I like how the interviewer at 19:00 is quite informed about the band's musical style and makes relevant commentaries about their technique. Most interviewers go straight into the band's personal issues and/or general questions. Really nice interview.

Anyone know what those keyboard stands are ( or a US equivalent ) ?
@MM-um7pt9 жыл бұрын
+Alan David I think they're just standard two-tier keyboard stands that have been radically tilted.
@literatetree83946 жыл бұрын
They are actually addons for synthesizers on a second "floor" but Ian just cranks his regular keyboard stands way down, and puts the second story things on top, and tilts them backwards. I think he is a tall guy, so this might not work for everyone

+dfisk79 totally agree, this isn't very good
@thenewyorkpauls8 жыл бұрын
+dfisk79 "dicking around with gear and creating loops" is the entire point of Battles. They actually create less of it onstage now than they used to.
@dfisk798 жыл бұрын
+thenewyorkpauls Ok. I guess if that's the point, but man...literally anybody can do this. My little kids actually do this with my equipment at home. This takes very little to no skill at all. Why anyone would pay to see this is beyond me, but hey, if they can make a living at it, then I guess anything is possible.
@thenewyorkpauls8 жыл бұрын
dfisk79 The whole "my kids could do this" thing is so played out though. It was said about jazz by classical guys, rock 'n' roll by jazz guys, rap music by rock guys, about grunge/alt-rock by buttrockers/metalheads, and tons of other people say it about the EDM DJ/laptop/MIDI type acts all day now. "Oh, he's just pressing buttons! I could do that!" The thing is, kids could perhaps learn songs well enough to trigger them on MIDI pads in the proper predetermined sequence, but they probably couldn't and/or wouldn't program these loops and compose/arrange these songs in the first place which is really all that matters. I sincerely doubt your kids can play the drums like that (period, never mind with metronome-like rigidity along to a loop) or loop unquantized guitar/bass sounds this well either. I truly mean no disrespect in saying that, it just doesn't sound feasible to me... maybe if you meant "eventually, if time is no object", like that thing about monkeys with typewriters reproducing Shakespeare (not that I'm comparing Battles to Shakespeare; they're way more fun).
