Following a slight downturn in flowering and fruiting, our flying-foxes are starting to fly in lower to find food.
Jessie found herself trapped on a barbed wire fence this morning and a huge thank you to the member of the public who called her in and to Kat for rescuing her.
Thanks to that phone call, two lives were saved this morning as Jessie was hiding a sweet surprise under her wing.
Now are both in care and their future is bright.
You may notice some creepy bugs crawling around and these are a natural part of flying-fox life. We only remove them when there is a heavy burden but a few bat flies, especially during our long hot summers, are of little consequence.

I love all animals but most of all, I'm very much in love with🦇!!!! I would never have that as a pet cause I want such an animal to live in freedom, but find them so cute!! STORY: When I was very young, my parents and I lived in a small town where my mother was a business manager. That was in the years when women backcombed their hair very high. One evening she closed the curtains in the living room and something fell out. She totally paniced and was screaming real loud!! My father, who worked in another city and had to take the train back and forth, every day, was not home yet, so I ran to the living room. Turns out a small bat had fallen into her hair! My mother was terrified. Not me, I carefully removed this animal from her hair, saw that it was a little injured (wing) from struggling in my mother's hair and nursed it until it was healed. And even though I was already a vegetarian at the time (against my parents' wishes!) I made sure that the little animal had something to eat while it was healing!! When I saw that it was healed I released it. It came by a few evenings afterwards to say hello, or so it seemed. So ever since then I've been in love with bats. 😍 Lots of love to all animal-lovers wit a kind heart, Pinkie Thanks for taking such good care of Jessie and others, she looks so sweet!

It’s a common pest of flying foxes, a wingless bat fly. Creepy lil things but only a nuisance to be removed if in large numbers on an individual.

It's a batfly and it is a parasite. The bats control them by grooming
