Battlestar Galactica Deadlock: What if the Atlantia didn't die?

Today I had a look at what could have played out in the skies of the Twelve Colonies had the Battlestar Atlantia not been destroyed. Although not much is known about this engagement, the ship is reported lost after an engagement with the Cylon fleet during the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, along with the Battlestars Triton, Solaria, and Columbia.

If you go into the deleted scenes of razor there is a scene where Admiral and Fisk actually talk about the battlestar Atlantia and intercepting colonial transmissions diring the fall of the colonies. She went down taking down 2 cylon basestars based on an intercepted transmission before Atlantia was overwhelmed by the Cylons

Yep. However in the case of the Pegasus it leaves a number of vital systems down, including fire control and FTL calculations.

@@StantonSpaceGamir in the pegasus case they are down due to the retrofit procedure, it can be possible that if they are allerted and go to manual they simply put someone to every now not-networked, not-wireless reachable and manual-ruled station They would have need everyone possible at work, but in the end they have just fight a previous wars in that situation

@@FedoReds88 they were already in manual though. The other option would have been to turn all their systems on, leaving them vulnerable to the cylon back door. Manual mode means none of the automated systems, no jump computations. Sure gun crews could man their batteries just like in Razor, but all the viper mark 7s don’t really have a manual mode. It’d be an extremely weakened way to fight.

@@StantonSpaceGamir well, if they know the backdoor problem, they will have gone for deactivate every compromised system, also in the fighters, it would have been a weakened option, but due to the larger numbers that colonials can put on space than cylon, they can still win massively the battle

@@StantonSpaceGamir Pluss i don't think they are in manual, because the don't know that the Cylons can penetrate their system And maybe if the colonials simply turn off every wifi data transmitting systems and/or internal ship/planetary network, they can still use the cnp or others planetary defense gestional, admitting that the Cylons cannot penetrate via others ways (ie using the dradis radio emissions as a sort of entrance or some light attivated sensors like spectrometer)

Considering the Cylons admitted, that they could've not defeated Colonial Fleet in a fair fight, you have you answer. But I like to tinker around with these scenarios myself :D

That was pretty amazing, but something puzzled me. When one of the Battlestars we're being hit with middles it looked like the bow section was able to separate from the rest of the body of the ship and become a space vessel onto itself. Was that the case, or was it just The graphics of it being blown apart that made it look like the front part of the ship could become a ship on its own

I would love a story based on the modern BSG era in a kinda "what if Baltar got caught giving Six access to the fleets mainframe", and a real second war against the Cylons had taken place. The Modern era basestars were no match against a fleet of Mercury, Valkarie, and Jupiter 2s combined with their lesser support ships. Heck, I'd take 8000 points worth of Artimis and whatever else I could squeeze in against 8000 points of modern Basestars. The flak pretty much makes them useless LOL.

Exactly. This video shows it clear as day. A coordinated fleet of modern colonial ships will destroy any equally sized fleet of Basestars. Without the CNP, the Cylons would not have won the second war. Sure, they might have dealt a Pearl Harbor level suprise attack, but they would not have wiped out nearly all of Colonial Fleet in a matter of hours.

I think it would depend heavily upon how many battlestars were destroyed or disabled in the first 10 minutes of the conflict. Don't forget the basestars jumped right next to the planets and fire their nukes very quickly. I think the colonial fleet after realizing what was happening and getting over the initial surprise would have launched a massive counterattack and destroyed number of basestars. however the damage would be done. A lot of cities on a number of planets would have been destroyed a huge economic blow would be done to the colonial economy to prolong the war. The cylons on the other hand did not have a centralized homeworld that the colonial fleet could attack. also they had no idea where the colony was. I think the colonial fleet would have to remain near the planets to guard against a second attack wave so if you really think about it a number of battlestars would have to remain behind a guard the homeworlds. meaning that only a handful would be able to go into silent space and begin hunting down the colony. also the colonial fleet would know nothing about the resurrection hub or even the fact that cylons could resurrect. speaking of resurrection you also have a number of cylon sleeper agents within the colonial fleet that could do sabotage or mount anti-war sentiment among the colonial home worlds. in other words I don't think the war would have been clear cut as you say. Oh and another thing to consider all of the pilots in the colonial fleet never experienced combat. true they ran simulations and drills but never engaged the enemy in combat. especially an enemy that the colonial fleet knew nothing about its modern capabilities. in other words they were not the battle hardened pilots from the first cylon war They were their sons and daughters who never engaged the cylons in their life. It would take time for them to develop the skills and combat experience to make them a true threat against the cylons. The cylons on the other hand had their experiences from the first cylon war and that can be downloaded into new cylons. in short you would have had rookie pilots engaging a 20-year spacefighter veteran. But either way it would have made for one hell of a series

That's one thing I don't understand about this show. Doesn't the military go through new software with a fine tooth comb? They should have found out Baltar's backdoor. OR maybe they requested the backdoor to disable a rogue Battlestar. That's what they did on Star Trek for Wrath of Khan and one episode of Star Trek TNG. They transmit a signal to a rogue Star Ship and it shuts down everything. They just didn't count on the Cylons knowing what the code is.

Didn't atlantia survive the war ? And was eventually decommissioned and a mercury class version was the flag ship of the fleet at the star of the second cylon war

This is a second cylon war scenario. Unfortunately, Atlantia was destroyed by the Cylon Fleet in a counterattack during the miniseries off-camera. Very little is known regarding how the ship went down, but it's assumed to either be the cylon virus or overwhelming cylon numbers.

@@tlsrob6772 Sadly there isn’t really anyway we really know how it went down. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the exact details of colonial fleets destruction. All we know is that most of the fleet was either hacked or caught off guard.
