Hey guys and gals, first off sorry it took so long to get this one out; my move consumed my time and energy more than I expected (of course!). Second, there are a few spots in the video where the binaural microphones failed and the sound reverts to flat stereo... sorry about that. Finally, if you have questions, post them in the comments and I'll keep an eye out and in a week or two I'll try to answer them in a narrated version.

I learned one important thing when I was doing automotive restoration: When you're dealing with preserving really old pieces, there is no "quick way" to do it. It requires careful planning and research, a delicate hand, and a lot of patience. As frustrating as it can be at times, the results are usually well-worth the effort. My biggest struggle is the patience aspect. I feed off of results and it can often feel like a futile effort when you are moving at such a slow pace, but when you finally have a chance to take a step back and check your progress, you once again realize why you are doing it in the first place. Thanks for the excellent videos.

How often do you have to refuse a painting that is damaged beyond your restoration ability?

I laughed so much at seeing the tape dispenser on 10:46, cause what if he just grabs the tape and starts taping the painting together and call it a day lol loving this channel, very relaxing!

Lol I keep thinking just slap some elmer's glue on them and reinforce with duck tape. He is spectacular. I love these videos.

I have a question: are there any diseases/toxic material that can be released into the air when cleaning a painting and/or its frame?
@thesledgehammerblog5 жыл бұрын
Depending on the age of the painting, I'm guessing that toxic pigments could be a very real concern. For example, during the Victorian era there was a trend for green wallpaper that used arsenic in it's dye, which killed quite a few people.

The patience you have to restore the paintings... The attention you give to each and every project. The amount of details you give with the coloring process... This makes me want to cry, and I often think "I want to be as carefull and attentionate with things I do and with people around me as he is with the paintings". You do a magnificent work each time, and we are really thankfull for the amount of efforts you give to the videos ! Thank you for your channel !

watching this as i’m trying hard to fall asleep-i would appreciate it so much if you’d make a patreon so we can watch/listen to these without the ads. i understand how important it is for you to get the ad revenue from your videos, with the sheer amount of work and effort you put into each one. but, the ads often make it difficult to use your videos, which are the only ones i’ve found that work anyway, as a sleep aid. i would absolutely pay money every month for ad free versions of the ASMR-type videos

Ok, that was impossible. That is - wow. That's sacred, what you do. I mean it. Taking a broken, heavily damaged, filth-saturated thing, and restoring it to such beauty. That's sacred. I feel like I'm watching a time machine, going backwards to when it was new. I am stunned. This is impressive. This is important, restoring these pieces. Wow. Wow.

personally, I really hate most ASMR videos just because they tend to be slow or disgusting purposefully to amp up more seconds into their videos but this is among those occasions where I really enjoy simply because it's at a regular pace and not annoying unlike other ASMR videos

MsReisbaellchen that’s what I was wondering too. It’s weird that the canvas was broken into 4 like that...
@monkeybusiness135 жыл бұрын
I would assume that it's been folded up, and cracked into those four pieces after being found and unfolded again

@@monkeybusiness13 This was my initial thought as well. And then I was like: no....who would fold a painting...nah... Good thing you have the same in mind!

I love that while I'm watching this, I'm thinking, "Ah, yes, he's adding the paper to the front to protect the painting while he works on cleaning the back. That's exactly how I would have started" as if I know anything about conservation and restoration that I didn't learn from you and a few others on youtube. :-)

wouldnt mind a detailed (colour and paint choice) explanation, so fascinating seeing you mixing colours and how flawlesly it looks to find the correct tones. :)
@lefterismplanas49775 жыл бұрын
Kristoffer Halvorsen he speaks about it in narrated versions. He has some specific colors as to make his work completely reversible And uses simple colors and a heck ton of experience to mix them correctly, But he will make a narrated version of this soon

@anhhuynhkimnguyen67935 жыл бұрын
Sharpening pencils with a knife is actually really common, and easy to do, and you feel super cool doing it as well :D. I usually use that method when sharpening pencils with soft lead since it’s just a bit easier and gives you more control than with a pencil sharpener. And you can kinda shape the lead to any shape you need so that’s a plus!
