Visual and conceptual artist Courtney Desiree Morris looks at the relationship between body, place, and ecology-often using her own body as a way to find space within a landscape.
Her installation“Oñí Ocan” refers to initiations of the orisha (spirit) Oshun, the patron orisha of sex workers and LGBT individuals and a healer who works with honey, cool water, and a mirror. Watch to see how Morris’ video and performance project looks to honey as a material, a metaphysical healing modality, and as a way to honor current and former sex workers and pleasure activists.
