I think they did a mistake with the weapons. The medic is supposed to heal and revive squad mates as you said so he's gonna engage in close quarters. Why not give them SMG's and give the assault class the semi auto rifles ?

I was really hoping for bolt action battles as the highlight. Now we get pretty much a WW2 game, set in WW1. Edit: I am not saying I want realism or a sim, just the choice to use a bolt action rifle as maybe a medic or even assault. In a game set in a war primarily fought with bolt action weapons is that too much. Hahah Does that really make the game not fun?

There were semi-automatic and full-automatic weapons in World War I, they just were not that common, but DICE added them to game, too, because they did the same with every single Battlefield game. For example, not all of US soldiers use full-automatic weapons like M16A3 or M416, most of them use M16A4, the one which has two modes; Burst-fire and semi-automatic (Full-automatic mode is not that useful in real-life, it is hard to control and wastes ammo really fast.), but, they added them to game, too, but not a single one of you complained about that, not a single one of Battlefield games were realistic about weapons and equipments, and, if they were, you all would complain about why there are really few of weapons in Battlefield games.

I know. I feel like they shouldn't have released SO MUCH footage. Give us info, but don't let us see so much gameplay! :D But everyone whined the past two years about "gameplay, gameplay, gameplay".....but that's mostly because they misrepresented quite a bit the last two years. You want authentic WW1 game-play? okay, everyone stays in a fucking trench for thirty two hours each match, occasionally returning fire at the enemy team, the rest of the time you get to dig more trenches and try not to get trench foot. If you exit the trench A.I. machine gunners kill you and you're eliminated for the duration of the match. At the end of the match, no one wins because war is hell.

Trench warfare was a very small part of WW1. That's like saying an authentic WW2 game would have you sitting in a concentration camp the entire time.

TomandJackTV1 It was a large part of the Western Front. I never denied that. But then there is the Eastern Front, Southern, and Naval war. It was called a WORLD War and not "European Trench War" for a reason. In the grand scheme of the war, the Trench warfare of the Western Front wasn't as big of a part of the war as some people make it out to be(in the sense that many people, such as the OP, believe it was the ONLY part of the war). That's the misconception that led people to believe a WW1 game would be incredibly boring. But there is SO much more to WW1 than just Trench Warfare. If that's all you want, go play Verdun. Again, saying it was all trench warfare would be like saying WW2 was only Concentration Camps or nuclear bombs in Japan. It's one aspect of a massive war.

Glad to see they are finally going back to some older mechanics. Revive being on an ammo system, giant flying warship that can be controlled by players and have a massive impact on the game, heavy guns having more accuracy the longer you shoot, etc Reminds me of BF2142, which makes me very very happy to see

Well, the scary part is that now medics can "steal" enemy damaged tanks from the battlefield, repair them and basically drive them around. So what lvlcap (or was it jackfrags?) said about that enemies can't steal and repair enemy tanks, unless they have driver class, is wrong now :/.

Some rifles have a longer sweet spot range, sweet spot means 1 shot kill. If the sweet shot was for long distances, then it'd be a 1 shot kill at long range

Most Recons in any previous games never really uses spotting. They figure they want to get the kill themselves or shoot before even having spotting go through their minds.... even tho they are in perfect position to inform and cover their team. :(

I think it would be a good idea to implement the rifle fired grenade as a grenade you have in your regular grenade slot like frags incendiary or gas but unique to medic or scout only since they are the only classes with the long rifles that would fire it as shown in the photo.

So is the reviving system going to be the same bullshit as it was in BF3/BF4? Instant 100%, simple as hell to do compared to how much you are rewarded for doing it? Hardline atleast did some good changes to it. Like not being able to be revived if you got killed by an explosive/headshot/melee takedown. Also if you were already revived once and then die, you cannot be revived so you have to wait for spawn. I personally hate the reviving system in general (someone kills you, you should stay dead) but if it has to stay in the game, atleast do some real changes to it so one guy cannot just bring 10 guys back from the dead in a blink of an eye.

BF4 has implemented a lot from Hardline. Certain things prevent revives and you have to hold the shock paddles for a full charge. You may be surprised, like I was, at how much BF4 has evolved since release.

Medics are also going to have vehicle repair gadgets. It is stated on the battlefield website. Whether they get the hammer /wrench or not or if they will be allowed to repair inside of vehicles like the vehicle class is up in the air right now.

I'm glad they are changing this. When I started BF4 the Recon and Engineer classes fit their role as expected with gadgets that made sense. When I first used Assault, I thought the class was mostly grenades and other generic gear, plus minor healing. Turns out that the Assault class had the best reliable guns at any range, insane healing power, and numerous useful gadgets. The Support proved to basically be a shitshow of randomness that was really situational. Having more ammo is fine, but I can only go on massive streaks on Engineer or Assault, so it doesn't matter

So good you're posting medic guides. You should watch these guides more as you NEVER seem to revive players. Playing competitive is not only being the player with most kills or points, its reviving teammates also :)

The reason the sights are offset is because most, if not all, of the military rifles at the time had an internal magazine which you load using stripper clips from the top. Having the scope mounted on top would block the internal magazine.

Best way to balance medic and limit reviving, is to probably give the revive its own animation where he is fixing the wounds, while animation is taking place, you may be shot in the process, making it so you can only revive when it's safe to. Animation similar to entering a vehicle.

I believe the reason why optics are offset to the sides of the weapons they are mounted on is so that the weapons can still be fed with stripper clips, not so the iron sights are still easy to use...

Seems like assault is going to be an OP class which everyone uses. Really hope that thats not the case that everyone just plays assault. Only class with good automatic weapons and gadgets to take out a tanks,sounds pretty OP to me

I really like the direction Dice is going with the latest installment. I think it's also a good idea to make it a limited amount of people back to life. I think 3 is a good limit with getting more from ammo packs a nice variety. Then have maybe like 3-5 medpacks. And then there could be a way to get more through squad-based gameplay like either the upgrade system in BF3 or 4. =D

It'd be cool if they had a game mode that is conquest, but along with capturing points to bleed tickets you also have to capture a couple other buildings or points that are considered to be "restock" areas. Like if you control the medic point, you have unlimited syringes with no cooldown in them. And if you don't have the medic point, you only get the syringes you spawn with. Same with ammo and grenade points.

The classes look much more like in hardline than bf4 (in a good way). Think about it - hardline's mechanic got pretty much renamed into assault (smgs, anti-vehicle), hardline's assault is now the medic (but automatic rifles replaced with semi-auto), the enforcer is now the support class but without the shotguns and recon is the scout with more emphasis on spotting. All in all ok changes if you ask me, happy to see that they took some lessons from hardline.

fyi the type of prototype irons you were talking about are actually onenof the first style of ranges optic. . the optic can be adjusted up and down depending on the range and was very popular on western style Winchester rifles

Looks like fun. I get bored with standard FPS games mainly cause they revolve on just shooting enemies running around and that gets boring pretty quickly but if there is a medic role and they can only do the healing and rezzing then thats a nice feature. that would keep me entertained more.

Hopefully if the syringe has to be limited, it'll be based on a cooldown, not actually 'ammo'. I would dislike that a lot. Or just have the syringe have a charge up time. So when you pull it up, the guy/gal starts to fill the syringe (maybe 1-2 seconds) before it's full, before they can revive someone. And then those 2 seconds have to pass again for the next revive

Never played BC2 I must say, but in BF4 as Levelcap mentioned, while you could charge up your defib, that created a problem of people just snatching the revive from under your nose (as you didn't have to charge up), giving the person they revive only 20 health instead of the 'charged up' 100 health. But if what you mentioned here makes it so you have to wait, it's largely just what I stated myself, I figure. Or maybe I am not fully understanding. You pull the syringe gadget out, he has to 'suck up' the liquid inside, and once the syringe is full he can revive someone. And after that revive, he'll make the syringe suck up the liquid again, before it's ready. So people can only come back at 100 health. I think people dislike the idea of being revived, stand there in the open with 20 health and then die the same second and have to wait to respond again. The problem with the grenade launcher idea for the medic class is the attachment you had to put on your gun. The attachment was only made for certain bolt action rifles like the no.5 and the mosin had it in WW1. Since most of the medic's guns didn't make it out of the proto type stage, they didn't really design a rifle gernade for those guns. So you might just see the rifle grenades in the sniper class. But this is a game and it totally doesn't have to be based on reality

I think there were no combat medics in WWI, but there were stretcher bearers that carried the wounded soldiers to aid posts based in reserve trenches.

I hope you can still revive a lot of soldiers, thats how i leveled up so quickly in BF4. Turn on a 100% or 200% booster, play Locker or Metro and just revive a lot while getting kills.

Some rifles have scopes on the sides instead of on top because otherwise the stripper clips with ammo wouldn't fit in.

those 'weird iron sights' are traditional iron sights... they have been used since matchlock muskets and they are used to change the range on your gun. every rifle has them but older rifles had the more simplistic sights seem in this video

Hopefully these rifles will feel better than the DMRs in BF4. I use them a bit but the ridiculous velocity and terrible hit detection make them awful sometimes. If these rifles feel more like your typical M1 Garand from a WWII game then that'll be alright. The M14 and the M1 Garand were some of my favorite weapons in Bad Company 2 so hopefully the improved bullet physics and velocity in BF1 will make me feel at home again. They have to be good or there won't be enough medics on the team.

Those iron sights weren't new, they're aperture style sights that were used on the Henry 1860 and many early lever action and bolt action rifles

Not changing my same loadout. its basically dmrs on an medic and the pistol will help in close quarters. that is the beauty of recon/medic. you can choose your battles better on the battlefield. you have long range and spotting as a recon. then you have medic to heal yourself as you run away from bad positioning.

Very not likely but would be pretty awesome, what if dice did a dlc like they did with Bad Company 2: Vietnam, but did a civil war era? They could carry over the syringe and the horses and possibly other things from the vanilla game. I doubt this will ever happen tho, just an idea

irl those 1907s we're pretty nice rifles they we're marketed towards hunters only bad thing about them was the cartridge they we're offered in( the only cartridge they we're chambered for ) was a little under powered for a rifle about like a 357 magnum from a lever action rifle not optimal for deer but usable

Seems like each class has a very good role, smg/shotgun class rushes the enemy, support fire with light machine guns, medic adding accurate support fire and reviving, then sniper spotting targets and counter sniping enemy team. No class does the same thing

if you look on early tanks especially the British ones the smoke grenade launchers on the side of the turret are cut down bolt action rifles useing blanks to lob smoke and frag grenades at infantry from the safety of inside the tank. something like that considering the rifles for medic are lower caliber than most of the bolt action ones
