I use Sharpies…and so long as you don’t use too dark a color, the results are as good as anything else. In this video, you just used too dark a Sharpie. They sell a pack of skin tone markers, and they have a LOT of good colors in that pack. The tip: use a color lighter than you think…as the color will be on cardboard and thus be darker than if you were using the marker on plain white paper.

Thanks, good tip! Using much lighter colour makes total sense as the sharpie ink is very saturated. I've played quite a few games with the terrain now and in all honesty I don't really notice the edges anymore on the building but the fences and walls do stand out a bit more

Thanks. I was wondering about all this.

Wow, I've been using the set for a while as I got it through the Kickstarter. This has definitely got me inspired to paint up the edges when my Speedpaint bundle arrives. Thanks for making this guide to show the before and after!

Thanks for the comment! If you use the speedpaints and it works great leave another comment about which colours work best!

Definitely worth doing the edges! In regards to the time it’ll take just think how long it’s taken us to build and paint plastic/plaster scenery!

That is true!

Looking forward to getting this set, and this is a great tip.

It's a really good set overall. I'm 50/50 on whether colouring the edges is 'necessary'. Personally I find the clips and edges aren't a big eyesore when the terrain is set up on a nice battlefield, but it does definitely look even better when the edges are coloured, so more of an upgrade than a necessity:)

For quicker and more easy way i recommend to paint the pieces before assembling them !

Thanks for the comment! 👍The key is knowing which bits you want/need to paint as when you first punch out all the pieces for a building it isn't immediately obvious which bits will benefit most from painting, but if you do know which bits to do (or you're willing to paint everything!) then it's almost certainly a better method I agree. Have you done it like that? If so, did you work out which bits to paint first or just paint all the edges on everything?

Have you tried any other contrasts for the more grey or brick surfaces in the set?

I've been trying using pens sharpies/felt tips etc, and would advise against it, I've burned through so many pens and barely made a dent in my sets. It'll cost sooo much to do everything. I'm going to move onto paint for mine

Yeh I found the paint a bit quicker as well as looking better in my opinion. Quite suprised as I assumed a good pen would be a better option so glad I tested a few options! The promarkers are better than sharpies as theyre 'wetter'

Let me know how you get on with paints, especially if there's some specific colours that work great with certain pieces. I'm also interested to know how long it's taking other people to do this as the time it takes is probably the main deal breaker as to whether it's worth it. Personally I'm finding that the 'wooden' pieces and roof edges are worth doing moreso than some of the 'stone' pieces

It would seem that painting the edges BEFORE you put it together would seem much faster. Please test for us!
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures3 жыл бұрын
It would be faster, but only if you know exactly which bits to do. On balance I don't think it would be faster as you'll end up doing bits that you might not even use (there are spares on the sprues) and definitely will do bits that make very little noticable difference once built up.
