I love this film so much. To date, Minority Report is still my favorite sci-fi film. I dragged my mom and grandfather to go see it mainly to see the Daredevil teaser trailer. Having stayed to watch the film, I was completely blown away how great it was. The themes of determinism vs free will and the confrontation with Leo Crow still occupy my mind.

interesting take on the ending, indeed it could all be Andertons' dream, though I personally doubt it, John loved his son above all else, as such his dream would be to find him. I even found several revisions of the script containing a scene of John dreaming about his son;

Interesting video with some interesting alternative casting. I liked this movie when I saw it and although I understood the movie plot points as they naturally presented themselves, i viewed the movie through a very sci-fi lens. On subsequent rewatches I immersed myself in the mystery elements which could thematically be translated easily to a non-sci-fi movie. I agree that CG like the cityscape feels dated, but the effects in the more mundane settings like the newspaper and cereal box still look effective. Those mundane moments remind me of Total Recall with the receptionist changing her nail colour, it's actually very immersive. Although very different subjects there are small parallels to Person of Interest which was engaging because there was mystery for the characters as well as for the viewer.

I never considered for a second that the end of the movie was all in his head because unlike in Total Recall the suggestion of it being so felt like it was just a throwaway line from Gideon, never alluded to before or after whereas in TR the whole movie was built around the unreliability of Quaid’s perception of reality.

Colin Farrell always blew me away in this movie. He's only a few years older than me. And when I first saw Minority Report, it was a year or so after graduating college. I thought he was way older (relatively speaking). Especially opposite Tom Cruise, who was around 40, and like 15 years his senior.

Always enjoy your retrospectives. This is no exception. Because of my lack of enthusiasm for Tom Cruise in only got to see this movie a few months ago. To my surprise I loved it, despite Cruise seemingly playing a character I have seen him play repeatedly. Nevertheless, I found myself drawn in, intrigued and enjoying all the action as well. Your video summed it up perfectly, especially the view of the ending. Top job. Bring on the next one!

The only issue that I, and many others have with this movie is that there is no resolution of Anderton finding out what actually happened to his son. Other than that it's great.
@robmaher42
@robmaher42 Ай бұрын
As a PKD fan, I always find this one of the poorer adaptations.of his work The origanl story is nunaced. Anderton is actually going to commit murder, but that fore-knowledge changes his actions. It's Dick using Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle (observing an event changes the outcome of the event) as a plot device. The film is quite a middling Hollywood thriller that could have been made in the 40s with little difference to the plot. It's visually stunning of course and has some great set pieces. I just find myself roling my eyes at the end of it all. I thnk it's becuase unlike Total Recall or Blade Runner, which also vary widely from the source material, the conclusions the film seem to reach are diametrically opposed to the story.

Even though Tom Cruise makes my skin crawl, this film was - and is - one of my favorite of all SciFi films. All SciFi films ever. The casting. A veritable embarrassment of riches: Colin Farrell; Samantha Morgan; Neal McDonough; Max von Sydow; Tim Blake; Arye Gross; Mike Binder; and the exquisite Lois Smith. I just bought my third Lexus, and when at the dealership in Greenwood Village I always conjure the scene from ‘Minority Report’ where my new RX500h is custom-built, on-site, instead of shipped from distant Ontario. Those wooden balls, names etched in laser-guided precision, gliding down their tracks remain a very specific, very permanent part of my movie-obsessed treasure vault.

I’ve heard it a few times now but I still don’t understand what blocking means in film/TV.
@ChocolatierRob
@ChocolatierRob Ай бұрын
It basically means where everything is positioned in relation to everything else. Good blocking helps everything flow naturally (or cinematically) from one shot to another whereas bad blocking leaves you confused over what is happening. My go to example of bad blocking is from the original live action movie of Avatar: The Last Airbender. One scene that is universally laughed at is where 6 or so Earthbenders are doing an elaborate sequence that appears to only cause one relatively small rock to slowly float into an enemy soldier. The reason that this is bad blocking is The slow moving rock was caused by a completely different person who was off camera until after we see the rock itself and the big effect that the 6 people were doing was seen before we saw them. Due to bad positioning and timing the scene looked farcical and it was near impossible to see one event correctly flowing into the next. People are hardwired to see things as cause and effect but by doing effect-cause, effect-cause watchers mentally associated the cause of the first pairing with the effect of the second pairing even though they were unrelated. Good blocking is something you are supposed to take for granted as everything should feel natural. If a character enters one room, talks to another character, picks up an object, and heads out another door you should have a good impression of the layout of the original room including the position of both doors, the other character and the original position of the picked up item, then the next shot would probably include the other side of the second door as he emerges from it to establish continuity. Throughout the scene every action should comfortably flow into the next without us having to question what is happening.

I actually lever liked the Noir-like aesthetics. It makes every shot look incredibly bland, like a cheap green screen composition, lacking any depth. Maybe they were trying to match contemporary CGI scenes in order to make the whole thing more coherent - I wouldn't know. I just couldn't bring myself watching it a second time as that style would pretty much put me off each time I truly thought about it.
