Lock the Drag down and Hold On! Greater Amberjack are some of the most aggressive and hardest fighting fish in the Gulf of Mexico. These fish can sometimes be a challenge to get up without them breaking you off in structure, but in this video I share how I overcome that from happening.. When I'm targeting bigger Jacks I like to use the biggest liveliest baits I can find and drop them around high relief structures 100ft or deeper such as Oil Rigs, Large artificial reefs, or even Wrecks. If bait is hard to catch or not available High speed jigs or slow pitch jigs will get the job done as well!

Dang that sucks. You win some you lose some I guess. Try dropping one bait at a time down and pull off the wreck when you get hooked up. That’s the only way I do it now if I’m specifically targeting jacks. Them big ones seem to wreck you no matter how much drag you got in them. You’ll get em next time
