1. ST's photon and quantum torpedoes have anti-matter warheads 2. ST has transporter technology: they can simply bean warheads aboard enemy ships, if not boarding parties and other 3. Energy shields and impulse drives 4. Phaser banks that can quickly target enemy ships at almost 360 degree angles (depending on coverage) 5. Warp capability without needing to open a hyperspace gate

Agreed, B5 ships wouldn't stand a chance against a starfleet vessel. A grain of sand would hit like rail gun on steroids while a starship was traveling at warp speeds, but does nothing to their navigational shields. The only thing that a B5 jump drive equipped ship could do is hope to damage or cripple a starfleet vessel with the "bonehead maneuver" (opening a second jump point in a active jump gate and run, most likely not fast enough hence bonehead).

@@pfksr64 I will see Lita Alexander and raise you Guinan. In the words of John Sheridan "Your not the only one thats been touched by the Vorlons!" Or in Guinan's case the nexus. Also Guinan is a "bit" more handy with a phaser than John is with a PPG.

@@pfksr64 ST universe also has telepaths. Perhaps not as strong as telepaths are portrayed in BS5 universe, but probably strong enough to block BS5 telepaths. And Data is an android, immune to telepaths.

yer im a huge B5 fan but the tech difference would be insurmountable. shadows and vorlons might give them some trouble though.

@@craigstalmer2825 Not really In Stargate universe, the Wraith countered Asgard beaming by jamming In Trek, it has been shown that there are ways to jam transporters without shields So yes initially B5 would have problems but they can learn to counter

@@verdebusterAP This movie was a combination of StarTrek Legacy sounds and voices edited over fragments of a parody fan movie called "Star Wreck in the Pirkining". In that movie, all the "StarTrek" ships you are seeing are just 21st century inferior Federation lookalikes done with reverse-engineed inferior copies of the known StarTrek ships and russian technology - they couldn't go beyond warp 2 because their fuel wasn't pure enough and their shields were so bad they couldn't adapt correctly to the shift into the Babylon 9 dimension (yeah, the "9" was the name it had in the parody). And in that parody movie the "Federation" ships still won despite not being able to produce quantum torpedoes, not having shields and having substandard materials for the hull. The only reason all ships got destroyed was because Garibrandy (the parody's version of Garibaldi) activated the self-destruct of the station to deter the fake ST fleet from taking over, so when the fake ST fleet left, they would have turned the self-destruct, but at the last second Garibrandy tripped over and couldn't deactivate the sequence so everyone exploded - specially since the Constitution-lookalike comms were apparently damaged from one hell of a party and being already broken it couldn't warn the other ships to evade.

I think B5 with its white star fleet would take out alot of ST ships. The white stars must be the one of the best ships in both universe's. It just looks the part.

This YT video was a combination of StarTrek Legacy sounds and voices edited over fragments of a parody fan movie called "Star Wreck in the Pirkining". In that movie, all the "StarTrek" ships you are seeing are just 21st century inferior Federation lookalikes done with reverse-engineed inferior copies of the known StarTrek ships and russian technology - they couldn't go beyond warp 2 because their fuel wasn't pure enough and their shields were so bad they couldn't adapt correctly to the shift into the Babel 9 dimension (yeah, the "9" was the name it had in the parody... or at least ... was that the name? In that movie there were no Seven of Nine, no Worf and no Picard - in fact the only "real" starfleeters were a Russian Captain with a sense of grandeour that wanted to be an Emperor, a strange version of Data and a angry Klingon lookalike, all of them came from the future to the late 20th century/early 21st century and couldn't come back, and then they messed up and somehow stopped Zefram Cochrane's flight from happening and had to do something to try to restore the timeline. The rest of the ship's crew were trained russian soldiers/militia which tended to drink a lot of vodka (from what the movie implied, and there's even a ship which got severaly damaged only because "the entire crew threw a party in the holodeck so brutal the entire ship is smoking, and then the holodeck doors locked and most of the crew got locked there so we are only two people outside"). So yeah, there have no starfleet regulations nor diplomatic approach, literally the first contact scene with the Babylon 5 universe on the movie was "hey there's another Earth here we should invade it" "sir, the channels are open" and then the Babylon 5 parody heard about it and said a very long speech about how they were not going to surrender to an invading force. And in that parody movie the "Federation" ships still won despite not being able to produce quantum torpedoes, not having shields and having substandard materials for the hull. What killed me throughout the entire video was the fact that the sovereign class the most advanced starship in Starfleet got destroyed but the original Connie refit was still going like wait what I'm so confused right now

The nerd in me calls BS. Starfleet ships had shields, phasers, quantum torpedos and in many cases ablative armor. The B5 ships had inferior weapons and no shielding. Notice how no star fleet ships seemed to have any shielding? They had to nerf them in order to make it an even fight. Star fleet would have absolutely annihilated the B5 ships with barely a scratch.

Starfleet firepower would likely decimate anything that the humans of B5 could come up with, especially without shields (why did the Federation ships lose shields at the beginning of this?). The Defiant vs. a White Star would be interesting though, and you can't have B5 properly represented without the Mimbari showing up. Dalen appearing with a Mimbari fleet and sending them on their way would have been a fantastic way to end this showdown.

my guess is that the Jump Gate overloaded the Shield Emitters, also, would the Minbari destroy ships so close to B5 especially when we have a fair idea of what warp core breaches do, and they would too upon the Galaxy class ship exploding...man..Keogh just can't catch a break.

Two points I'd say to the question of why the Federation ships don't have shields. I remember fondly back in the day, debating Star Trek vs everything else, and I went pretty deep into it. Federation ships seem to frequently lose their shields as soon as a big battle starts. See DS9: Sacrifice of Angels, or the battles of Wolf 359 and Sector 001. Between the three battles, I only saw two Federation ships take shield hits, one being the Enterprise E. I suspect in large, pitched battles, most ships redirect shield power to weapons, or more likely my second thought: Federation shield tech operates by using a phase modulation field, which blocks the wave patterns of things like lasers, phasers and photonic weapons, unless the weapon frequency matches. However, that really only works on light-based weapons. Again, lasers, phasers (photon-microwave lasers), and photon torpedoes. They are notably worse, if even capable of it at all, at blocking plasma based weapons. Disruptors in Star Trek are, as I understand it, plasma particle weapons that are carried by laser/phaser beams. Babylon 5 ships appear to use plasma based weapons, without laser carriers. Side note: Star Wars weapons, despite being called 'lasers', behave in such a way as to indicate that they're not lasers, but also plasma weapons. Edit: I see there's some dialogue included talking about the shield loss. I dunno what caused that in the original video, or if the dialogue was added to explain it. Also I wouldn't put too much faith in the dialogue, as it's ridiculously inconsistent.

@@TheOtherGuys2 I get that but the 3 examples you used aren't the best Sacrifice of Angels, the Dominion already knew how to punch through federation shielding. If the defiant mentioned shields in dialogue then I can only assume either slip-up for budget For Wolf 359, using Picard's knowledge, the Borg were able to bypass Federation shields entirely and one tap ships at will. At first contact, those ships were fighting for several days straight, we can only presume each of those starfleet vessels were already heavily battle damaged, I.E. the Defiant, as she was fighting at almost every line the Borg had approached.

@@lexthelegend1455 At Wolf 359, Picard wouldn't have known each individual ship's shield frequency. I think in that case the Borg just overpowered the Federation ships. But even so, their shields ostensibly should have been there to be overpowered. Anyway, those are the only big fleet battles in Star Trek I can think of. Do you have other examples? (I haven't actually seen most of DS9, to be fair.)

@@TheOtherGuys2 I think the reason for not giving shields to Federation ships is obvious. It would have been a boring bloodbath if Federation ships where using their shields. Without shields is a more balanced battle. And no one, NO ONE will choose to lower shields in the middle of a battle. Also the idea of plasma weapons bypassing shields comes with a logical error. if shields where incapable of stopping plasma weapons, then everyone in the Star Trek Universe would be switching to plasma weapons or at least putting a few of those next to their standard torpedoes and phasers. Then in the battle, first destroy enemy shield generators with a plasma beam, then finish enemy ship with all weapons available.

The closest comparison from Star Trek I can think of offhand is when the Romulans and Cardassians attacked the 'Founders Homeworld'. 30 percent of the planetary crust was destroyed in the opening volley. Hell of a lot of damage. Realistically I think Earth Force, even with the help of the Rangers, are pretty much screwed.

Except Earth Alliance ships are armed with point defense that can shoot down incoming energy bursts. They are specifically the only B5 star nation to have such weaponry. Torpedos should be mostly useless except for the odd lucky hit. Phasers, on the other hand, should cut through EA vessels like crazy.

Judging by a lot of these comments, many of you have never seen star wreck in the pirkinning. It was a fanfilm made by a couple guys in Finland way back in 2005. The original version was free.. when they decided to release a dvd of it.. and make actual money, they had to redo all of the special effects with new ships/stations. So pretty much what you are seeing is now 15-16year old effects.. pretty good for back then actually.

This apparently nods to an second variant of the Terran empire ( originally in the 1966 original series under the episode “mirror mirror “ ) but this variant Terran empire , which was created by the idea of the Soviets had won the Cold War and ended up creating their own variant of the federation, that used trans warp to attack the Babylon 5 station ( where the ships are dark alternate universe versions of iconic ships up to enterprise E , starship status wise ) despite the fact this attack failed it throws an monkey wrench into new series canon information, to find out there’s an second Terran empire that never Fell to the Klingon/ cardassian alliance as was canon referenced in The DS9 series but this one is one that wasn’t ever defeated in that alternate dark mirror universe…

Well these videos (not audio) is from a parody movie "Star Wreck: In the Pirking". In this movie at one point they beam down a "red shirt" to see if the planet below is habitable (obviously it wasn't). Due to communication issue one Trek-captain transfers photon torpedos filled with light beer to their main ship and their attempt to take down Excalibur goes horribly wrong. Of course we have "Sheridan" giving speech to his crew on command deck and him missing the start of the fight.

Ahhh yes, I forgot about this gem.... Guys, calm down. It's from a Finnish fanmovie made several years ago called Star Wreck: In the Pirkining. It's about an overly ambitious but equally often overstepped captain Pirk who somehow gets trapped in Starfleets past and decides to reshape the Federation into what he considers to be a more efficient government: a brutally (inefficient and incompetent) authoritarian dictatorship with him as the big boss. By random accident, the rustbucket of the fleet (their term for the Constitution-class, under the command of a Russian by the name of Fukov) runs across an alien vessel, and as per orders from Emperor Pirk, shoot it down. The fleet moves out and in the other universe runs into Babel 13 under the command of Captain Cherrypie, the overly dramatic dreamer who likes to hear himself talk, but is otherwise the very opposite of Pirk. Pirk and Cherrypie hate each other and decide to blow each other up, which the Psy-Corps honcho Festerbester (who commands the Excalibur-class Excavator) is not very keen happy with. The rest can be seen here and I will not spoil where Pirk and his crew (along with their Data version called Info and the primitively aggressive officer Dwarf) end up at the end.

Babylon 5 is using effectively gunpowder weapons for point defense and lasers as heavy weapons. There is a TNG episode that specifically mentions that lasers cant penetrate the navigation shields. As much as i like B5,they stand no chance vs the Federation, probably no chance vs a single Federation ship.

Not a lot of the weapons in the start in B5 are particle weapons and if anybody remembers when the orbital defense grid was turned against Earth those guns are the same guns that are on the Omega class destroyers

Although I really need help with something; I'm planning on making a meme where a certain popular cringe Minecraft YoutTuber gets bombarded by a Minecraft version of the USS Enterprise-E. When an entire fleet loses shields, the vessels with ablative armor should take point. Flank the enemy with the larger ships and punch holes in enemy grouping with the smaller ones... Rip them a new one, the Straczynski shot first...

As I remember correctly, that big long cruiser was a result of Vorlon technology. That ship alone would have done far more damage to the little tiny ships. I tend to think ST had random firepower based on the situation. Sometimes they could wipe out an entire planet. Other times they couldn't destroy a Ferengi vessel. It varied by the story writer. Since JMS was the person who did B5, it was much less random. But the big thing is that the ST ships could maneuver without regard to physics (they turn like airplanes). This fact alone would make them hard to hit. Very few of them would be taken out. Because shields, warp drive, and their propulsion system is based in fantasy than real known physics, ST always wins any battle. They could have a few ships warp in, launch a few quantum torpedos, then get out, and keep this up. You can never do a space battle scene with any meaning when one side that tries to conform to the known laws of physics vs one that does not. The ships from the Expanse would be wiped out even quicker.

Well, if you consider, that Vorlons didnt even have transporter technology, and energy shields, not mentioning other far superior technologies from star trek, i need to disagree with you. Simply said, if we discount, that the Vorlons were energy based life forms, in technological level they were actually behind the Federation and that includes bio technology, which supposed to be the Tech of the Vorlons. These two tech worlds can not be compared. What would Q or the Borg do to the B5 uni then?

Well... This was somewhat fun to watch. It's a little off because the tech is different. B5 is a little more "down to earth" and Star Trek always... well it's Star Trek. With energy shields and energy based weapons a fleet of Starfleet vessels should have no problems creaming this combined fleet of Omega's, White Stars and Starfuries. I don't count the Excalibur to B5 because I hate that ugly thing. B5 weapons are based on laser and plasma weapons and fusion warheads. This should prove very ineffective against modern shields and the strong hull design of cruiserlike ships like the Sovereign, Galaxy, Excelsior or Ambassador-Classes. It's really hard to compare these two francises against each other because the tech is so different. The fact that the jump gate or the singularity disables the shields in order to make this "battle" fun is a litte weird. This situation is unfair and not to mention unrealistic. Since when is Captain Picard a ruthless warmonger? Ok ok.. it Mirror Universe.. still I have a time imagine Captain Picard as a bad guy. But... I pay good money to see Janeway suffer.. just a little. A better comparison would be BSG against The Expense. Both using kinetic weapons and rockets, thick armour plating and more realistic physics if there is such a thing in Science Fiction... A fight between a battlestar and MCRN Battleship would be interesting. A little critique on the side...next time please use the full array of weapons for the B5 side. The Omega destroyer are extremely well armed with guns, cannons, mines and rockets. Something we never saw in the series because of the small budget. I'd love to see a big barrage of rocket broadsides. And B5 was upgraded with a pretty neat weapons platform in 2259 for better protection against capital ships. You used only the secondary defence grid here. Ok... enough of it. That was my two cents on that subject. Thanks for this video.

For the ships from B5, their main weapons are near enough aimed straight ahead at all times where as for star Trek ships, each weapon has arcs, (left and right & up and down) that it can fire in. If the Borg had battled the B5 ships, the B5 ships would have all been assimilated very quickly after the start of a battle

The video is based from a comedy/parody movie called Star Wreck in the Pirkining everything is explained there. All the "Starfleet" ships you see are actually 21st century shallow copies taken from the memories of a wannabe Data and constructe with Russian machinery. And the Babylon 5 parody timeline (in the movie) is wrecked because we can see a Vorlon and the Excalibur within days. So yeah just enjoy the fun (albeit the full movie explained a lot more, it's like the Harry Potter books, the movies condensing the action makes holes appear which weren't in the book).

A single Runabout would likely defeat the entire Babylon 5 universe. B5 human ships work with physics, they can't make the sorts of turns and stops and starts a Federation ship can. B5 weapons are also a joke compared to Federation weapons, using lasers and projectiles. Arbitrarily removing all shielding from Federation ships means there is no fight, without the Navigation Shields Federation ships can't travel, and they will stop lasers.

Anyway, he ends up conquering earth as a dictator and begins building all the ships from the federation 23rd and 24th century. He takes his fleet through a fissure and ends up in the Babylon 5 universe and the fight happens. By the end of it all no one survives. Look up Star Wrek and you should see it subtitled

Star Trek 2364 to about 2409 while Babylon 5 is based between 2259 - 2262. Star-Trek has tech from hundreds of races working together while they fight against a race that doesn't even have artificial gravity. such a ridiculous comparison. Still fun to watch.

This movie was a combination of StarTrek Legacy sounds and voices edited over fragments of a parody fan movie called "Star Wreck in the Pirkining". In that movie, all the "StarTrek" ships you are seeing are just 21st century inferior Federation lookalikes done with reverse-engineed inferior copies of the known StarTrek ships and russian technology - they couldn't go beyond warp 2 because their fuel wasn't pure enough and their shields were so bad they couldn't adapt correctly to the shift into the Babylon 9 dimension (yeah, the "9" was the name it had in the parody). In that movie there were no Seven of Nine, no Worf and no Picard - in fact the only "real" starfleeters were a Russian Captain with a sense of grandeour that wanted to be an Emperor, a strange version of Data and a angry Klingon lookalike, all of them came from the future to the late 20th century/early 21st century and couldn't come back, and then they messed up and somehow stopped Zefram Cochrane's flight from happening and had to do something to try to restore the timeline. The rest of the ship's crew were trained russian soldiers/militia which tended to drink a lot of vodka (from what the movie implied, and there's even a ship which got severaly damaged only because "the entire crew threw a party in the holodeck so brutal the entire ship is smoking, and then the holodeck doors locked and most of the crew got locked there so we are only two people outside"). So yeah, there have no starfleet regulations nor diplomatic approach, literally the first contact scene with the Babylon 5 universe on the movie was "hey there's another Earth here we should invade it" "sir, the channels are open" and then the Babylon 5 parody heard about it and said a very long speech about how they were not going to surrender to an invading force. And in that parody movie the "Federation" ships still won despite not being able to produce quantum torpedoes, not having shields and having substandard materials for the hull. The only reason all ships got destroyed was because Garibrandy (the parody's version of Garibaldi) activated the self-destruct of the station to deter the fake ST fleet from taking over, so when the fake ST fleet left, they would have turned the self-destruct, but at the last second Garibrandy tripped over and couldn't deactivate the sequence so everyone exploded - specially since the Constitution-lookalike comms were apparently damaged from one hell of a party and being already broken it couldn't warn the other ships to evade.

This was great! I am definitely a Star Trek fan and I loved B5 also. Each show has technical prowess above and beyond the other. I had always thought that StarFleet's benefits were its shields and warp drive. B5's benefits were its Minbari/Vorlon technology combined. To see them fight against each other made for a different storytelling experience.

Pretty sure the scanners would show there were humans, not to mention civilians onboard. The federation wouldnt open fire on them for no reason. Also, no need for the shields to go down. Projectile weapons can bypass shields. Otherwise, it was a decent vid, watched it to the end.

@@mackgiver875 Projectile weapons none that I can think of But Slow moving shuttles and the like have. Its possible some projectiles would if they were lucky. also its the deflectors not the Shields themselves that protect from projectiles. It would really depend on the writer I'd suspect.

@@starhaven1881 Deflectors are protection from space debris and minimal background radiation, shields are for more dangerous energy, radiation, and projectiles. Shields are far more powerful and have a much smaller perimeter than deflectors. That's why there is a separate deflector dish on almost all starships, it's just to move matter out of the way while the ship is moving so the hull doesn't get shredded by micrometeorites and such.

I think you guys are missing the big picture. Granted, Starfleet ships are much more advanced than Earth Alliance ships. I find it hard to believe that they would just go in guns blazing without first analyzing the situation. Yeah, a lone fighter did fire on a Starfleet ship but that hardly warrants a war with other humans from another universe. It just doesn't seem very believable but then again this is Star Trek VS Babylon 5, not Star Trek meets Babylon 5.

ST ships rely 90% on shields for defence, so they're complete hamstrung without them - the EA ships use laser weapons which even the navigational deflectors would be able to withstand. Also; why were they constantly missing with phasers? Those weapons basically do not miss (at least at reasonable ranges) as the arrays they use allow for precise targeting - they would have just picked the Starfuries out of the sky in seconds. In a clean matchup, one Sovereign should be more than a match for the EA ships and B5; the addition of Whitestars and the Excalibur would likely even things back up a lot; but this ST fleet should have rolled over them.

Exactly. In a setting without shields, you'd obviously load up 100 weapon systems per ship. That isn't the way it works with ST tech.

Please read the video description and the other ton of comments explaining things - it states it is based on Star Wreck in the Pirkining - those ships are not Federation vessels, but attempts at reverse-engineering done with 21st century russian technology, and they are not manned by a Federeation crew, either. The techs they had were barely enough to function and had a lot of the backup systems gone.

People in comments arguing with some saying that Star Trek ship are much more powerful, and other saying that B5 ones are. But do we actually know how powerful either ones are?(like in tnt equivalent). We know that basically any Stargate ships(even wraith) would absolutely crush both, but I haven't seen estimations of ST and B5 power levels

Because trek has ships that have shielding as well as weapons that accurately hit their targets from tens of thousands of kilometers away. This fight shouldn't even be close. Earth doesn't even have artificial gravity or inertial dampners untill the end of the series in B5.

Having shields definitely doesn't mean victory if both ships can shoot. Lack of artificial gravity can be explained by differences in physic laws. The dampeners however can be tricky, as it would mean B5 ships wouldn't be able to accelerate fast, while Star trek ships would be

I'm pretty sure an antimatter warhead that hits an EA destroyer would completely annihilate the ship instantly.

I liked it! It is interesting how Star Fleet used the same tactic Ivanova used in the battle against the Omega X destroyer fleet in B5: use a coherent fleet and then use speed to destroy a stronger, but slower fleet one ship at a time (focus fire). 13:39 Lol

Anyone that is familiar with the difference in tech level presented in the two franchises will know trek ships are way more advance then most the factions in B5, and yes I love B5, had great storylines, ships, characters, etc. Different sci-fi creators just chose to use different levels of tech for the type of story telling they want to do.

Babylon 5 ships and stations would love simply to transporter technology. They have no shields, no way to stop transporter beams. They lose their crews. Game over.

Babylon 5 ships could open jump points right on top of them if they wanna get cheap like that.

@@Leondrius It would have no effect. Jump points aren't weapons unless you enter a destabilzed one. The shadows were the ones we saw destabilizing created jump points..and only the far slower lumbering capital ships couldn't get out. . As Star Trek ships are far faster, even that would be avoidable. The fastest of Mimbiari ships could hit .05C, some credit up to .2c, while standard full impuse speed for star trek is .25C--so at a minimum, Star Trek capital Ships are 25% faster than a White Star. uttery luseless, Babylon 5 tech loses again.

Please read the video description and the other comments - it states it is based on a finnish fanwork called Star Wreck in the Pirkining - those ships are not Federation vessels, but attempts at reverse-engineering done with 21st century russian technology, and they are not manned by a Federeation crew, either, but a totalitarian fleet akin to the Mirror Universe and the Confederation Picard alternate timeline.
