Hi Jim, greetings from the land down under . I recently got fitted with the Wilson irons and chose a combo set. The blades 7- pw are fantastic . I do not swing the club fast , approx 90 mph however as far as ball disbursement I definately made a good choice in the blades . Most times I could throw a rug over the balls hit on the range , they finish that close to each other. IMHO Sacrificing distance v accuracy is an important consideration and well worth dropping distance for consistent accuracy.

Gapping is by far better with blades Also, thin soles suit some deliveries better than the giant sole irons.

I’ve always understood that large game improvement irons with a ton of offset were usually called shovels. Blades were usually called butter knives but never shovels

The butter knife is certainly a blade description. What it does causing the added ground dig is why I call them shovels. I’ve not called game improvement irons shovels because I give description based on the performance. Where GI irons usually do dig. Thanks

Hogan irons, especially the older ones, have the rounding of the sole just right.

Les, that brings to mind the 1988 Hogan Apex Redline Irons I once had. They were phenomenal.

Go to a hitting bay and hit several hundred balls with the same mid iron. Do this over a few hitting sessions without cleaning the clubface. Afterwards see the ball mark pattern on your iron's clubface. The circular or oval strike pattern on the clubface will tell you how large or small a clubface you should be playing with. I have read that the strike pattern of Attaya Thitikul is a tiny circle!

I like that the Wilson has the toe weight to prevent or help prevent hooking. However, as much as I love Wilson's, the blades are for hitters who consistently hit the center of the club... Probably a low single digit handicap. I'm a 9 and probably need to stay away from these.. Thought they do look beautiful!!

My understanding in regard to the lofts is that the blades are weaker, more of the traditional lofts, because of launch that is needed. The more game improvement irons with perimeter weighting and very low CG can launch the ball higher with a stronger loft per club. Blade lofts are not weaker because of a stronger player. Bryson Dechambeau has his clubs in way stronger lofts because he would launch the ball way too high and with too much spin if he played standard lofted clubs.

@@McGolf yes indeed I own every form of clubs my fav is my hybrid set 3-pw… it’s not all about looks and casual golfers just need too seek performance rather than looks because blades aren’t for everyone … I don’t golf too show off looks wise I golf too show off shot wise… cuz I’m a wise golfer lol . I enjoyed your videos by the way thru the lil years of golfing ! Keep it going !

@@rickpetryk2658 my fav blade is cobras blade the latest forged blade and the one prior is very good. Apex pro blade is nice too play with but that’s only cuz im a great striker… brings the buttery soft feel out when you strike it right… but since im Not perfect I settle for forgiveness of hybrid and only being out blades for my par 3’s and par 4 courses lol 😝

I agree in theory that you can play blades regardless of hdcp, but there are not better ball strikers on the planet than the pros, and the VAST MAJORITY of them do NOT play blades.
@jon47153 ай бұрын
True, but it’s a hobby. I’m not playing to make myself better with gear.
@McGolf3 ай бұрын
I would agree on the pro statement except to say in the lower end of the set I would believe pros and playing blades however as we go up the set it will go to a players cavity
