This was the game that thought me to use mouse at maximum sensitivity in gaming :D There is a milion features to each unit it's not even funny. If not for the outdated graphics, if You mention those features to someone who doesn't know the game, there is no way he is going to assume this game is 20 years old... Just to point out few of them: 1) Height advantage not only for ranged, but also for melee units. If You are charging uphill, you get damage penalty, if You are descending from the hill you gain damage bonus. Spearmen is immune to height disadvantage. 2) Wirewolves have so called Alpha-passive. Not only are they not attacked by straying wolves in the forest, but stray wolves in the forest will actually follow them and submit to them... How cool is that?!?! 3) You gain more yin/yang points the further you fight from your base, insentivising aggressive gameplay. 4) Mixed damage type even within only melee mode. For example Spearmen does pierce damage, most of the time, but when he puts the spear in the ground and starts kicking - this sequence is actually blunt damage... 5) Swordsman are immune to projectiles while running. (passive evasion) 6) Pretty much every unit has some kind of hidden passive skill...

Hey mang. Yeah I'd heard of a couple of these like the mixed damage types and things but yeah didn't know how many passive effects there were. Defiantly advanced for its time. Wish it could portray that information easier in game like holding your mouse over a unit portrait or even giving dps and damage type would have been awesome

When a weak to cutting unit takes cutting damage there is blood and sound of sharp steel meeting flesh, when weak to blunt unit takes blunt damage strange symbols like # and ? jump out of it.. and you can see this effect on the spearmen kicks ;P The height advantage is redicilous btw. If You play the dragon clan you can put Arah (the keep archer hero) on a tower that is on the hill and she will literally one shot almost anything :D

Back in the day I was so amazed by this games graphics and animation..unlike Warcraft 3, units in this game have multiple attack animations making every clash epic. I swear I once saw Otomo tripped by a rock while fleeing from battle. Lol

14:40 There's a LOT of lore behind the BR-verse that simply isn't mentioned in the game, though you can find it on the battle realms wiki/fansite. To summarize it, the Dragon Clan used to live on a much bigger continent to the north of the game's setting, until the Horde (it's never explained what exactly the Horde *is*, just a band of creatures that kill everything in its path) drives them south, forcing the then-head of the clan to use the Orb to summon the Dragon to destroy the Horde. Apparently, somehow, some way, the Horde managed to survive and reappear centuries later, when fallouts between the Serpent, Lotus, and Wolf clans make them vulnerable to being played with by the Horde's leader (the Nightvol) taking the guise of a human of unknown origin. In the Serpent campaign, the Nightvol promises to give the Orb to the leader of the Wolf, giving him enough power to return to the Wolf's ancestral homeland and be free of the enslavement forced upon them by the Lotus. In the Dragon campaign, the Nightvol works with the Lotus clan, again by offering them the Orb, only this time promising them a way to topple the Serpent and assert themselves as the dominant force in the land, as well as to "rid themselves of corruption" (i.e. the side effects of the religion/magic they practice).

I think the Nightvol and the Horde appear when there is enough evil in the world. I'm guessing that they first appeared because of the corrupt lotus wizards gaining some influence and power. Then they appeared again when the Serpent Clan started going against the honorable ways of the Dragon Clan which they were originally derived from.

Loved this. Recently started playing the game again and was surprised how hard the ai beat me 2v1 and how much depth the game has available if you look for it. Insanely underrated game.

What I love about this game is how replayable the campaign is, after finishing it once, you realize that there's a variety of ways to either make the game different or challenging, like picking up no allied heroes to go with you throughout the story (for dragon and serpent a minimum of 2 heroes can be received). You also have options to either have one or the other heroes, like picking between garin and arah (ara) or utara (ara) and koril. I also like how the names have more meaning. Like Taro meaning eldest son which is exactly what taro is in the game and kenji meaning second son which is also accurate in the game's storyline. I just love the game overall for what it is, sad though that we didn't get lotus campaign, I was really waiting for that Lair of the Lotus stuff. For campaigns I agree how dragon is harder endgame. For early game dragon is easier, for late game serpent is easier gameplay wise.(pretty much having a max of 6 heroes + monks and considering fighting the wolf is way easier than fighting the lotus in dragon with like a max of 5 heroes+ninja, though for some reason tao can give you 6 ninja while for serpent I guess it's bugged or nerfed since you can't have more than the default 4 monks.) Before I could actually see what the minimap looks like ,a massive help in the wolf mines campaign, removing it just made it extremely hard especially the 4th time in the wolf mines. It's acceptable for people who played the game before that "memorized" where compartments are but it's genuinely harder for newer players. In the end though I still love the game for it being offline too.

i remember playing this with friends back in the day. we all usually mass 1 single unit and meet at center lol i usually go for either mass warewolf or mass warlocks/master warlocks. then i learned the kabuki warrior blinding dust trick. you just send all your kabuki into battle, spam their special 3 times then let them go crazy. usually mass kills a lot of enemies really fast. there's also mass unclean ones or mass musketeer on horses supported by healers also on horses. and my favorite hero was Koril. ive solo back doored players with just that hero while our main armies battle at the center. another 1 was Arah. that bow arrow range + damage is nice.

The perspective on the AI of both dragon and serpent campaign is acurate. In the dragon, the ai is just pure chaos making you wonder where the heck are they getting these armies and resources in a short amount of time and of course... the lightning towers. In serpent, the ai does act skirmish. They rebuild their bases over and over that you have to leave forces on those areas to ensure not a single enemy is in the map.

Also funny thing in both dragon and serpent campaign, there are times you can build on another area or conquer a base while destroying one. In Dragon - Serpentholm Part 2, I conquered the serpent base at the start and I never fought the serpent ever again besides the guards and Shinja's hidden keep. And only 1 Lotus Base In Serpent - Serpentholm Part 2, I abandoned my starting base and conquered Otomo's Base which made the entire game so ez while dealing the annoying skirmishing ai.

A bit late but the big reason why the Dragon campaign is so much harder is because your primary antagonist is the Lotus Clan, who straight up counters the Dragon. Many of the Dragon Clan's units are weak to magical attacks, which the Lotus have in spades, and the ones that arent hsve weaknesses to other attack types, like blunt and cutting.

My first RTS game, got it when I was seven and was TERRIBLE at it. But it actually has such a surprising amount of depth. Like, every unit in the game has passive abilities that you can't even learn about in-game unless you spend hours upon hours observing them. It's kind of crazy.

Apparently the company that creates the game has already declared bankruptcy. One of the dev team (probably the project manager, sort of) re-released the game on Steam recently and apparently continuously update it

Yeah I think I was a bit slow on the Cyberpunk one for sure compared to other reviewers but having to compete with other (more legit) reviews probably doesn't help. But then you look at battlerealms and I've probably got the best vid of any type on it because it's real old school. That way, you feel satisfied with your work with or without traction. Also, maybe you could balance it out with games that are trendy, and those that are old and nostalgic. I don't think riding trends is a bad thing unless the review is not genuine. Honestly, I actually started off playing minecraft on my channel (NOT SELF ADVERTISING, no worries. ✌😅) just for the sake of playing something trending at the time without actually feeling that much joy until later years. Then, I deleted them and did my own thing. I reached... somewhere... but surely better than how my channel is now. Then my channel got bad again because of the Pandemic and internet issues. The monk character actually appears in the base game. His name is Tao and you find im somewhere on the map if you choose the monks with the serpent clan or the ninjas with the dragon clan.

Yolocat I have been playing battle realms for quite a while now and probably know some of or most of the purposes of the side character in the game like for instance The character like Toa that you find in the wolf clan!! you can literally find him in "Kenji's journey"
