Just finished the series for the first time last night and it's now one of my favorite shows of all time. The world building, character building, moments of triumph and despair (especially Dee) just made this show extremely unique and something else with many valuable life lessons. Highly recommend

How did Gauis Baltar inadvertently betray the Colonials twice and get away with it?
@3adgamd3r2 жыл бұрын
I’d say he majorly betrayed them three times, once at Caprica, again at New Caprica, then again when he helped the Cylons reach the Eye of Jupiter And that’s ignoring his surrender at New Caprica as his trial really makes it clear nobody was innocent with that, however he was most certainly guilty of giving the nuclear bomb to the mentally unstable suicidal Cylon who’d spent two years being gang raped by humans, and who subsequently used it to kill herself, taking a few human ships and hundreds of people with her, whilst alerting the Cylons to the location of New Caprica

I wonder what a what-if series would be like if the nuclear detonation never went off, the Cylons never found them, and they were allowed to settle on New Caprica.
@jamesbaxter51472 ай бұрын
I’d predict they’d still be found by the Cylons. but it would have taken several years, instead of 1 year. Living on New-Caprica was difficult, for the Humans. Not a good climate, even in its best regions; comparable to parts of Siberia. It was so bad, many didn’t want to colonize, and it is more likely the Colonization would be abandoned, eventually. Assuming Humanity didn’t give up, and somehow managed to settle the Planet properly, I’d write it so the Cylons arrive just as Humanity is finally comfortable. Have some main-characters be married & had children, and showcase the internal conflicts of Humanity beginning to surface about the colonization issue.
@jfernandez70982 ай бұрын
The cylons would’ve probably found it eventually, I’d wager it’d take them a decade at most and by then the colonials would’ve likely worked on setting up defenses and whatnot just in case. Galactica would’ve probably been repaired to a state where both flight pods were functional and all armor would’ve been replaced. Pegasus and a fully repaired galactica could’ve definitely fended off the cylons while the majority of the civilians escaped if not all of them

Planet would have been better as rest stop
@jamesbaxter51472 жыл бұрын
If it weren’t for idiots revealing its location, it would have been the perfect place to spend a century or several to grow the population and build some more Battleships. Even if they did eventually leave, some could have stayed, making it the 14th colony of Humanity. Imagine 21st century Earth Humans running into the descendants of New Caprica. That would be so cool.

@usul5733 жыл бұрын
Only roughly 20% of the planet supports human life. They choose the best part they can find, but conditions are still not ideal. Roslin declares it a rest stop, and she's right it wasn't meant to be their home. Initially Baltar is dismissive of it until six manipulates him. Still, Unfinished Business shows some nice flashbacks where conditions are pretty nice, so perhaps depending on the seasons and time of year it might be pretty good. From a practical standpoint if they find a nice planet and live there in peace the story is kinda over.
@atomicexistentialism84282 жыл бұрын
The environment is akin to the Siberian Far East. Cold, humid, wet and harsh. Combined with Baltars failure to actually commit to any colonization of the planet beyond tents.

The rescue mission back to Caprica never made any sense. For all of Ron Moore's "keep it real" B.S. he takes a hard left turn with this plot device because he has to get Starbuck's boyfriend and make him a final 5 Cylon. Where is the sense of sending 20 or so Raptors along with the pilots and marines back to Caprica? those are irreplaceable military assets. To rescue how many people? say 5 per Raptor and that's being generous considering they are each carrying Marines. So 100 people? maybe 120 at a stretch? at a projected 20% loss rate as per the briefing? Just not worth the risk. And what if there are more than 100 who want to go...leave them behind again? then of course there would be objections from other colonies...oh, so you're going back to Caprica...but not Virgon? not Picon? think about if you had a loved one who may still be alive and you hear there's a "rescue" mission going back to colonies...but only to Caprica because well, that's just the way it is. Makes no sense in any tactical or political way...
@phrophetsamgames8 ай бұрын
I mostly agree but speaking as a devil's advocate, the show has it that these people are the only survivors that the Fleet know exist. They know where they are, the mountainous region of Caprica, and they know they have a decent amount of people. A rescue mission to any of the other 11 planets would require scouting missions which would be a huge timesink, plus a massive danger to the personnel going. In terms of tactical, there is little sense to it. Politically, any increase in the number of survivors would help Roslin's administration. It is, as they call it, a win for morale.
