As a naval architect (someone who designs ships for a living), it’s incredible to see the transformation from the way the painting was to the way it is. Now you can see all of the parts of the rig, the hull, all of the meticulous and perfect details that the artist painted but that had become hidden by time and grime and damage.

At the end, seeing that fade from how it originally came in to the completed restoration blew my mind. Specifically, the sea itself. It went from this dull flat bluish-greenish-mostly-grey expanse to a vibrant, deep, varied, almost faceted look in such an incredible color, like a cut emerald. Absolutely gorgeous.

@@Levathain "current" is implied in "saving the world". Obviously the big slimy wet ball will still be there, just slightly hotter, without a lot of the species we know and with a plethora of new ones if given time, but that's not what we mean by saving the world, we mean keeping corals and bees and polar bears and all the unique biodiversity that our lifestyles threaten as well as avoiding wars over water, climate migration and all the unfair human problems it also causes.

Just discovered your channel after reading the comments under a video of a - in my eyes - completely failed "restoration" of a 19th century painting. As a lover of maritime paintings these two parts were my obvious starting point, and I am deeply impressed of your work. As a German, I had to look up some terms, but I am very grateful that you keep your language quite simple, despite the projects' complexity. Awesome job, and I really can't wait to dive deeper into all those amazing projects that you are so generously sharing here with us all. I guess there are many that would never share their "tricks of the trade" with a wider audience, but to see how much passion, skill and determination goes into a restoration makes me admire the artists work, and I am referring to both, the original and the conserving artist, even more. Thank you.

I like the way the signature wasn't retouched - it gives it an effect of being crashed into by the waves of the sea. It seems like these pieces, videos obviously being Julian's art too, are metacontextually Julian's art in their own fashion. Julian may not have chosen his clients the way a painter doesn't get to choose what muse strikes them but, like a painter, he may choose his techniques or methods of attack. Every decision reflects Julian's ideology in a way that reflects the world influencing him at the same time. If there were no premise of people in the art world doubting the validity of paintings due to signatures glowing under certain light then Julian would likely have made a different decision. Videos like these have me thinking about what of today will be conserved, and from that vantage point I wonder things like: "What if, in the future, our time period of this decade will be referred to as the 20s instead of our 20s which is 1920-1929?"

As the peasant I am, the only kind of "art" I own is a really crappy photoshopped picture of my late cat that the veterinary clinic asked us to send them after she passed away and they made it into a "painting". It is just the picture treated to look like it was "painted" and printed onto a canvas, put into a crappy plastic strainer with staples (I only know the terminology thanks to Julian XD). It was touching that they took the time and did that little memento to give us back after all the years (and money) we spent on the cancer treatment of our little one (almost 6 years of fighting). She was an ond lady (passed at an advanced age of 17 or 18) but even being cheap and crappy, it has a sentimental attachment and meaning to us. It would break my heart to lose it for any reason, so I deeply understand why they gave it to Master Julian to restore. Sure, a masterpiece of a known artist and can't really compare, but the sentiment is there: the memory and love for something that brings the heartwarming feeling of family. Thank you for sharing the story, it was beautiful to see it coming back to life!
