Hi, I’m very curious on getting into 3D printing, and your channel has 100% increased my interest, but im not sure about all of the things I would need to get started. Would a video guide be something you would consider making? Or play a game that doesn't feel like it's trying to burrow into your bank account like Bolt Action, Deadzone, CAV Strike Operations, Relic Blade, etc. Mantic King's of War literally doesn't care what models you use. Sludge is also pretty cool.

Honestly... You probably only need 1 square metre to have a small print setup good for minis. I have 8 printers in my study... They don't take up a lot of space! Except the Kobra Max. That... That takes up about a cubic metre by itself 😂😂😂

​@@camdavbax With that, you could also get one of those easy build sheds from hardware stores that often have similar space, plus you can wire up exhaust fans and climate controls to maintain a temperature so you have a 3D printing lab with minimal space outside the home. There's also internal enclosures using plastic wrap and ventilation tubes, best if you got a window so you don't have to. They use these for blocking off remodeling dust to the rest of the house, but it can work to contain resin hazards. Ultimately depends on budget and scope of project, like every other major task.

Honestly, GW could get ahead of the curve and start licensing their own STLs. I’m sure 3D printing has hit their bottom line. Or maybe even host some type of STL website similar to CG trader and take a small percentage of whatever STLs are sold.

Im an iron warriors horus heresy player and i used them as traitor marines in a 40k tourney and they came 2nd. All the good times will be gone forever and horus heresy may be more fun in my opinion but ive never been that close to winning. Im mentioning this because both lists had a leviathan siege with claw and drill and i cant thank you enough for making a whole episode dedicated to my beloved iron boys. Iron within, iron without!

Sorely tempted to get one of those new 9K or 12K printers that a couple of companies have out now, or even just crack on and get an 8K previous gen one. Constantly seeing STL's for models and minis that I wouldnt mind having a crack at painting and the idea I could just fire them into the slicer, support them up and could have them ready to go a few hours down the line seems like pure magic.

Be careful not to just focus on the 8k/12k on the product page, actually check what the resolution is. The new Anycubic m5s for instance is advertised as 12k and having 19micron pixels but its screen size means the pixels are rectangular and the long side is only 22micron which is the same size as the square pixels on the Phrozen mighty 8k. Do your homework.

Like already mentioned to you focus on the um resolution! That being said an 8k printer will in theory have less lines than a 4k but you can still get amazing results from 4k printers

I just packed all my Iron Warriors away for a while. Dreadclaw, Decimators, Typhon, Scorpion, Levithan, Contemptors, Deredeo, and even the quad heavy bolters weapons platforms were a big part of my gameplay. It's not that I play tournaments but all the local game stores here default to latest tournament rules/balance updates to play pickup games. I'm really not interested in picking up another army sized game, so the change impacted me quite a bit.

TLDR: New to 40k, and already sick of the B.S. I'm a smurfy boy. I love my ultramarines, I bought a couple of books, got a used army off of a friend as I could afford it. My wife got me Bobby G, my army is now like 3k points. I was so excited for the next edition, so my buddy and I wanted to start a Knights army. Couldn't find any armingers, then a buddy said "yeah u can only print those now a days" so I got a 3d printer to just print those off. Then my buddy bought a Levi dread the local shop had. NEXT FREAKING DAY, they legends that shit. So yeah... I was going to be modest and do ultramarines logos, maybe get my armingers printed off to suppliment some official knights, but u know what screw that. Just got done printing my first Knight, and its such a better sculp than GW. I'll still buy some official stuff, but my purchases are going way down now. No reason it should be this expensive to field an army, and have half your lineup out of stock.

Nice vid, and GJ getting into and doing the 3d printing thing, super cool man. But this thing I noticed. GW has moved away from what made the game so great, for me at least, and that is the fun of modeling. There used to be white dwarf articles in converted models, and when they made rules for something that did not have a model, you could make one! Selection of what to arm your models with was also wider, thus increasing what you could model. What has been done to the hobby and the game in the last 5-10 years is so off track from the spirit that "I feel" helped make the game what it is today seems to have been killed.

I found out my old Adeptus Titanicus and Space Marine stuff recently. Was the last bits for me as GW's Ork fetish back then made being a Space Marine untenable in 40k tabletop. Then they nerfed stuff which made me ask why I was buying it. I haven't walked into a GW since the 90s since.

If you are searching for a good quality but cheap resin I recommend my current mix: Elegoo Standard 2.0 Grey (pack of 10kg for 170 USD, delivery in 30 days currently) Siraya Fast Abs-like Grey (5kg for 170 USD) I mixed them 4:1 by volume and add around 20ml of black alcohol-based ink to make it darker. Buying a 10kg of resin in one go is a big investment but it returns ;)

I add the alcohol-based (that's important!) ink because I think that dark grey shows details better than light grey on an unprimed mini and I do some commission printing therefore I want them to look as good as it gets)

Of course another issue with legends is that even if the rules are super balanced and competitive now, if 11th edition isn't a complete reset, then they will likely be so ridiculously out of date by that time that they'll require jumping through a number of hoops to make them playable.

If you had a high enough quality printer, and i am sure people have copied the gw mini's into stl's, how they heck would they (event organizers and other players) know? From what i have seen, the 8k printers match and exceed anything gw is making. Is it that the printed ones dont match the pose of the official? or have some other small changes that set them apart from the retail ones so as to avoid being hung for copy right infringement? I used to play epic before it was executed by gw, as a thanks for all of the money i spent on the pewter figures and box sets. Never really got into 40k due to being into epic. But did watch from afar, usually waiting our turn at the table. So i only know of 40k and epic back when you got a metal figure, usually for around $30, when a friend ask me about it recently i looked into it again for the first time in 20 years, and found everything from gw is plastic, or resin these days, and the prices have gone up to double or many times more in some cases what they were when you had a hunk of metal to show for your money. Made me curios how the people who say no, would ever know, having never handled either printed or injection molded 40k, the only thing i could think of is weight.

Honestly dont bother with GWs rules anymore. OPR and Xenos Rampant make it possible to field almost anything. If any of you have other system suggestions, PLEASE let me know Also: it is not even about tournaments. I know many 40k gaming groups that dont even let you play legends units. Mine included.

I don’t want to burst your bubble, but firstborn marines have been on their way out for years now. With the changes to transports in 10th, making them available to primaris, you can expect firstborn to be done by the next edition. Why would GW keep the support up for kits they actively make obsolete? I‘m usually quite critical about printing 1:1 copies of existing models. When it comes to these super expensive kits tho, I have to concur. Barely anyone who decides to print such a kit would ever have shelled out the exorbitant amounts of money to FW. I own several FW models, they are some of my most beloved pieces, and I painted every Tyranid biotitan that a friend of mine bought. Together we probably spent a 5 digit sum at FW. But even before all this legends bs, these were nothing but display pieces. If they don’t see the table, I‘m not paying 3 figures for minis anymore. I‘m off building a harridan now, I don’t quite remember where that came from 😊

For those who say that 3d printing is why GW charge so much and continue to increase prices are, I hope, unfortunately unaware that piracy (3d printing in this case) is actually a very good indicator of how close to market value something is or isn’t.priced. If something is reasonably priced there is very little interest in knock offs and very little incentive for people to invest in making them. GW drives the third party market and it’s continued existence. Furthermore it gives GW another (entirely fictional) reason for price increases and a target of misdirection for anger directed at GW. Sigh.

not gonna lie. at this rate the 40kcommunity can far easier support the game they love much better than games workshop. The model quality has exceeded theirs. printers have exceeded their injection moulding quality. prices are simply unbeatable when it comes to 3d printing. the customization levels are unprecedented when you cnn just pull up the model on your computer. rules and codexes. hundreds of people more than happy to make open source ones. Aside from the wales keeping GW afloat im a bit surprised that theyre still even remotely relevant in their very own games in these days. expecially with the horrendous choices they've made

We need to take back the hobby. GW has abused copyright and gone after the marrow of the hobby. Ultimately it shrunk our community and turned of a whole new generation of kids from getting into it. It shouldn't be controversial to print models and play them. GW should recognize that the players need spaces to play and interact with other players. We should have a crop of entrepreuners that are willing to create this but Copyright law prevents them from competing. Copyright law needs an overhaul
