Lets break it down: Colonials: Great Fighters Heavily Armored AA Weaponry FTL Empire: Cheap, but plentiful fighters Heavily Shielded Capital Ship Plasma Weaponry I think, in the duels of the fighters, BSG has star wars beat every time. TIE fighters are very weakly armored and have no shielding, whereas the Viper Mk II has superior agility and defenses. In a fight between a Star Destroyer and a Battlestar. Star Wars will win every time. Simply put, BSG still relies on Kinetic weapons, something that star wars developed shielding against thousands of years before the Empire. Battlestar's just can break through the heavy shielding, where as plasma bolts will tear through your armor and cause extensive damage on the hull. Overall: TIE

Considering these are MKI Vipers and Columbia class Battlestars. So, they are pretty evenly matched. I believe the Battlestars are more maneuverable and have 2 extremely powerful laser batteries in the bow

Excellent ! I never really thought about this matchup before but it works. Both sides are pretty evenly matched. You did forget that the battle stars put out an insane amount of firepower like a battleship. It's like a wall of lead coming from the side turret's. Other than that well done. Hoping for more.

I know this was said by you a year ago, but... What the hell are you talking about? Neither the TIE/ln (fighter) or the TIE/sa (bomber) can fire a hundred rounds per second of any of their payloads, lasers included. Only the TIE/sa has missiles. And no. There isn't a single model of TIE that has an astromech unit.

Starwars starships are much better armed and have superior defense a star destroyer shield is designed to take multiple enemys at once in the other hand the battle Star Galactica has no shielding what so ever so how it would go down is the that the battle star Galactica will throw everything it has at a star destroyer but i wouldn't do shit cuz the shields would stop it and mean while the star destroyer shreds it with turbo lasers and ion cannions whille the only defenc battle stars have is flank guns witch would be completely usles against a star destroyer

@@M_var This animation puts the old 78 version of BSG up against star wars. The tech from the older series was actually pretty much on par with Star Wars, shields and turbo lasers included along with the battlestars in the old show also having more vipers than a star destroyer has tie fighters as well as powerful missile armaments. If a lone star destroyer were to face an original series battlestar it would turn out to be quite an even fight, though in the end it would turn out in the battlestar's favour with it's superior fighter compliment, pilot training as well as superior manoeuvrability of a viper over a tie. And before you cry bias, I'm actually quite a fan of both star wars and bsg.

The work of the creator is fantastic. I'm more interested in seeing the various "tactics" or differences in maneuvers of the two; "Viper-like" versus "Tie-like". I really don't care about geeky comparisons, afterall, it's just fiction -- really apples & oranges. But the TACTICAL STYLE is what would be interesting.

I really don't want to sound like a troll, but I think the Battlestars would have an edge, because of the 50 heavy cannons and 514 point defense cannons and the fact that the vipers are a lot more agile than that, they have a higher firing rate than tie fighters, and they look cooler in my opinion.

ferdinand porsche Look of what the turbolaser turrests of a Stardestroyer are capable of ;) And Star Wars Proton Torpedos are mini Nukes with a concentraded explosion. At the battle of Endor you see a Star Destroyer beein hit by a torpedo and it's shrug off by the shields.

Besides Turbolasers and Lasercannons in Star Wars are no lasers. It's just a colloquial term for a upscaled blaster(plasma) weapon. Lasershots wouldn't be visible and wouldn't travel as bolts.

amazingly done. Never seen anyone put so much work into this. Although the BSG ships would never engage in that attack pattern. Most navy ships today and possibly in the future are in danger of taking the most damage from then the enemy when facing head on. Instead BSG ships are most powerful at broad side attacks. Where most of their weapons can focus there attack the opposing enemy. Star Destoryer's are also powerful with this maneuver, but it is not necessary since they have deflectors.

@Perion 1) just for reference on which occasions are you talking about turbolasers going through objects? examples please? 2) Dogfights are all about maneuverability. The tie fighter would be very maneuverable by jet standards. It flys like a jet, however they are in a zero G environment in the vacuum of space. A 180 degree turn would be vital in such an environment. A tie fighter tailing a viper would over shoot the viper if it did a 180 turn.

@Zappina I think it is the Star Wars:Incredible Cross-Sections that says that they are self-shielded sensor domes and not primary shield generators. It is a misunderstanding when people believe that they are shield generators, and that misunderstanding comes from when the Executor looses its bridge shield. In the movie they only say that they have lost the bridge shield and not the generators, and then it is the fact that they only needed to destroy one of the domes and not both.

@Perion In addition, the star wars hyperdrive suffers from one fatal flaw: It doesn't work so well in a gravity field. Planets, black holes, even large asteroids are enough to knock a ship out of hyperspace. In other words, there'd be no adama maneuver, stellar drift becomes even more of a hazard, and the battle for the basestar would have been a one way trip for any star wars ship as they would not be able to escape regardless of how much or little damage they receive.

@spoofoflife hope you dont mind me jumping in here, just an intersting thought, I suppose that you COULD interfere with the ion absorbtion system, but that would require somthing to the effect of an EMP, which as I understand there were precautions when TIEs are built. I could also argue that you could stop the absorber but to stop the feed would be like trying to unhook a AA battery with 20 layers of ducktape over it so, that or stoping a engine full of gas.

@NANOFORGE You are EXTREMELY wrong. Films are G canon, Novels, EU and books are C canon, Clone wars are T canon, games & etc are S canon, other crap N canon. G > C > T > S >N . I'm using G canon. This means the movies. It's the highest form of Star Wars canon. The numbers and BS you guys state don't exist in G canon. Therefore I was right. The Official site has data about SW canon. You guys should try looking at it. The Movies overrides everything else! They even say it on the site.

Good vid. Pretty accurate except for a couple of nitpicks. 1) The BSG starfighters would have the edge vs Tie Fighters, if only because they have been demonstrated to be able to do 180 turns to shoot behind them. They have similar offensive and defensive capabilities, so maneuverability wins. 2) The capital ship match up is pretty spot on except the Star Destroyers would have taken more damage than they did. Shields are a huge advantage for the Empire, but the shields aren't nearly perfect.

@onlypeaceindeath very true, just as you said, sheer size is the key. The more troops you have then the easyer it is to slowly but effectivly destroy your opponent. The more larger your army or nation is the easyer it is to slowly corner your enemy in its "capital", also a "no survivors weapon or milita will demoralise your enemy long before you get to the enemy capital.
