Hey Gabe, hope the surgery goes well, and the recovery smooth. I have played both iron sets as well. I was fitted a few months ago and these 2 sets came in as the favorites out of about 5 different makes. I then was able to test both sets of irons on the course over a few weeks each. I actually liked both the SIM 2 MAX and JPX 921 HM but actually hit the SIM's farther and more consistent then the JPX. Actually the SIM's felt/sounded good to me as well and that is what I went with in the bag. I will do another fitting after the 1st of the year and change out my Driver, 3 wood, and Hybrid (which right now are also TM but about 10 years old). Wedges will be after that, right now Vokey's (52/56). Look forward to seeing you back in the new year.

I hope your surgery went well. I was actually looking at used sets when I came across a good deal on the Mizuno 919s new, so I went with that. I have been playing original TM Burner irons (fr '96), which I still love, but age has zapped a lot of distance and I figured it was worth it.

Hope your surgery went well, I myself had shoulder surgery Dec.6 (rototor cuff cleanup) and I'm good to go for '22. I have a fitting scheduled in 3 weeks, I currently have TM M4s regular steel shaft...looking to go to graphite. I will definitely test these 2 along with the Callaway DCB and the new Stealth iron. Good review. Both are great choices, and I seriously considered them. I ended up going with the Wilson Staff model CBs instead, pretty forgiving in their own right, but with that satisfying forged sound and feel. I don't mid the weaker lofts, and for that matter I don't mind stronger lofts either. if I know what the loft is I know about how far I'm going to hit it, regardless of the construction.

Excellent points and review. Earlier this year, I got fit by a master fitter, and for my swing the JPX921s beat out some pretty amazing competition. As you mentioned, Mizuno gives you lots of shaft options for no up charge and that let us really dial in the iron set. The only con for me was overshooting a few greens, due to the extra length. Best of luck with the surgery, and looking forward to your videos one you’re back.

Good review, I dont know why everyone is always talking about gaining 10 yards, you can just use the 8 instead of the 9. Most people who dont golf all the time, can only hope to hit the ball straight every shot, and the distance is secondary item. If you are good enuf to only concentrate on exactly how may yards you get per club, you can pick on loft, which is something that is now changing and getting hard to understand.

Do the 921 hot metal 8,9, and wedges still feel really good compared to other clubs that’s not the forged?

Hi my fitting is coming up in two weeks and lots of questions are popping up. Generally speaking my TM M4 7 iron (off the rack, not fitted) is good for 150, I’m your typical Saturday duffer.I’m better with irons than off the tee because i have this bad habit of trying to kill the driver but not so with irons…Taking a guess what kind of distance increase would one possibility get properly fitted on the Sim 2 Max or the 921. I’m going to one of the best fitters around, generally regarded as the best in Connecticut. Could I possibly get 10. Yds more?

I'm all for new members. They can join Saturday :D. I've been using the Sim2s now for the past few months and in general like them. My only issue is the sound. Sometimes I hit the ball and I think I actually mishit it. After playing forged clubs most of my life it is something to get used to but I dropped a couple of strokes off my handicap so I can't complain too much. Good luck with the surgery, hopefully you won't lose all of the good weather before you heal up. I know I am going to enjoy getting down there to play with my dad at The Founder's Club next month.

I've just been fitted into those jpx 921 HM. Waiting for them to be made. I am a beginner golfer, 6 months. I have some older clubs, "senior", "forgiving"... THAT IS BS. If you are a beginner, do not use old shitty clubs. Just buy at least ONE new high-end club, for training, having fun, gaining good habits. A pro can play quite well with old or cheap clubs, but a beginner will suck terribly and will struggle to make any progress. Just one example: my old clubs, although supposed to be "forgiving", when not hit in the exact center of the face - just turn. I feel it in my hand, so in the next swing, I grip the club stronger. That makes me hook a shot. So I try to correct my swing and face angle. That makes my swing less smooth and I fat or thin the ball. That makes me want to throw the club away and leave the driving range. Just spare yourself this experience. Buy good clubs. When you will be a single-digit player you will be able to experiment with noname clubs from a market shelf...

@LetsPlayThru3 жыл бұрын
well there's no doubt the value of the D9s is the best bang for buck if that's the main consideration. But on pure stats both of these win out for me in nearly every category. Did you try the SIM2s that day you were here?
@MarkSmith-hq8yu2 жыл бұрын
You talk about using one less club, what is/was the loft difference between your irons and the clubs you were trying out? If it's a 3-4 degree difference, that's where the clubs will go further and you need less club. Some peoples clubs, depending on the age, could be 5-6 degree difference. Today's irons have a stronger loft, ergo they go further.

Well, here in the U.k, the prices are pretty much the same, and the rrp of the Mizuno is £70 less than the TaylorMade, add to that the added value of the choice of no uplift shafts in the Mizuno, the better value is defo in the Mizuno’s favour in my opinion. Also the Mizuno’s are by far the better looking club, from in the bag to behind the ball, those Sims are just not nice looking.

Ah, that’s very interesting. If so, that def makes the decision a bit more complicated

Very interesting/timely video for me. I recently came into possession of both the 912 HM and Sim (1) Max OS. From the range I think I'm going to play the 912's not because I am any better with them, but almost because I'm so bad. My strikes are so inconsistent that I couldn't tell you if I hit one better then the other. But when it comes to feel, I can tell you where on the club face I hit the Mizuno's, and on the Sim's I can not. That could also come down to the sim's having carbon shafts, but I feel like my game will get better if I know where my strikes are landing on the face and how I'm miss-hitting.

One more category: longevity. I would pick up an old Mizuno set any day, never consider an old Taylor Made set. In a year you will be looking to up grade the Sim, not the Mizuno.
