Feels like the term Staff is analogous to what another company calls proto. Implying brought to us by tour players. I love it. Considering a switch!

I've been playing a set of 2014 Wilson FG V4 irons for many years and decided it might be time to upgrade. I just got back from local shop and had every intention of picking up a set of close out 2022 D9 Forged irons. I swung those and then swung the 2024 CB. WOW! Unbelievable difference. I also swung the dynapowers which were also better than the D9's, but I ended up ordering a set of CB's. Can't wait for the snow to melt. Like and subscribed.

Thanks for the video. I game the prior gen Wilson Staff CB. There are amazing for me. I love that you jacked these 2 degrees stronger. I'm often wondered if I should try getting mine bent 2 degrees stronger to gain a few extra yards. I carry my 7 155 yards. I hit them so well and straight, I've been afraid to mess with them though.

When you adjusted the lofts two degrees stronger, how much of an effect did that have on the bounce angle? Is that something one should be concerned about? I currently have the D7 forged right now and they are the best irons I have ever had but I am torn between the new CB's and the Dynapwr forged for my next set. IF the distances are comparable I may go to CB's as my ball striking is certainly good enough and I love the thought of a little softer feel and a little more workability. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! (Whichever I choose to do I will get professionally fit)

It would be interesting to compare the CB to the previous model. The previous model had tungsten weighting, the new one does not look like it does.

Great review! I would definitely flirt with the idea of strengthening the loft by two degrees as well. So is the Tri-brace system gone or is Wilson just not advertising it? Obviously it seems like it’s not there at first glance but I don’t know. Same thing with the tungsten weighting. I will admit that the omission of both of those features makes the club look WAY better in my opinion than the previous iteration. Not that the previous version was ugly but this model looks cleaner. I am looking to upgrade from my game improvement irons and these are an option but I would like to buy the previous version because it’s cheaper. Is the new model much better than the old one?

You can order both of these clubs with up to 2 degrees stronger or weaker in lofts and I assume since they are pretty soft you could probably get 3-4 degrees? What do you think is the max loft you can bend with these?

Okay Jim, you've got me slobbering over the CB's. My playing partner hits a Callaway Rogue ST Pro with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. From time to time he'll put one of his clubs in my hands and says "hit this one." What I've noticed is I hit them most times, as far as I hit my current irons, and with better accuracy. I also produce better trajectories with them.; a little higher than with my own clubs. What I really notice with them is how balanced they feel in my hands from club to club. They don't feel overly heavy in the clubhead. I realize they are heavier and stiffer shafts than I play, but they don't feel like it. How would a DG S300 pair with the CB heads. Would they feel as balanced as the Rogue ST Pros that my buddy lets me swing? Thank you for taking the time to answer and thanks for this great video!
@McGolf
@McGolf 6 ай бұрын
The Rogue st pro is a different animal. It is a hollow body iron and closer to the D9 forged instead of the CB. More forgiving possibly stronger lofted etc. The DG shaft are a good pair with the CB. I believe it is wilson's go to shaft. it is also heavier than your current shaft.

Curious how the CB 2 iron and 3 iron will perform in comparison to all the driving irons out there on the market today, as most other OEMs don't offer 2 and 3 irons in their normal iron set. Seems to be just Wilson now. BTW, is there any hollowness in the CB? Or is the face just as solid as the MB?
@McGolf
@McGolf 6 ай бұрын
The driving irons will certainly be a better choice for getting the ball up as they are more designed with wider soles and lower CGs

These are beautiful irons, I just love the way that Wilson combine modern tech and touches of retro look. Of course the fact that they are very shiny also helps!! MB is probably beyond my ability but the CB is just about perfect for me, I would love to test it against my current i210s and the Blueprint S irons (also one of the prettiest irons out there). Only concern is that the spin rates for a 6i with the CBs seem a bit too low, although that may be James' swing, I would want a 6i spin rates 5000-5200 rpm with a 28 degree loft (on basis James did strengthen them by 2 degrees). Personally, I do not see the need to jack the loft although I can understand why that might make them appeal to more people.

Hi Jim, how would you compare the cb with the d9 forged ? Thx
@ultimatejay
@ultimatejay 5 ай бұрын
The new dynapower forged is the replacement of D9 forged. The CB's are smaller and thinner top line and are less forgiving with weaker lofts. The D9 7 iron is 30.5 degrees and the stock CB is 34 degrees. That is a huge difference. YOu could get the CB's bent stronger.
@charlesbartholomew2910
@charlesbartholomew2910 6 ай бұрын
2 degrees stronger also takes away 2 degrees of bounce, Jim, making it easier to dig with them. What are the measured bounces of the CB's?
@McGolf
@McGolf 6 ай бұрын
The CB sole is a bit wider than the MC for sure. The actual radius of the sole is very good no flats. the leading edge is very rounded too. The 2 degrees should not be as noticeable for golfers that take normal diviots, however if a golfer is a big time divot taker they may not like it.

What’s the modern obsession with strengthening lofts. I get you can get more distance but what’s the point. Just go from say a 7 iron to a 6 if you need more distance. All that happens by jacking the lofts is that most players can’t hit the longer irons. This is evident in that most sets don’t contain a 3 iron and some even stop at a 5 iron. Jacking the lofts also screws up the bottom end meaning you need more wedges to get correct distance separation. All marketing bullshit so they can say their 7 irons go further than somebody else’s or somebody can say wow I hit my 7 iron 180 yards. No you can’t it’s really a 6 or a 5 iron. I’ll stick to traditional lofts and happily take my 3 iron out of the bag.
@ultimatejay
@ultimatejay 5 ай бұрын
Because you're using a shorter club that is easier to hit. shorter clubs will always be easier to hit consistently. Not everyone has 90-100mph club head speed. Why does a 7 iron have to be 34 degrees? Those lofts were made ages ago. I hit my 8 iron a lot better than my 7 iron. Now imagine hitting your 8 iron the same distance as a 7 iron. Distance is distance. Makes a lot more sense to use a club that is easier to hit the longer distances. Get the obsession now?

If you love he game, get blades in your bag and lap up every sweet hit till you can't swing no more. I live once and I aint playing that so called "game improvement" junk.
