Good run down. It's been tough finding info on custom Bauers online so this was great. I've finally saved up for some custom skates and am having a hard time deciding between Mach customs, waiting for the upcoming Shadow customs or the True SVH full custom. So many pros and cons. Also want to clarify something - you're recommending taking the sizing as prescribed from the scanner and not readjusting?

In a lot of instances yes. When I made an adjustment on the first pair I regretted it long term. It’s not a huge problem but I just wish I hadn’t

Great video. A question on the Bauer Custom process and how they do it + wanting your opinion to see if this route would help. Just bought Hyperlite 2 retail skates. I'm coming from True Customs. The Trues obviously fit my foot incredibly well, and don't have a lot of negative/extra space or movement once I'm laced up. The Bauer retails do. Skated last night and just felt like I needed to tighten my lower laces like crazy or something to get rid of the movement I was feeling. Would bauer customs eliminate that negative space potential, similar to how Trues custom process did? I've always heard it would not, as Bauer customs are not a boot being built around your foot like true, but rather a normal Fit 1 boot being slightly molded to your scan. I'm a fit 1 btw. Pure hockey did not put in my super feets before we baked and fit...which is odd to me. I wonder if baking again would help (I'm sure it would). If so, any at home baking suggestions? I've done it before, but don't love doing it due to risk, and I'm not close to pure hockey... True also gave me red lines to put below my insoles to raise my foot slightly and remove excess space...I also wonder if this would help... Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

So even it being custom, they are still based off the fit system? What if youre un between fits? I find this kind of defeats the purpose of it being custom. This just seems like you can choose diff size for each foot and stiffness. But if you dont fit the fit system properly youre still kind of SOL

I can say firsthand, they won't fit. Threw down for custom ultrasonics and the fit sucks. Like many people I have talked to, I have wide feet that are NOT also large volume. None of us is served by the fit system...and all Bauer does with "custom" skates is a minor amount of skate mangling (punching) to make it closer to a good fit--consequence of which is that your brand new skates will look sloppy/tired.

Really thinking about getting custom skates since I CANNOT find skates that fit me well. They’re either too big or too small to put on…. I just started playing hockey 3 months ago so I just don’t know if I can justify the price.

Once you get better at skating (if you weren’t already experienced at skating. Some people have plenty of skating experience before starting hockey) they’ll be a great investment. The stiffer boot in higher end skates (and I got extra stiff in my Machs) can be difficult. Despite how much skating I’ve done, the stiffer boot takes some getting used to. If you go 3rd or 4th price point, you’ll find a happy median until you feel comfortable getting customs. You could also look at pro stock hockeys website for a pair that might have the respective size for each of your feet.

depends on your skating experience. if youve been skating years you'll have the ankle strength for the stiffer boots that customs offer. if you are new to skating don't bother as you'll take forever to get use to the stiffness of it. give it a couple of years of skating experience first

Have you ever tried an Ace bandage after you bake them? Take the Ace and wrap it super tight around the boot and it pulls the boot in tight around the foot.

I've heard of people doing that and it definitely works. When I worked at the store, we typically used saran wrap and usually on the true skates.

hey bud, loved your video thank you, very informative. I do need your opinion; I just got my custom bauer vapour, much like you, traditional eyelets and default aerolite tongue, with lock-fit pro lining… I used the skates a total of three times, and I feel like my feet move inside the skates after it gets moist or rather almost immediately after I hit the ice. I am a little bit worried. Initially, I heat moulded the skates while wearing the bauer supreme socks, which are a bit thicker…. i’ve tried both thinner socks too,….. but not more than three games…. And my feet slightly shifting back-and-forth…. so I’m wondering, is it the lock-fit Pro lining that feels slippery?… I use unwaxed laces…

I’ll answer this to the best of my ability while asking a couple of questions because I’ve not had that problem first hand. 1. When you baked the skate, did they have you kick your heel back into them and did they hand mold or something like that to make sure they conformed to the foot? 2. What kind of footbed do you have? Because that can play a role in causing the foot to displace inside of the skate especially if it doesn’t fit properly So, I don’t think it’s the liner. Everyone has different experiences based on the break in process (in my case, dealing with such a conformal fit between the boot and toe cap) but I will say this. After you skate in them for a while you’ll notice the liner starts to take shape to your foot. Depending on how hard your stride, pivoting etc and your weight are, the skate as a whole will break in further from there. So give it a few more tries. If you still have your previous pair, you may want to wear those in games and stick to your new ones in practices or stick and puck for the time being. Just to really get a feel for them because your feet may not even be slipping around, these skates just may be very different from what you wore before. I noticed from Tacks to 2S Pros to Machs I had a learning curve every time (to be fair, I assume you’re a pretty good skater. I don’t consider myself a good skater) If the problem consists, these skates can go to the oven much more often than their predecessors. I would start with doing the above mentioned steps with baking if you haven’t already. I’ll never recommend waxed laces though and understand liking the nylon ones better. One final thing that might help should you need to bake them again, take your shin pads with you to have on while they’re on your feet. Reason being, whether you go tongue in or out, that could make a small difference

Yes, great guess😂 thank you for the quick response. I did bake them at the store using the Bauer oven and by experience I personally kicked my heels back multiple times, gently. The foot bedding is the same default one that comes with the lock - fit Pro… it’s green and the sides are super grippy. I was just wondering whether I broke them, by having heat molded them wearing those supreme thick socks…. I don’t know, but I think it’s a question of time and getting a lot more use out of them… I just find it weird that my feet slightly move in them. to be fair, I Used the Bauer scanner at the store three times, and the results were near identical each time. For example, last night I had a major fall on the ice almost colliding with another player and my feet totally rocked back-and-forth…🤷🏻‍♂️

@@bdeone try the super feet performance inserts. They can make a world of difference. The socks will not bother the heat mold so long as there’s no knots or bubbles in them. Pop in some super feet. Mold them one more time in the oven with a fresh pair of laces and make sure your laces are laced exactly as you would wear them on the ice (not referring to the tightness but whether you go inside out or outside in for example. If you normally skip an eyelit which I imagine you don’t based on what you’re describing don’t do so for the baking process. You can also see about wrapping an ace bandage or Saran Wrap around the skate once they are out of the oven Hope this helps. Don’t feel bad. They are a very stiff learning curve sometimes. First time I wore my 2S Pros I pitched forward really hard and nearly fell on my face

@@TheWarningTake you were the second guy that tells me that …. at first, I thought the store clerks were pushing the product because it’s part of their cross-selling obligation…. I also cant wrap my head around how a 1500$+ custom skates’s insoles are not sufficient enough…. Now that you’re telling me I’m starting to wonder…. another supposedly experienced store clerk said put my waxed laces on and he was super adamant about how it would fix the problem…

I kinda wish I hadn’t gotten the extra stiffness in the boot but I know it’ll pay off in the long run. They are amazing skates. And this is coming from someone who had CCM and Warrior for every other piece of my gear

@TheWarningTake yes, i find the stiffness perfect, especially with the power wrap system, which automatically makes the lower portion of the boot stiffer. The power coil tongue is a must :) it fits perfectly and helps with the stride. Last but not least, throw a pair of Super Feet Carbons in, and you'll feel the difference.

@@matthewwallace568 I went with classic felt cause that’s what I’m used to. I do in fact have the Super Feet Performance inserts and they are awesome. I’ll be getting another pair of them for my 2S pros when the speed plates finally are worn out.
