if we are alone in the universe then why are we alone and what makes us so special and separate from any other possible races that could have been. is there some filter that when a race reaches a certain stage of development that causes them to die out, the theory of entropy for example. what if the reason we are alive as a race is because we passed a filter of existence. then if we are the only living organisms in the universe then why, what makes us so special. but anyway if we don't kill ourselves then entropy will.

I have to say, this was remarkable in the fact that you really brought the Borg back to its routes. A faceless, relentless, unstoppable enemy. Something I think Voyager watered down. I was about 5-6 when I first watched Best of Both Worlds. Would have been earlier but we only had BBC 2 to rely upon. No Sky 1 prime viewing. I digress. The Borg scared the hell out of me at that age! Loving the HP Lovecraft/HG Wells background. Needless to say, after watching this, I feel that unease with the Borg once again. You sir are a genius!
@pwnmeisterage
@pwnmeisterage 2 жыл бұрын
The Borg Queen watered them down. She was necessary for the movie - they needed a villain with a "human" face. But her presence turned Borg from a decentralized, mechanistic, ruthlessly inhuman collective of powerfully intelligent automatons into a vulnerable and dependant collection of mindless parts. She could be proud, arrogant, greedy, territorial, envious, angry, hateful, sated, sublime - she had a psychology which could be predicted and which could be manipulated - and all her drones would malfunction or crash when their link to this one critical center was interrupted.

The Feds are lucky the Borg are more like a cybernetic fungus, and less like self replicating Von Neumann nodes. The Borg are limited by the need to breed or assimilate living beings as their primary substrate. Of course, if they were completely A.I. they likely wouldn't notice Starfleet at all. Fascinating usage of a tone from both War of the Worlds and the works of H.P. Lovecraft. It presents the Borg in a eldritch form, one of pure and utter dread. One that is cold, calculated, and uncaring. As if one's very soul is being clenched by an invisible hand, indifferent to whether or not one can still breath. Makes the battle itself and the video all the more interesting and enjoyable to watch.

This is why talk of the weakness of the Golden Age has never sat right with me. The only people who could defeat the borg was the Federation after being crushed by the Borg. The Borg are such an outside context incident that the biggest war hawks in the alpha and beta quadrants fielding the best of what to that date existed would still be crushed. What a very chilling end of innocence. Much more worse than the attack of Pearl Harbor. Though the call to arms to battle this cube invader ended in victory the very heavy price paid made the sting unforgettable. As much of a disaster Worf 359 was for Starfleet, it was this defeat that ultimately saved the Federation. Decades of peace had their fleet readiness being sorely lacking, and this massacre was the swift kick in the ass the Federation needed to get their stuff together. They immediately began a series of newer, more powerful ships that were almost exclusively built for war. So by the time the Dominion invaded the Alpha Quadrant, StarFleet had the kind of ships they needed to combat this foe.

Speaking of hubris... The Borg must have picked it up from Starfleet, specifically - from Picard himself. As Admiral Clancy put it: *"sheer fu-ing hubris!"* Lol.

This was a great video as all of the videos on the Venom Geek channel. For those who view Wolf 359 as Captain Picard's fault, they are sadly mistaken. It is clear that the Borg would have won even without benefiting from Picard's captured knowledge. Their technology was just on a different level.

I almost consider this the death bell to the Federations 120 years of pure exploration with phasers and torpedos purely designed for peace keeping. Voyager even had significant fire power boost for a ship of its type and class.

Absolutely awesome production. You filled in so many details about the battle that I speculated on but now understand. Makes me wonder what would have happened if Riker had called for help from Cue? Certainly there are some telepathic and almost Incomprehensible beings that could defeat the Borg I haven’t seen any technological ones that could accomplish it!

@@sephservant Not really shelved. My theory is that they were ALL there. All of the ships of those new classes....blown up at Wolf 359. That's why we NEVER see them again. imagine Starfleet Engineering freaking out that their new ships were wrecked, and the virtual hard on they got when they were told to design ships that could withstand that. LOL

Wow awesome video! I never thought the Borg would use so many clever tactics. I always just saw them as a big battering ram and they’d just pick off attacking ships like a dog scratching at a flea. You’re right about Starfleet’s crappy attack plan, sending waves of ships in. That’s why I’m glad they adopted the swarm formation at the Battle of Sector 001. They still took heavy losses, but were at least making headway in damaging the Cube and were still fighting hours later, not just a laughable 10 minutes. Wasn’t the Oberth-class USS Bonestell at Wolf 359? Its usually said to be the ship we see explode outside of the room where Jennifer Sisko died in “Emissary”.

Other records say that USS Liberator was in fact a New Orleans class, and USS Buhran a Centaur class, neither of which any trace of them was found at all. I had my own story ideas of what happened to them, which began with a torpedo-caused rift somewhat similar to Yesterday's Enterprise, but more cutting across distance than time. Maybe someone will be interested, and I should write it up?

The best thing about this is that narration and word usage like damn man lOL...but also you gave dates date can be matched to what else was going on in the trek universe while all this was unfolding. For some odd reason i thought the battle of wolf 359 took place around December.

Yeah except the survivor was the USS Endeavour, which was Nebula class. Janeway quotes the Captain in The Scorpion Part 1, and as Voyager disappeared between Wolf 359 and 001, the only possibility for the Captain to be quoted on the Borg was for his ship to have escaped 359, as the Endeavour would also face the Borg at 001, but obviously by then, Voyager was out of contact...
