Great feedback, overview in layman's terms. Already on technical "overload" we really have gotten tired of "reviews" laden with technical data that, at times, we need to stop and think about in relation to "real world" conditions. Good job.

Very fair review. When I was shopping for my lens I had access to both the Canon and Tamron G2. I am shooting Hockey games and I got a higher rate of keeper shots with the G2 lens which surprised me. The only downside I have found is the auto focus shooting action pictures is the camera wake up to focus time is slightly delayed on the G2, if the camera is not asleep than it was as fast as the Canon lens. Once I figured this out I had no issues. Something else I noticed is the G2 has sharper images from 70-135 than the canon, but the canon was sharper at 200. I went with the G2 and couldn’t be happier. I am also using a 7D.

Thanks for great video, review and reconfirming that I got the best for the value. Just ordered my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 lens and can't wait to try it. Have been using Sigma 150-500 mm lens for several years, but needed something with larger aperature and Tamron seemed to stand out from the rest in value, quality and price. Almost went with Sigma, which would have been fine, but still happy that I got Tamron and glad I saw your video to reconfirm my decision.

@@jdanishevsky1 how about sports and video? Low lights ?
@jdanishevsky13 жыл бұрын
@@jaymills1720 I haven't done any video with this lens, since I usually do photography for my clients or personal/hobby. Sports, don't recall if I have done any, but I have done pet shoots, dogs running and portraits of pets and people. Amazing quality, as well as low light. I think that was my main reason originally for this lens, due to f2.8 and absolutely amazing. I took some shots of fireworks, night life and so on. Great results in all of them.
@jdanishevsky13 жыл бұрын
@@jaymills1720 Just in addition, because of this lens, and the quality I saw over a few years, I also sold my Sigma, got myself a few more Tamron lenses for portraits and other photography, so now I own this one, plus 24-70 mm f2.8 and 90 mm f2.8 Macro. All amazing in what they are meant to do. Right out of the box great quality, but of course with time, and some adjusting on how to shoot with all of them, it is better and better. Just in addition to what I mentioned before. Hope this helps.

I would love you to do a series of comparison videos on the which brand has the best lens for a given focal length. Like what is the best Ultra Wide Angle prime (Sigma Art 14mm f/1.8 vs. Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 vs. Rokinon 14mm, etc.) best 35mm lens (Sigma Art vs. Zeiss vs. Canon, etc.), best 50mm lens, best 85mm lens, best 100mm macro lens, best 135mm lens. I think something that would be awesome. Then you can make one final video that lists out what would be ultimate set-up of lenses if you wanted every focal length (i.e Wide - Sigma, 35mm - Zeiss, 50mm - Canon, etc.)

I have a canon sigma 72 mm lens for my black magic pocket cinema camera, and I have a similar problem with what you mentioned focusing. It takes some time for me to focus on something and it is difficult for me to stay focused on things that are in motion. I don't know if it's just my inexperience (I have been using it for a few weeks now) or if it just something about the lens.

how you're doing i just got my canon 80d and i want a good zoom lens like the sigma 70-200 and it's all black and i see it takes great pictures. i want a few lens but i don't want to kill my pockets you understand. but i'm in love with sigma products and plus it's cheaper than canon. i guess those photographers can buy them cause they get paid i do this for fun and i want to be good at what i do ya see.i want to get this 70-200 f2.8 over the canon 55-250 so i want your opinion i'm going to buy the 18-35 sigma lens the 35mm 1.4 sigma lens and the 70-200 that's a good combination right? i was thinking 24-105 and the 24mm pancake lens and my collection is complete

Great review Tom, on these lenses. The Canon is still marginally better with no focus breathing, but it comes at a premium of about $1000 Canadian.. where as the Tamron ( you spelt it wrong in the notes) is on par optically, suffers the focus breathing, but has the best VC, IS, OS on the market all for a huge savings. I went bang for buck and own the trifecta of Tamron zooms, the 70-200mm is probably the lowest rated in comparison to the Canon option, the 24-70 mm Tamron is better than the Canon as it is stabilized and optically just about as good, and the ultra wide 15-30 mm destroys the Canon at that range.. for less money. So overall for bang for the buck the Tamron products can't be beat. 💥 stunning color rendition and sharpness for a fraction of the cost. I have adapted them to the a7ii and a7rii and the work fabulously.. except the 70-200 mm in low light.. but even then as you are back button focusing.. if you twist manual focus the focus peaking kicks in on the Sony with the Tamron lenses, it doesn't with the Sigma.. fantastic never missed a shot. Sigma lenses as well on the mc11 adapter are pretty close to Sony native, and it is always improving with lots of firmware updates. Canon is definitely going Polaroid in the photography market.. from a projection point of view I would stay away from them although the 70-200 mm it's a beast if you have extra money burning in your pocket.. then it is a can't miss lens. One of the few they have left that is class leading.

Thanks for the video. From the test charts, the Canon looks quite a bit sharper than the others. I have the Sigma adapted for Panasonic M43 cameras - it's fine but a little bit soft wide open. To be fair though, most full frame glass is likely to under-perform with M43 sensors. I've had it for a few years and have used it in action exactly once - it's just too heavy really, and the focal length hasn't been needed in my shoots. This would be true of the other brands too. For portability and quality, native glass is the way to go. But I'm hanging on to the Sigma because... well, you never know. :) Thanks again.
