I’m sorry that social media has created an environment in which you feel the need to “justify” yourself and your decisions. My parents taught me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say to keep it to myself. If I don’t like something on KZbin, I just stop watching it and move on. I wish the trolls would too. I don’t have the time nor energy to waste on things I don’t like. It’s got to be a sad dissatisfying life to spend time hating on others. Keep up the great work and I really appreciate your real world perspective. ❤❤❤

I was raised the same way. I think anonymity emboldens some people. I would hope that the vast majority of people who are unkind online are kinder in person. Since becoming a mom 8 years ago, I have said that as long as we raise a kind person, we can consider ourselves successful parents. ❤

Jamie, you are not a hoarder! The dining room turned out great and this room will too😊 Can’t wait to see the end result.

I think if I am not careful, I can have hoarding tendencies but only because I have trouble making decisions. For example, I am not sentimentally attached to my mail, but I have piles of mail everywhere because there is some weird disconnect in my brain that piles mail up. I have relatively few sentimental attachments to my stuff but yet I cannot seem to get rid of it because I cannot make the decisions. This room is either going to strengthen my decision making powers or completely break me. It is looking so much better though so I might just survive this! 😂

So, I was watching this video and I heard you say someone called you a HOARDER?? OMG no way! I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago and I've enjoyed every single video you put up. You're empowering me to try to make my home a better place (not hoarder lol). Now, I'm 64, disabled but I try to do what I can, when I can. I'm planning on painting this spring also. I love your dining room and I'm proud of all the hard work you have done. keep it up!

While the comments I get are overwhelmingly positive, there have been a few that have been not so kind, including a few that I had to delete for mental health reasons. I think sometimes people who don't struggle with homes like mine try to practice "tough love" without realizing that we already KNOW we struggle and we are trying to fix it. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and honestly, I knew posting a clutter series would likely bring out some unkind comments. I choose to poke fun at them when I can but certainly, this room would give them a moment to gloat. Happy to say the room, while not finished, does look better already! The journey I am on is not only one of decluttering but of really getting some systems put into place that I can carry on throughout my life. I am already seeing a positive impact on my husband and son so that gives me the motivation to continue. Thank you for your kind words and being such a sweet addition to our community. ♥

Yay!!!! Someone else who has one of these types of rooms! What is your strategy for tackling your doom room? Are you sorting in the room or bringing stuff out to sort. I started sorting in the room, and I still am, but I think I need to switch it up. I am making good progress but sometimes it gets very overwhelming to me. You and I are both going to get our rooms done and I just know it will feel freeing. I think when rooms get like this, it weighs on our minds. At least that is how it is working for my husband and I. ♥🌻

Hoarder implies a disorder. You are not a hoarder. In a perfect world I could live your new way but life gets in the way. Your advice & tips are spot on & the encouragement I need to declutter.

One of the reasons I started this channel was to find others out there who struggled like me. I think all too often on social media we see the perfect it messes with our minds. At least in my case I know it messes with me because I begin to feel like I am somehow broken that my house is not picture perfect all the time. One of the channels I love is @karrielynn because she shows real messes. Her home is beautiful but it has piles of laundry or a dining table that is full of stuff and it makes me feel not alone in my endeavors. I hope one day to be able to pass along the inspiration I got from her and maybe help someone else, such as yourself feel empowered. Thank you for your kind words and being part of our community. ❤

Kiddo so sweet bringing Dad a gift! Lol! There is that other shoe and the rubber hammer!😂 Happens to the best of us. Not a hoarder-we have been pushed into buying way too much stuff as a nation, really. Then when you lose older relatives and parents, you bring stuff from them and eventually have to make decisions that in mourning you don’t want to do. Like your tape method, good idea! Glad you aren’t going to put guests in the garage 😂🤣

He was soooo proud of that chain of paperclips. Kiddo struggles with fine motor skills so that chain took a long time to do and he just knew his dad would love it, which he did. It now has a place of honor in Dad's office. I read a study once that said the average American home has 300,000 items in it. Three...Hundred...Thousand... that is just crazy to me. In comparison, the average European home has 10,000. Now I know we have more than 10,000 but I would hope I have less than 300,000. For me, I have always wanted a very simply, may not minimalist, uncluttered home. This journey I am on is certainly a mentally challenging process but I really hope that when I am done, I will be closer to how I would want my spaces to be. My husband is so wonderful because as long as I don't mess with his office, he really does not care how simplified I make the rest of the house. 😂

@@coffeecarbsclutter Aww! It’s good that you have him doing things like that to help the issue! I don’t really want minimalist-my taste is eclectic and I like my environment to change periodically (so I need things to switch out, lol) but I really would like less clutter-so I feel you! It’s a habit-my mom cluttered and hid things when company came, and instead of going the opposite way like some kids, I just learned the behavior and here I am at sixty with unwanted pile of stuff! Lol But these videos are really helping-I watch an actual hoard clean up every so often to remember how this could go south fast, and keep it up! My husband is a musician so he has an office/‘jam room’ which I clean sometimes but do not throw away his stuff, lol. He also has an issue with clutter and is working against it. I picked two episodes of Hoarders where the people were using the exact same phrases excusing keeping things that he uses and showed him the damage it does. That worked!

Good start on the room :-) I am a very tidy person, so I wished I had more rooms to organize in my own home :-D Sounds like madness to most people I guess. That´s why I love watching this kind of videos. Best wishes from Norway!

Want to fly to America? I have a whole house you can work on and teach me your tidy ways! Oddly enough, i love to organize things, but in my own home I get so overwhelmed that I become unable to figure out where to start. That is why I often say, "Start with the low hanging fruit". One day, I will get my house to the point of living simply. Until then, I am learning so much on my journey. What are some of your secrets to keeping a tidy home? 🌻

@@coffeecarbsclutter Thanks for the invite! ;-) I think the biggest thing for us is 1) Don't have more stuff than you need or want 2) Every little thing needs a place to be stored or placed, that is logical and easy to put away. From what I have seen, that seems to be what you are working towards too. We now don't have more stuff than we need, but that was a process. We have gotten rid of things in several stages, and now only have things that we really love, and in a number that suits our need. Don´t get me wrong, we don't have empty cupboards or drawers, but they are not overfilled, That makes it so much easier to put things back. When this was achieved, it was much easier to stay tidy with much less effort. BUT, I understand that this may not be as easy for everyone :-)

Honestly, I don't think I am a hoarder per say but I feel like I just get overwhelmed and then things pile up. I am working so hard in our home but the cost of that is temporarily my mental health. Trying to process through why I do things and how I can setup some systems to help me find a better way. My ADHD plays a huge role so I just need to find ways to work within my limitations. On the inside, I crave clutter free and simplistic but my brain cannot get organized enough to make it happen. ♥

Love that! We used to call ours the homeless room but then we switched to Doom Room after we took stock of all the doom baskets and piles. I am happy to say that at this moment, the number of piles and baskets is greatly reduced but there are still a few. One of them is a collection of my kiddo's artwork which I am going to display some but the rest will be turned into a memory book. 🌻
