These kinds of projects are so damn cool. Really appreciate the work of those who designed the board (and of course, the person who programmed this "new" game, Battle Zone 2...)

I recently got to play Battlezone II at the Free Play Florida convention, and I adore it! It reminds me a lot of the 1991 game Spectre. I wish I could play a ROM of it. Thank you for covering it! I had been looking for some time for any info about it.

Battlezone looks cool. I only hope that thick white horizontal line running across the screen is not gonna be in the finished game but other than that it's looking great. Must have for my Red Baron.
@anthonydandrea21703 жыл бұрын
In original BZ the horizon line, mountains, and distant 3D objects are drawn dimmer than nearby objects and the score readout. It looks like Jason's monitor is set to high brightness and low contrast, which makes all the vectors equally bright. If the brightness were lowered and the contrast increased so the pyramid of lines on the test screen showed a fade from bright at the bottom to dim at the top, you'd see lines of varying brightness during gameplay (assuming BZ2 uses gradients the way original BZ does).

Battlezone 2 is freaking awesome! I'll be ordering a board as soon as it's released for my Battlezone cabaret. Amazing work by Jason and all concerned.

This is super cool. I can imagine this game making a lot of money back in the early 80s, but I'm sure many people will love to have it in their arcades today. Keep 'em vectors coming:). One thing I would suggest is to lessen that number of horizontal lines on the ground (terrain outlines), as now the center of the screen is just a thick white line (future burn in warning) and it's difficult to see the tanks. The lanes can stay there up close, but make them disappear at some specific distance, hence clearing up the screen of what is not the most important to see in a vector game. This is probably a display remnant characteristic from the raster game code that still needs to be changed a bit. Other than that, everything looks and sounds awesome. Big thumbs up. Also, maybe it would be a good idea to implement some anti-burn in code that would shift static lines on the screen (HUD, etc.) after a while the game is on. Shifting it up and down a bit between games would not interfere with the gameplay. This could be a dip switch setting with 2 or even more settings (depending how severe the shift is). Gotta protect these old tubes:).

Q: Can an analog stick setup for RB (in front of the BZ) be compatible with the Battlezone control levers? Q: Will BZII be compatible with the BZ Green Red overlays / bezel? I presume RB would not be compatible with the overlay / bezel. I have a BZ cabaret (which I took to SFGE this year) and willing to play test. Q: Will BZII be available to load onto the Vectrex?

I like it. I have 2 Battlezone cabs, One is original and working the other is missing the PCBs and Monitor. I would love to put this into the non working cab but would need a monitor. Any chance on making one that has a HDMI output so I we could add a flat screen to those of us that dont have working monitors. They are very hard to fine

Having the terrain lines get dimmer as they are farther away would be a very good refinement for battlezone 2. Other than that, it is truly awesome. Definitely going to get it.

Jason, this is amazing! My compliments to both you and Ralph for making this (and the video of it too). Would the control sticks on a BZ cab be switchable for controlling up down, left and right movement for Red Baron, by dip switches, etc. Mike.
