Awww Tangerine and her big baby boy Tobias are absolutely beautiful! How chilled and happy they are in rescue - they've obviously cottoned on you are their slaves, and will tend to their every whim! What a superhero she is to be carrying her strapping son around with her, with only one thumb. Mama flying foxes never cease to impress and astound, they are fantastic mothers (and magnificent athletes!) Bravo Kat and Lady Batzilla on another wonderful rescue. Thank God they are in your loving, expert hands, and being so wonderfully well cared for. I'm sure they take great comfort from being together too - here's hoping with all the yummy juice and fruit you're putting into her, she will soon re-start milk production for baby. They are so intelligent, you can see it in their eyes. Gorgeous!

Mum came in through misadventure and she was doing pretty well out in the wild so yes, she will be released as she came in. If we find that they come in with an affliction that they are not coping with then careful consideration needs to given to each bat as an individual.

Right? I remember the day when I was still an elementary grader and there was this tiny little bat which crept into our classroom and the students immediately killed it. I really hated that and I could do nothing to help the poor little creature

Too bad the teacher allowed it to happen rather than teaching them properly, that is to be humane, No. 1, & 2, use it as the perfect opportunity to teach them the importance of bats to humans. @@cleverty1959 Well, the thing that's for sure is that the virus didn't arise naturally - it picked up a piece of RNA that it would have had to get from a human. It needed that piece to be effective at getting in a cell, and you can't explain away its absence in comparison with sampled animal reservoirs. If it can't readily get in a cell enough to cause a spreading replication, how is it going to get the cell infection count needed to get this weird little piece of human RNA stuck in a fortuitous spot? I understand refuting this would require a pretty deep dive into those biology topics but that's where I'm coming from.

Why were they rescued? Were they supposed to migrate somewhere warmer?

They have limited ability to launch into the air if they are surrounded by fences or buildings in a backyard where they might have been feeding , if there are no tall trees to climb to gain height. Especially a mother bat with a pup to carry. This kind of situation can be a fatal trap if they aren't noticed by humans. It is a totally human caused problem for bats.
