Just being honest, I’m 62 years old and fell in love with the original Battlestar Galactica as a teen. Starbuck was by far my favourites character and when the reboot made Starbuck a woman, I was pissed. I learned to eat humble pie when I saw the reboot. The cast was unbelievable, the twist and turns stories wise was simply amazing. Everyone involved in this series has every reason to be proud. Fracking good job.

I accidently met Edward James Olmos outside a restaurant in Encino, CA. Having just finished breakfast, I was putting my riding gear on when he had just gotten out of his car right next to my motorcycle. Right before I put my helmet on, he wished me a safe ride. One of those moments where I was stunned, but also not stunned by a movie star in that he was so chill. It's good to know that he was "Admiral" behind the scenes as well.

I AM SO GLAD toward the end that James Callis comments on Gaius Baltar's last on-screen moment. That one moment is one of the most brilliant character turns in the whole series. One of the best series I've ever watched - more than once. The story was all encompassing - and eventhough it was a reboot it paid homage to the original in a very respectful way. And the cast were magnificent - to the point where it felt more like science-fact than fiction. Magnificent.

It cannot be overstated -- the score by Bear McCreary is still the best TV score of all time, and it's not even particularly close.
@KaitainCPS
@KaitainCPS Жыл бұрын
What tends to get forgotten is that the musical sound of the show was created by Richard Gibbs for the 2003 miniseries, with McCreary as his assistant. He was asked to return full-time when the show was greenlit as a full series, but he had to pass as he had other commitments. He recommended McCreary be given the sernior job. It worked out extremely well, and McCreary deserves his plaudits, but Gibbs made a big mark on the show by going in such a distinctive direction for the pilot. Some of the cues from the miniseries are outstanding - not only "Are You Alive?" which became the leitmotif of Six whenever she appeared, but also "The Storm And The Dead" (when they're laying out the dead before approaching Ragnar Anchorage), a stellar piece of work with a plaintive choral component.
@lucemiserlohn
@lucemiserlohn Жыл бұрын
@@KaitainCPS That is not quite accurate. The only music of Gibbs the show used was the original main title (Colonial Anthem), all the original music was written by McCreary. IIRC Gibbs turned them down from the start, and had a hand in suggesting McCreary, but ultimately did not work on the show.
@Lykw1dSloth
@Lykw1dSloth Жыл бұрын
@@lucemiserlohn The soundtrack for BSG Miniseries was largely scored by Gibbs (his name is the only one listed/credited on the soundtrack as well). However, McCreary took it to another level (several actually) on seasons 1-4 & the films. Even the score he did for Caprica was amazing (as well as Outlander & everything else he works on). McCreary put so much thought & passion into his work on BSG & boy does it show.

Roslin and Adama's relationship does so much - shows the need for humility and not narcissism by those in authority, shows the need for separation of powers, shows how that separation can and should be beloved by those served by it. One of the things that seems odd now: Gaius Baltar was originally not conceived as a comedic character at all; he was just going to be a regular, straight-laced dramatic character. But when James Callis started delivering some of the lines in a semi-improv comedic style that made people laugh while still serving the plot, they realized they could write for Callis's specific take on Baltar, and he quickly became the character as we now know him.

I hated the original Battlestar because of the way the women were protrayed in it. They were very true to the time....dependent, relegated to a supporting role and far less important than the men. So the new version kept my whole family glued to the television every week., All four of us, our teen daughters, myself and my husband never missed an episode. A piece of each of us died with Laura. What a wonderful way to pass an hour once a week! Thank you all for your contribution to us.

I found this show by accident. I hear some of my coworkers talking about, but wasn’t interested since I remember the original as a kid and I thought it would be a kids show. Then in 2009 Circuit City went out of business and had to sell everything. So I bought the first two seasons and once I started…I could not stop. I now have the DVDs and Blu Ray, which is good since Peacock stopped carrying it. I have lost count how many times I have watched the show.

Loved the show. I kept hoping Dirk Benedict would show up as Starbucks father in some way early on. I liked Katie as Starbuck but Dirk was always my favorite. My favorite of the new show was Gaius Baltar, Great acting by James Callis.

I was leery when I had heard Starbuck was going to be played by a woman. I was a fan of the original. I am glad I gave this a chance. It’s got to be my favorite Sci Fi series and Katee Sackoff has got to be one of my favorite actresses, all because of this show. It is phenomenal, considering this show spoke to a ton of issues immediately following 9/11. The story writing was excellent, the acting was excellent. Again, one of the best series of any genre out there ever.

This reunion brought back so many memories. I watched the series in a little over 1 week the first time through... that's how addicted I was. I remember my first time watching it through... there were characters I loved and hated. But after re-watching the series so many times, all of them were just perfect. I think in the end, I would say my favourite subplot of the series was the relationship between Roslin and Adama. It embodied so much of the real world power struggle that exists in politics even today. Also, there was the aspect of Roslin being a woman trying to lead or co-lead in a world that had been or (has been) dominated by men. The disgust they had for each other in the first season contrasting with the incredible love they had for each other by the end of the journey... just absolutely amazing. Kudos to both Edward and Mary for their phenomenal portrayals of these legendary characters.

It’s a completely different take on the story. 40 years later with different actors, writing and technology. One version of Starbuck doesn’t need to be better than another. They are simply different.Played by very different actors and of course gender, which alone put a different perspective on the outcome.

Absolutely agreed. And Dirk Benedict sadly turned out to be a massive tool - remember the piece he wrote that was basically a rant against feminism in general and more specifically Katee Sackhoff being cast as Starbuck? If you don’t, don’t worry - it was epically dumb.

10:46 I was born in 1972 and watched the original BSG as it came out. It helped inform my childhood. So, when I say that Katie Sackoff IS Starbuck, the Starbuck in my head canon, the only Starbuck, understand it's saying a lot. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 I've watched this series 4 times start to finish. It's Peacock's only reason imo.

I love how Olmos felt that it would run for years from the beginning. It reminds me of how Shohreh Aghdashloo, who played S.G Avesarala, was saying that the show will go on for 6 Seasons to the cast and crew of The Expanse.

This show is genuinely a masterpiece. There were no “dud” episodes for me. Every one of them was engaging and masterfully done, and it's reflected in all aspects of the show: from the lighting and sets, to the script, the acting, the character arcs, the SFX... Just perfect! 🥹🥲

This series defined the career of every single very talented people who worked to create this and bring it to life. Ron, Bear, David, all these wonderful young actors who learned their profession from some true theatre artists. I feel for them in a way because when BSG ended, none of them would ever be part of something this special ever again.

That is almost exactly what Edward James Olmos said at another reunion. That he was glad that BSG happened at the end of his career as an actor because nothing as great would come again. And that he was kind of feeling sorry for the younger ones.

Even with more sophisticated special effects now days, the writing falls flat in modern TV and movies.

I fully agree with the recommendation to watch the Expanse. It's very well done and well written. Today's great writers can write great stories but they are not being hired due to diversity hiring for non-writing-skill based qualities. But there are a few great shows being produced occasionally. The first season of West World was amazingly awesome. Andor is superb, surprised the heck out of me coming from Disney, the horrific woke nightmare that they have become.

I’m glad they brought that up around the 37 minute mark. I’ve seen Katee in a bunch of different roles, but this one just seemed to have more character than others. I got the feeling she wasn’t really having to try all that hard to act like Starbuck because she IS Starbuck.

I remember the Sci-Fi Channel made an hourlong special commemorating the end of the series called "The Last Frakkin Special". Towards the end, Eddie reflects upon his association with BSG.
