Battletech Alpha Strike: Battle Report 1

Nice to see more Battletech being played. As someone who grew up playing Classic Battletech I love Alpha Strike with multiple attach rolls. Gives the general feel of Classic without the time investment and let's you put more minis on the table.

Great battle report looking forward to more. A couple things for future games is that destroyed buildings still give cover until the end of that weapon attack phase, infantry have no rear arc because they can attack from all sides. Also scoring kills might be something to consider for future games so stratgetically retreating units off board could award less points to opp and give incentive to win objective and get out.

Infantry have a 360° fire arc and they don’t suffer when shot at from behind.

Super stoked to see you guys playing this - I love Alpha Strike! If you guys are looking at optional rules to include eventually, the alternate munitions are a lot of fun and give you some cool options like inferno missiles to overheat enemy mechs, flechette rounds to shred infantry or smoke missiles to mess with line of sight. (If you do use those, make sure to read the relevant section in Multiple Attack Rolls as it explains how alternate munitions interact with using multiple dice rolls for attacks like you guys are.)

Good report, enjoyed watching! One thing i caught is that infantry (like that Callisto Battle Armor) can't use the special movement modes. No standstill or sprinting for them, which came up once i saw.

Alpha Strike is good fun. Been meaning to do a campaign of my own. Especially since I've collected a full Battalion of Inner Sphere mechs & full Cluster Clan.

What dice mechanic did you all use for shooting/combat in this game?

We use the Pilot die + Weapon Strength dice. We are pretty fond of it to be sure!

There are helos with ct 4+ cobras and planet lifters come to mind heavy hover transports as well. The higher pv is easier because you don't have to sweat every loss like when you do a 120pv game. Also I think the clan wolf player made mistakes by standing still, speed is life. Stopping makes you hit easier in theory but it also makes you a sitting duck, especially when outnumbered.

I can certainly appreciate that. I thought I had an advantage at range of Clan Sea Fox's mechs and was trying to get some damage in before Chris closed with my mechs. I think next time I will have a little more speed and back them up better than I managed this game. Still learning here. Does CT matter when it comes to external cargo? I thought that it was an entirely different calculation for that versus say infantry.

I had to poke around to find the package. They are made by Woodland Scenics and can be found at most model train and hobby stores as well as Amazon. I think they fit the setting rather well.

The one thing I love about classic Battletech is it can be as simple or complex as you want it. You can go super deep, but the core rules aren’t too bad to get used too once you give them a shot.
