@bobsnow62425 жыл бұрын
It's hard to compare the two. Watching The Room is a generally enjoyable experience because of how utterly absurd and amateurish it is, and because of its wealth of quotable lines and scenes. The Room is the gold standard of "so bad it's good" movies and remains humorous even after repeated viewings. With the exception of this scene and maybe one or two others, the same can't be said for Battlefield Earth. There is little to nothing redeeming about this film, even in a campy or unintentionally funny context. Watching this from start to finish is a painful waste of time. People still gather in droves for midnight screenings of The Room for good reason. There's something charming and affectionate about Tommy Wiseau's glorious disaster, which is why it still has a massive cult following. No one in their right mind would waste their time dressing up like Terl and coming out to a midnight screening of Battlefield Earth.

First rate performances, beautiful cinematography, innovative camera angles and perfectly paced editing. Much more engrossing than far more inferior films such as the godfather, citizen kane, schindlers list and 2001: a space odyssey. I may be in minority here but taken alone, this scene is reasonably well done from the viewpoint of Terl being "sanity challenged", he imagines the "endless options for renewal", the slant gives a bit of vibe of how unsettled his mind is, the overacting gives more of a bipolar guy who sort of knows he isn't all right in head, "I don't know if I could have kept my sanity"... The slant effect could actually be effective trick if only used for small bits for effect rather than entire film.

Not only did they fail to straighten the tripod, but they failed to completely fit even ONE character into a WIDESCREEN frame.

I'm still waiting for a sequel lol but it has to be same cast, same director, same approach, if I won millions and millions of dollars I'd finance it myself

I get that this scene is great for many reasons. But...how is no one talking about how you can literally hear the set creaking when the characters walk in at 0:21? It's incredible.

Well there really is a floor underneath them so it's no surprise it makes noise when the actors walk on it 🤦 You must be a scientologist to like this horrible movie. Edit : scientologist not scientist.

@@iuhsdihdslifuvholuidfh lol wut, they're walking on things that make noise. The set is not creaking.

@@JohnCrichton I'm sure they added the sound effects after like they usually do in movies but it sounded like the wooden set they were walking on.

It's called a Dutch Angle meant to make people feel uneasy and discomforted by what is going on screen. When done correctly it is a great thing that people do not notice on first viewing until pointed out. However doing an entire film at a Dutch Angle is not something you want to do.

The best part is how hard Jon Travolta is trying not to smile at the end of this scene.

Being trapped in his current assignment on Earth for eternity might be upsetting to Travolta but imagine being trapped in this movie for eternity.
