As the opening notes of Bear McCreary's *Battlestar Galactica* concert from 2014 pour through the speakers, you’re immediately transported to a universe alive with raw emotion and relentless energy. It's hard to believe this masterpiece is now 11 years old. Every beat feels timeless, resonating as powerfully in 2025 as it did back when it first swept through symphony halls and into the hearts of sci-fi fans everywhere. The driving taiko drums, ethereal strings, and haunting vocals capture that perfect blend of human vulnerability and cosmic grandeur. It’s not just music-it’s a sonic journey through the essence of struggle, survival, and hope. Listening now, it feels like a spark, igniting the spirit for the year ahead. The fierce determination in tracks like "Prelude to War" is a rallying cry to tackle challenges head-on, while the somber beauty of "Roslin and Adama" reminds us of the quiet strength in connection and compassion. What better way to kickstart 2025 than with music that reminds us to embrace the epic in our everyday lives? To find rhythm in chaos, beauty in uncertainty, and a touch of the stars in all we do. Eleven years on, and *Battlestar Galactica’s* concert soundtrack still dares us to strive for something greater. So here’s to a year as bold and dynamic as McCreary’s iconic score. So say we all! 🚀✨

I went to this concert and it was absolutely spectacular! I splurged and got seats in the upper VIP area in the front row. I fully expected cast members to show up, and was not disappointed, but Eddie Olmos brought the house down. The Admiral led us in a chant of "So Say We All" and we got some cool info on "The Plan", which he directed. Of course, that led into "Apocalypse", which was incredible. But my favorite part was Katee Sackhoff coming out to play "Kara Remembers". She hadn't gotten to do any rehearsal, it was just a last minute thing. She hadn't done it since they filmed that episode, so it was very much like watching her in the episode. She had to relearn it on the fly! Afterward, we got to meet some of the cast. Michael Hogan (Col. Tigh) is a sweet, funny guy. Picked up some merch and got to meet the whole BSG Orchestra and talk to Bear. Left with a signed poster and the early release of the Season 4 Soundtrack signed by everyone. It was an absolute dream. So glad there are videos!

@@alchemist889 which is fitting, since the original Homeworld in 1999 was heavily inspired by the 1978 BSG. I wouldn’t be surprised if 2004 BSG’s OST was inspired by Homeworld. In a nice little nod to Homeworld, in Razors, the spin off sidequel which shows Admiral Cains command before they reunited with Galactica, has Camble Lane - the voice over guy and voice of the Bentusi - playing the first cylon hybrid - it even had the same Bentusi-esque reverb and distortion in his voice. One guy who directed the second 5 year series had an interesting story for UCLA's school of filmmaking. He was asked soon after 9-11 if he would like to try to recommission the series so he decided to take a look at the pilot (yes it is the free sample introduction given to the networks to see if anyone is willing to buy it) and he got the worst sense of horror thinking it was a 9/11 type environment of destruction and devastation of a human race. That got him hooked.

I weighed their statements against those of the guards and I took into consideration their service records and commendations. It was a difficult decision, Commander, but I daresay it was a fair one. Adama: They have the right to have their case heard by a jury. Cain: I am a flag officer on detached service during a time of war. Regulations give me broad authority in this matter. Adama: [to Tigh] Launch the fighters. [to Cain] You can quote me whatever regulation you'd like. I'm not going to let you execute my men. Cain: I highly suggest you reconsider that statement, Commander. Colonel Jack Fisk: Admiral, Galactica is launching Vipers and a Raptor. Cain: Commander, why are you launching Vipers? Adama: Please arrange for Chief Tyrol and Lieutenant Agathon to be handed over to my Marines as soon as they arrive. Cain: I don't take orders from you! Adama: Call it whatever you like, I'm getting my men. Cain: You are making such a mistake. Adama: I'm getting my men. Cain: Action stations. Fisk: Admiral, this will spiral out of control fast. Cain: Launch the alert Vipers. Adama has taken us over the line. He's left me with no choice but to launch the alert Vipers. Target the main battery for Galactica. And may the Gods have mercy on their souls.

The opening theme song is the Gayatri Mantra. A Hindu mantra in Sanskrit. After looking it up I found that there are a few different translations, such is the nature of Sanskrit. "OM bhûr bhuvah svah tat savitur varçnyam bhargô dçvasya dhîmahi dhiyô yô nah pracôdayât", Meaning "Oh, triple expanding Universe, that worthiest source (of Dharma), offering an insight into the shiniest truth, that drives us to ultimate Enlightenment!" Having a somewhat cursory understanding I now get goosebumps over my entire body every time I hear it. Maybe because I’ve recently started meditating. But whatever. I appreciate it that much more. Throughout the series you’ll find other lyrics in Gaelic and Latin. Bear said in an interview that they decided to use the Gayatri Mantra because Edward James Olmos would play it in set to bring focus to the actors. Pretty cool!

Esse maestro é dmais. Se for ele msm como vi boatos q vai fazer parte da trilha da série O senhor dos anéis junto c o "Shore" vai ser demais. Essa influência da música árabe/oriental é diferencial dele

BSG music gives me such vibes, and reminds me of a Soundtrack from another Space Opera some of you may have heard of… Homeworld, and Homeworld 2. Long may The Exiles live Free.

I wish I wasn't still swimming after the BSG boat after it had set sail. I'll probably never get to see a show like this live.

Late to the video but the flute player, especially @22:27 deserves as much respect as the rest. Delivering that iconic theme on such a flawless performance; Hats off.
