Thank you for your hard work and sacrifice Sir! I was just on board last month and it's great to have first hand knowledge of what I saw.

Anthony, thank you for the support. We tried an app but this seems to be working much better. It is a slow process to get it right though. We are working on provision issue and sick bay now but we are waiting for cooler weather. Thanks again!!

Inviting over the New Jersey crew paid off! They got me to follow the link over here. I was a fool to think one battleship's worth of KZbin content would be enough.

Each ship was similar yet very unique. I love learning from other ships. We complement each other rather than compete.

Sweet mercy, every episode gets better and better. I always overlooked the soda shop. Could we have a go at the Chief's mess or chain locker next? I know they're not in a restored state and possibly repurposed....

Thanks for the kind words. It takes a lot of research and planning to get to the point of recording. It is quite motivational to hear people enjoy and appreciate the effort. Kim Sincox is the mastermind behind this project. She is concentrating on everyday life in this segment. It primarily deals with provisioning (food) and recreation. I am involved in a couple more sections because of the research and restoration work I have done in the areas in the past and then i will be taking a break so other folks can share their accomplishments and knowledge. Provisions Distribution is one of them and I think the reefers will be presented. We talked about them today. There are a few more areas to cover before moving on to the next segment. Have no idea what it will be at this point. I will pass on you requests. Chief's galley and mess are used as ship archives. It is all shelving with books and artifacts. Cecil

So first off thank you for your fantastic work. I have never been to the North Carolina but I live in south Alabama and visit the Alabama often. The ice cream and soda fountain has always been an interest of mine. This might be a dumb question but it appears your setup could be real work functional. Do you guys actually serve out of the fountain? Do the soda compressor and ice cream machines work? Thanks!

Thanks Robert. This was the second one we did. The first was vegetable prep. Still learning. Working on sick bay and provision issue now.

The only other soda fountain I've seen is the one on USS Texas. On the other hand my grandmother had a malt machine like that one but with a green base she used to make all us grandkids chocolate malts with until she passed a few years back. She had a few of the mixing cups like shown in the video

The green base was probably a Hamilton Beach. The one in the video works perfectly. The Texas is a beautiful ship. I hope they are able to get her ready to reopen sooner rather than later!

So what would the money be used from the Soda Fountain?
@gregoryard858
@gregoryard858 3 жыл бұрын
It went to the sailors fund that was controlled by the ship chaplain. It could be used for ship functions or to help sailors who needed a little assistance. In 1942 they sent a check to Macy's in NYC and bought Christmas gifts for the crew's children.
