lobbyists in the Washington beltway, what do you think they do to your so-called “representatives?” Why are they allowed to draft your legislation, budgets, speeches and foreign policies? Why don’t politicians leave with modest assets commensurate to their salaries? In the past, impoverished, naïve, nominally “independent” Africa may have begged. The US and its vassal just invade and _take._ Like the difference between a hopeful date and a prolific, sadistic rapist - on anabolic steroids. Look at Syria. I don’t recall _anyone_ asking for regime change outside of Langley, Virginia, the beltway, or your oil company boardrooms. Yet America is stealing thousands of barrels of Syrian oil, *to this very day!* No one in their right mind would invite a psychotic rapist for dinner, I think we can all be grateful Africa has shown enough comparative civility to ask - for now. Pretty soon, America will have to learn to enjoy not only Africa’s marginalisation, but Africa’s poverty, just like France - western -interference- - _“services”_ are not required. Thanks to your _fantastically_ corrupt regime, Africa’s begging days may be over, muriKKKa’s may have just began _especially_ as the dollar is being dumped - en masse. _And all they needed to do, was make nice with the world, instead of attempting to bully, dictate and subjugate it._ Oh well, 87% beats 13% eventually, it’s the law of nature not man…

We shouldn't send American boys to die in European Wars." You history and political science experts want to tell me how that turned out again? You people think we can just sit back and watch countries, including our allies that we have strong economic and cultural ties with, be endangered or even overrun by either hostile nations or terrorist factions? Are we supposed to sit back and say "boy, it sure sucks they were overrun by that neighboring tyrannical dictator, but it's not our problem. Too bad about all those people being executed, murdered and starved to death. Starbucks, anyone?" You people really think we can isolate ourselves behind two oceans while the world rips itself apart? Didn't work 80 years ago, sure as hell won't work now. Domestic and international issues can be handled at the same time, but not by the career do- nothing politicians in both political parties currently infesting Washington now--and especially not with that mumbling, self-soiling, imbecile of a president we have sitting in the white house.
