At the end of the episode, Keeri stated, "it's not funny...my mental health". I personally know of youths and even young kids struggling to make sense of their self-worth and coping with stress and phobias. In S'pore, the young among us face tremendous stress. They can't cope and often stress manifest into heightened anxiety and fears. Do we brush them off as not smart even, spoilt, weird, attention-seeking, bad tempered,etc? Mental health issues are real. Have we not seen an increase in mental health related incidents in the news in recent years? We should leave more encouraging and empathetic comments instead of mean and unkind remarks here. It takes courage for these two young people and their family members to share with us their ordeal. Spare a thought for them reading the comments posted. Thank you.

Hi CNA, After watching this story, my wife and I see a lot of parallel between Benedict and her behavior since she was a child. From our mental disorder journey and after many diagnosis, we finally found a psychiatrist that correctly identified my wife with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). We highly suspect that Benedict may also have BPD. This disorder is often miss-diagnosed as it covers a wide range of mental behavior. The intensity of emotions are experience much higher than an average person for someone with BPD. Whenever he blacks out, it's called dissociation and it's a protective mechanism triggered by the body to protect him. The treatment that have been very helpful for my wife is called Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I hope that CNA can relay this information to Benedict and his father so that they can get the help they need. BPD from our understanding is not well known in Asia and hence it could be missed as a possibility when he was being diagnosed. People do get better from BPD but it requires a lot of help, commitment, patience, and love. There is hope :).

That boy has only a very limited time to correct his explosive temper before it lands him in jail. It's very frightening when a boy who looks like he's almost fully grown has temper tantrums like a toddler. Throwing a desk at the female teacher's face and then punching her in the face and kicking her? That's not just one lashing out followed by horror at what he'd done, it's sustained - and I didn't see much evidence of remorse.

i agree with you, he was simply blaming the teacher the whole video, and thats his rationale to hurt her. rather than reflecting on himself, his emotions and actions. i think we should also protect the teacher. if the teacher has been hurling negative words, it should be brought to the school leaders and intervene from there, it is not a good excuse to hurt a teacher physically.

@Mocha 2606 honestly I’m not even sure what it is, that’s what makes it hard not knowing why you feel like this. i find personally that I just feel so gross when I see them and something that triggers the feeling even more is being cold. also you don’t have to actually see a sticker to feel that what you can just imagine it in your head.

is it about the stickiness of the sticker? or that it feels dirty? seems normal to me
@briochekoo2 жыл бұрын
@Mocha 2606 dude a phobia isn’t as technical. it doesn’t depend on the dimensions of a sticker or it’s shape size colour wtv. also the levels of phobia a person has differs. phobias are usually developed by past traumatic events, even childhood incidents one can’t remember. it’s the way their brain has been wired to feel gross/anxious when they encounter the trigger. i think for sticker phobia simply the existence of a physical sticker on things is enough to trigger it. some might have the phobia to a less extent, and only peeling stickers may discomfort them. but really it depends on the person and you can’t categorise the triggers as similar for each one. also just putting it out there,there’s nothing wrong with trying to gain an understanding of things but the way you are questioning that person is coming off too strong. don’t put someone in a spot they don’t owe you to explain their mental health to you.

@Mocha 2606 The fact that you're asking 'in detail' may trigger them even further which in no case is helpful/needed if there isn't anyone around to calm them. If they want to be treated let's leave it to a professional instead :) and in any case if you're still curious about the phobia please do your research online instead of questioning them even more.

Her patience and persistence is something to be admired. 2) Hope they can fix their eczema (there are lots of natural treatments out there to control the flare ups). 3) In the case of the anger management kid, would be curious to hear from the 2 teachers he assaulted - I wonder if they’re traumatised at all?? Especially the second incident!! 4) In the same anger management case, I’m no expert, but it would seem he might need continual therapy into his adult years too - his violent reactions to the triggers (that are actually quite common in the workplace and day to day adult life) are worrying.

for 3), I think I can tell you my own experience as a teacher. I'm currently working as a elementary school teacher in Korea and few years ago, I had a boy with high functioning autism and anger issue in my class. He wanted me to let only him speak during the class, not any other students. If I didn,t, he got really violent. One day, it got really serious so he threw desks and chairs to me and swore and screamed at me. I immediately called the vice principal so he took the kid outside and he was seperated. But since then, I was really afraid of him and I felt really depressed every morning because I had to go to work and see him again. Everytime I saw him enter the classroom, I felt sick and threw up and I started to sweat. So I think that incident was definitely traumatizing for me and it will always be during my whole career as a teacher. And another thing that made me really sad was that his classmates wrote about that incident and how shocked and sad they were on their diaries. So yeah, sometimes I think 'I wish I could be a better teacher to him.' or something but you know, eventually teachers are human, too. It was really hard to be in the same place with someone attacked you with genuine anger.

Dr Matthew, HAVE IT EVER occured to you that because you're so un-empathetic, she doesn't want to see you anymore even when her phobia is still 8, she prefer to lie to you because you ain't treating her properly/well? By any chance, does Kerri have another health issue, in correlation to her phobia's? I noticed that her skin has a severe discoloration. Maybe, there are other underlying circumstances surrounding the phobias. A great question to have asked her, is how did you arrive at the conclusion to feel about the stickers & holes the way that you do? I have found, that asking questions in this manner (possibly) helps the person to identify why they truly feel a certain way about something...the real, real reason...not a (possible) mask facade of a true reality.

Thank you for these documentaries that keep Singaporeans think about issues that are true and relevant in our day and age. However, I feel that your documentary in this case might be lopsided, but that’s my personal opinion and I could be wrong. To Dominic, I understand what you are going through and I understand the pain his parents must be going through but as a viewer, I cannot help but wonder if his parents were apologetic for their child’s action. To throw a table at a teacher and then went on to punch at HER, just because he is different, is that rally alright. In the documentary, the producer/director did not address this issue. I can only imagine what the teacher must be feeling when she saw the documentary because it reinforces the idea that she was at fault. To be honest she might be over it but what if she I was not. I imagine that she was just doing her job thinking of what is best for her students but her intentions might have been misconstrued to be lack of sympathy or empathy for her students. For all you know her decision was based on what she thought was best for her students but due to the circumstances it might have been perceived otherwise. I am not commenting on what any party concerned but I think CNA need to be more comprehensive in your reporting. But that is my opinion. I stand to be corrected. And if I am mistaken, I do humbly apologize. Just my two cents worth

So the teacher did nothing wrong by shaming him and telling him that he won’t have a bright future? 🙄
@nznz-d7h2 жыл бұрын
I think i understand where ur coming from! And i also think that they are apologetic abt his actions (just that it wasnt shown). Reason why we feel like its lopsided is because the focus here is different. Either way someone is going to feel like crap for what theyve done and in this series the focus here is on mental health struggles. Lets say if the teachers were to see this documentary, we can only hope that instead of self-blame, they can think abt what are the things that they can improve on and work together (which is also mentioned during benedicts counselling sessions)
@pourint2 жыл бұрын
The teacher might not have done something egregiously wrong, as the other students were able to keep calm at the injustice but Dominic was not. So the therapy helped Dominic with regulating his emotions when there is injustice, and not merely to bring up issues with the teachers so that they can be nice to him all the time. The therapy also helped him deal with a heightened sense that everyone was judging him and setting him up to fail, while other people in his age group would be less sensitive to it. Maybe the documentary did not emphasise this aspect enough and instead put too much blame on the teacher instead of saying that teacher acted in what she thinks was best at the point in time. My own thoughts, some people's experiences have just moulded them to be less compliant to authority. Coupled with the fact that a growing teenager has not fully understood things like "shut up and don't bring trouble to yourself" or other forms of understanding about how the default world works and how you should conform to the default to make it easier, naturally, some people are just not going to be very comfortable in the school system. However, I feel it is unacceptable that the school and school counsellors did not manage to address this issue, or provide some accommodation and advice to his teachers as he progresses through counselling in school, which we all know takes time. You mentioned whether it is alright just because he is different - it is hurt, it is not alright from a moral standpoint. But so what if it is not alright? We want to help the child right? That is why there is no emphasis on the idea that assault is wrong and bad because we all know it is not right. I'm also not sure why you think the parents should be apologetic on behalf of Dominic - that is very strange to me. The apology should come from Dominic.

It's great to see the sharing of their situation and experiences in vid. To understand that there are such cases out there for many who may not be aware. As for Keerie, glad that she has not given up and continued with the therapy and able to slowly walk out from her conditions. As for Benecdict, glad that he is improving. Anger management, is always not easy. Even for adults. Having this vid, it is very educational to let parents know the importance of guiding their children in anger management. When there are things that kids deemed as unfair, what is the right channel to resolve, how to handle...and seek help. There are many things that children are exposed not only environment in school, but from their own home, the media they are exposed too will have an impact on them , shape their values, thinking and behavior. I would also advocate that a school beside is a place to impart knowledge, it would be good to also start from young , be it day one from school about anger management. The older days children may be more naive and less exposed ( no internet, no cellphone, not so much TV..) to what the current generation of kids are going through and exposed to. Other than anger management, there could be something else to educate the kids from young. ...both from family, parents , schools and government.

Benedict's previous school is definitely a school with issues if they could not even "TRY". They should definitely be evaluating the teacher's behaviour, always remember that even teachers are not perfect, if they are unsuitable to be teaching, the school MUST do something. A wrong attitude towards children, can ruin them for years or their life.

This dude threw a table at his teacher and hit her. What the school did pales in comparison to what he did. My youngest brother has a phobia of flowers. At first I didn't believe it. I thought he simply wanted attention. But then I remembered ever since he was a baby he would cry whenever flowers were brought near him. My aunt was marrying one day and we had to put up flower decorations. My youngest brother was an infant at the time and everyone else were busy preparing for the wedding so I had no choice but to carry my brother in my arms while decorating the tables with flowers. He suddenly errupted in tears and it took a while to figure out the reason. As long as he's far away from the flowers, he would stop crying. But if he was brought near the flowers he would start crying. He's 12 now and would run away as soon as he sees a flower pot in sight. He would also get angry at me if I try to play a prank on him by chasing him with flower pots. Surprisingly, he's okay with flower patterns. He said it's only printed and are pictures so he's fine with it. He's not fine with the ones physically shaped like flowers, whether the real ones or the fake plastic flowers for home decoration

No idea why Dr Matthew gives me the feeling of "ah i'm working for the money of course, why will i care for other people..." Basically, no empathy when he's a Dr is a huge turn-off? Also, Dr matthew told her sister that the patient seems to "improve" since the first time she came her phobia was 8, and then 3rd sess onwards is 4... Dr Matthew, HAVE IT EVER occured to you that because you're so un-empathetic, she doesn't want to see you anymore even when her phobia is still 8, she prefer to lie to you because you ain't treating her properly/well? It seems to me that your cure is "face your phobia , it will recover" Apparently it doesn't work like that. Else i can be a doctor too, you just reminds me of typical old boomer mindset. 1)Why scared? Don't scared la 2)Why unhappy? just be happy la 3)Face ur fear la, else how recover Even at the end, even if she says she recovered... You really think so? You're judging her based on the points SHE GAVE. She don't even want to see you anymore cuz you're not helping her. But oh well boomer.... Bet that didn't ever occured to Dr Matthew. Just wanna chop chop, end sess, get $$.

🤣 They have folks believing good is evil and that evil is good. They are always changing the meanings of words and making up words - They turned men and women into powerless, mindless, hu mans/ who?mans. Kids have mental trouble because they are lied to about everything, including the true nature of our existance, the life we are forced to live is a contradiction to our nature,, and we forced to rebel against our natural instincts/ our conscience/ con;opposite-science. We are forced to learn lies and to obey evil masters throughout our formative and our marrying years. And forced to rebel against our creators/ what we know to be good and right in our hearts. Fear, anxiety, guilt, and shame which causes mental issues and phobias - are all feelings that mean we are not living right, that we have "gone against the natural use of ourselves/ we are living in sin" / malfunctioning. Every feeling good or bad is important, and it means something. If its a bad feelings, it means there is something bad that we need to fix, or something bad we need to stop doing, or to get away from. And Sometimes bad feelings are demon spirit frequencies influencing our minds and folks think its mental issues, when in fact its demons screwin with them, and devil/rebellion led by lucifer worshippin docs hiding the cause of our problems from us . More often than not these days - folks mental issues are caused by demon spirit frequencies, that we naturally, automatically sense with our hearts and minds. Hearts and minds are mankinds built right in operating system, hard drive, and 2way spirit frequency radios all in one Our creators laws and directives, and core traits are our original core operating system program. Anyway, I got carried away there - point is - they are always lying to kids, changing the meanings of and making up words, and the docs of science and his(lucifers)story, cause kids mental issues.

There’s something about the way Yukee talks about her sister Keeri that makes me feel uncomfortable. It may just be because I have younger sisters myself and can’t image saying the things Yukee says to my own sisters. That’s going to be quite hurtful… Dr. Matt’s way of speech with Keeri feels insincere and apathetic. Even if the therapy works, not building rapport with their patients and making them feel uncomfortable in the clinic seems counterintuitive to helping them. Keeri if you chance upon reading this, I have younger sisters around your age and will gladly take you in as another younger sister to be loved and cared for.
