Just like with one of my previous videos, if the Colonial fleet at Scorpia had found out about the CNP and had a few minutes of alert time before the Cylons arrived. On this I forgot to bring the Vipers out.

Funny enough it was mentioned in the show by the Cylons that even with the CNP comprimised they weren't expecting such a clean sweep. They also acknowledged that the Colonial fleet was superior to their own.

Never made sense though. They cleaned up the Colonial fleet in hours, Had enough Base Ships to nuke every colony and attack every ship yard. But still only ever at 1 moment was there no more than 3 Base Stars against Galactica. It should've been game over when Galactica and the civilian fleet were at Ragnar Anchorage, The Cylons knew they were there hours before but still only sent a token force.

@@mgDuckyyy As stated by Cavil in "The Plan" they had their foot on the neck of humanity but didn't press down hard enough. What I interpeteted that to mean is they thought the Civilian Fleet and Galactica would just eventually run out of resources and starve before finding a place to settle, so they didn't pursue them as vigorously as they should have.

gotta love the replay aspect from this game however I still think the colonies would have been screwed thanks to the cylon's ability to disable the fleet. Galatica was the exception because they weren't running a computer network. I can't recall what had happened with the Peagus but I believe it also had something to do with the system not being up and running in time for the ambush but either way, still a fun what if scenario.

From the actual storyline of the series, I wonder if, among the human-form Cylons, there was a single tactician among them. One way around this is from a non-canon source (comics), which had the creation of the mind of each human-form Cylon as an amalgamation of a Centurion consciousness with a pre-set template for each model. The Centurions showed themselves to be extremely clever tacticians. Especially the 0005s.

I think this just shows the major flaws of the Modern Basestars. They were designed to be carriers and weapons platforms for nuclear munitions, so they're at a major disadvantage in a straight out capital ship brawl with the Colonials (as we saw during the Resurrection Ship battle).
@Cailus3542
@Cailus3542 2 жыл бұрын
Well, you're right. The basestars aren't real warships, and were never intended as such. The Cylons were machines, and they thought like machines: singular purpose. They could never match the industrial power of the Twelve Colonies in a conventional war, so they threw all their eggs into a nuclear basket with no fleet diversity whatsoever, no contingencies. It's a safe bet that if the CNP infilltration had failed but the Cylons still attacked, the initial assault would have been reasonably successful with enormous civilian and military casualties. The Colonial Fleet counterattack (which did actually happen in the show) would, however, have smashed the Cylons in very short order. The humans would have certainly won the war in the long run. Hell, just two undercrewed battlestars won the war eventually anyway. The cost, though, would've been enormous.
@Mobius_118
@Mobius_118 2 жыл бұрын
@mandellorian You mean, the machines that also have the classic weakness known as a religion? The ones who entered a stalemate with the Colonials prior to them signing the armistice at the end of the first war? The same ones that developed a Basestar that was completely ineffective against a Colonial Battlestar without its fighter complement? Who consistently failed to destroy a single Battlestar over the course of four years, so much so that their target eventually died of old age? The ones that are part organic, to the point where someone can actually "lobotomize" them? The ones that decided to build human versions of themselves? Those machines?
@protorhinocerator142

But also, in a world where the enemy can jump in out of nowhere in seconds, you can't ever afford to have the battlestars offline, or being retrofitted, or anything. There would be a whole crazy logistics process for retrofitting a battlestar. You'd have to keep it as-is, then redo the core of the ship, and then maybe really fast (in a week or so) take all the armor off the old ship and tack it onto the new core. And do one at a time like that. It wouldn't ever make sense to have 20-30 battlestars just loitering around unmanned, shut down, or under repair. The whole conops needs to be changed to reflect those realities. The initial attack was extremely stupid on the part of the Colonies. Just like the existence of the Holdo Maneuver would rewrite all the tactics for Star Wars. Why didn't someone just do that to the Death Star? No capital ships are safe if you can Holdo them.

@@protorhinocerator142 Given how prolific the Valkyrie class Battlestars were, it's highly unlikely that the ships that were undergoing maintenance and upgrades affected the Colonials' combat capabilities to the point that the Cylons would find a high value target underdefended.

I don't think a few minutes would have mattered. A shipyard is used to build and service ships. Therefore, all ships under construction would not be combat-ready, and ships undergoing overhaul or refit would have a lot of systems offline.
@Mobius_118
@Mobius_118 2 жыл бұрын
It would've given them time to deploy the massive amount of Vipers and Raptors we see getting destroyed in the opening salvo. And given that it's a shipyard, it's highly likely there'd be a few fully operational Battlestars guarding it. And it's not unreasonable to believe that they'd jump in reinforcements.

Honestly the Second War era Cylons were a shadow compared to the ones during the first Cylon War. Their ship classes were so flexible that different tactics needed to be used against them. In the second Cylon war it's like they just stopped trying or at least thought that their basestar spam and nukes were enough. In a way that was true considering how it turned out. But imagine if Baltar wasn't so horny that he became a simp. Cylons would've gotten stomped hard.

It would have made no difference, the code was still on the ships computers, all the cylons had to do is activate the code and they would be dead, the only ones escaping would be ships were the upgrade wasn't active yet, they would have done damage, but I don't think it would have been enough. Whit the upgrade removed, well they would have had much better chances, but due to the networking systems, the cylons would have been able to cripple several ships, Good plan to have colonial ships in pairs, very good as well for the cylons to do does short jumps, very good tactics

Interesting theory and one I agree is certainly feasible as if the virus in cnp is discovered by some checking and peer review of the program in one single Battlestar, before it goes fleet wide. Suspect that even allowing for surprise the might of the colonial fleet and its planetary defensive systems defending the worlds of the 12 colonies would have defeated the cylon attack abet with some losses to the fleet. As colonial fleet outnumbers the cylon fleet any day of the week in numbers and strength.

It was “peer” reviewed. Unfortunately the skin jobs were the “peers” that reviewed it. Besides the weakness wouldn’t have been known or even been able to have been known prior to the assault. Of all the faults I have with the series, especially seasons 3.5 till the end, the shut down code wasn’t one of them, I mean outside of the fact that the colonies’ main enemy was a species of learning computers that any idiot should’ve been able to assume the worst case scenario of the cylons learning to put shut down codes in other computers. As for the numbers game attrition is every militaries worst enemy, but you’d think mass production of centurions and activation of all the skin jobs possible would tip the balance of power into the Cylons favor. We can talk all day day and night about the woulda, coulda, shoulda’s of this universe and I’ll grant you the thought of humans were around longer and should possibly be more numerous then the various cylons but, again that only goes to the point of the first decade maybe after that production should be easy for mass production, or just for all that and ftl jump in a bunch of asteroids or nuke strapped raiders into each the colonies and shipyards. Just my two cents I could be wrong.

@@tarn1135 Thanks for the reply. Hmm, that does indeed, make a whole lot of sense, but as you say given they are facing an enemy, who has always been able to hack into and dominate their computer systems at will. They should have always haver stuck to decentralised limited computer systems like you see on galactic instead of effectively leaving the back store open by putting in massive complex computer system that has plenty of backdoors to be hacked through. On the numbers side of things, given we never see any real sign of cylon infrastructure apart from hub and colony, cannot know for sure who had the more numerically superior military forces at their disposal., even allowing for mechation advantage of the cylons as seems to be that old first war cylon models and ships are retired and reused to build newer models over time as we never see them used again after original war.
