Those Axes, Swords, and Battlefists the IS Mechs have put in seriously work, don't doubt that for a moment. Most don't realize how good they are because they're used to the video games that until like Hair Brained Schemes's 2017 BattleTech all expressly forbid melee combat. There's a lot of close range combat in battletech. It's why the Urbanmech deserves your respect, for instance. Sure you COULD have an AC2 that reaches out miles of range... but a lot of battles are city fights where three trashcans will pop around a corner at point blank range and go "Welcome to DIE!" with AC20s. Long range combat mostly only comes up when the Clans do their Clan things and agree to slap fights in open terrain.

The animated series as such is not considered Canon for the BattleTech universe. Instead, the show canonically exists in-universe as a work of fiction: It has been referred to in-universe as a "popular but poorly reviewed holovid series" by Tharkad Broadcast Company, said to be loosely based on the exploits of the "real" First Somerset Strikers; it was even known among Clan sibkos on the Clan Homeworlds by the 3070s through Solaris broadcasts.
@frocat51632 жыл бұрын
@@cocokolah8567 Yeah, I know how the show fits in the BT canon. I was 14 when the show aired, and I'd been playing BT for a little over a year and a half. I loved the animated series partly because I was a House Steiner / FedCom player. I've hated the dirty birds ever since. But I liked the idea of the clans, so I picked up the _Citytech_ 2e box as soon as I found out it existed, and I started playing Ghost Bear, too. I also just started printing all the minis I need to play through the animated series campaign from the _First Sommerset Strikers_ sourcebook. It makes me a little sick that I'm going to paint dirty bird minis for the first time in my life...

It's actually canon too, sort of. In universe it's an Anti-Clan propaganda cartoon financed by house Steiner. Clan Jade Falcon hates it for obvious reasons, but the other Clans think it's hilarious.

It's a bad introduction to the setting because they blaze past the world building so fast, but other than that it's petty good. I could see this hyping kids up to try the game.

@TheZigzagman it's for kids so they wanna keep kids attention. Hence why they don't go to much into the history of the settings. Just giving you enough that older fans can see it.

@@TheZigzagman This got me interested in the setting, when I was 12. Shortly later I picked up MechWarrior 2 for PC and a copy of Exodus Road in the same week. If I'd been much older I would have thought the entire universe was moronic. I mean, like most "epic" sci-fi settings there is a lot about Battletech that's just plain absurd (like railguns and "long range" missiles that max out at less than a mile, not to mention the entire premise being "chivalric knights in giant robots with lasers"), but this is just condensing it all into poorly drawn animation with plot and dialogue that makes Adam West Batmen look like Shakespeare. Gloriously bad, indeed.

@@RenegadeHPG 3:40 An elemental's leg is the size of an entire normal sized man, while outside of the armor an elemental is maybe a few inches taller than one of the same men (5:40). In previous episodes we were shown that an Overlord-C dropship, which is supposed to carry a full battalion or trinary of mechs (45-48) appears to be about the same height as a single mech. The animators have no ability to portray scale, and I really don't think they cared.

3:40 a normal statured man is literally the height of an elemental's leg. Whoever drew this either had no concept of scale, or they didn't know anything about the setting and were simply given a few official illustrations and told "animate this." Actually, I'm pretty sure it was both.

I'm still fairly new to Battletech, only being into it for probably 3 to 4 years, but were Elementals really that big a threat back during the start of the Clan invasion? I mean, they're still dangerous, but they're the kind of danger that you don't see until it's too late. Don't recall them much charging into combat on their own without mech support.
@zoecassandra1352 Жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, 5 elementals are supposed to equal up to 1 mech in terms of 'value'. And given that our protagonists are fielding mainly light and medium mechs, they stand a pretty good chance.
@Adam-ln4og Жыл бұрын
1 on 1 without Armour elementals are like pro body builders, Bane. They can break a normal person 1 on 1 in seconds. In Armour they are 5 per point, and there are 5 points in a star. While the short range missles are not that dangerous its the Lazer, the claw, and thier mobility that makes them such a treat.
@FamousWolfe Жыл бұрын
You gotta remember that an Elemental's main advantage are it's small size and mobility (read: difficult to hit) plus the fact that if a couple swarmed a mech they could legit tear it to shreds quickly like we saw in the cartoon. You also gotta keep in mind that Inner Sphere mechs are absolute clunkers compared to Clan tech, and that's especially true for IS mech targeting systems. Just being able to hit a moving target is a big accomplishment according to the actual lore, so it would be extremely difficult to hit a small Elemental that's leapfrogging everywhere.
@TheInsomniaddict Жыл бұрын
Elementals were trained for anti-mech action, and even in Clan space they'd often fight other mechs. Zelbriggen requires combatants to stay within range of their opponent's weapons, though, so that might make up for their lack of range. During the Invasion, they initially fought against old and outdated mechs and vehicles where they would've been terrifying. Each Elemental can soak 3 medium lasers, most of which would miss due to targeting accuracy, and you can't fire much more than that thanks to single heat sinks.
