@@Mr.OctopusModels he never talked about it until his death bed, wish we’d recorded that! His squad was cut off overnight and he was the only one who made it back alive. He was supposed to receive a silver star but wanted his buddy who was killed right beside him to receive it.

Much to be proud of, just to survive is an award in its own. My Dad also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Bastogne, 101st Airborne two Bronze Stars, I have a photograph of him leaning against the Bastogne city limits sign with a big grin on. Just 19/20 years old, men were men.
