I feel so bad for all of them, for those of them that are still with us, because they got seriously screwed by their management! They made so much money for everyone except themselves.
I love this song. Eric really was pretty cute. I had a mad crush on Ian at the time. Several years ago I got to meet Woody. What a nice guy he was. 😊

This number along with Too Young To Rock And Roll as well as Money Honey and I Only Wanna Dance With You were basically my gateway into Heavy Metsl. They influenced Punk as The Ramones were looking for a Saturday Night like chant and came up with Blitzkrieg Bop. There's an old video of an interview with Joey and Dee Dee Ramone and Dee Dee was wearing a Bay City Rollers t shirt and Malcolm McLaren formed The Sex Pistols to compete with The Bay City Rollers. Deborah Harry said in an interview that the Bay City Rollers were a big Influence on Blondie. There is a Speed Metal band from here in Massachusetts called Wargasm. The drummer, Barry Spilberg, said in a 1988 interview that his musical journey started with The Bay City Rollers. Wargasm had the potential to be as big as Metallica but they signed a record deal with a Rao label thar buried their Punk/Metal acts like Motorhead.

I also remember seeing an old pic somewhere, in some magazine a long time ago of Blondie from their really early (first album) days, and Clem (Burke - their drummer) is holding a copy of the self-titled ‘76 Arista album in his hand, not to mention his hair at the time was the exact same haircut as Eric and Woody’s. It all checks out.

i loved the rollers, they were my favourite band as a young lad, i wish ian had stayed longer, i went on to be a big punk fan and as far as i'm concerned the rollers weren't that different to punk, their influence on ramones is well documented, i think a lot of idiots are afraid to acknowledge these facts as it doesn't fit in to their silly, narrow minded view, rollers always remind me of docs red army, the man united football fans of 74/75, their look is very football terrace and of course the rollers golden era coincided with that time, great stuff

Special mention for Eric who looks extraordinarily handsome here (doesn't he always?) and some nice shots of his Lead Guitar work! We don't get much of a look at Derek who is always in back on drums, which is a pity, but the focus here is on the guitars and the shared singing. Thanks so much to Janny,. Regards, Jo.

This clip of 'Rock n' Roller' is a classic! Eric counts them in, and they're off. Great filming, great sound and love the riff. Eric and Stu, the teen heart throbs, dominate this performance with their solo spots and Eric's guitar solo is a 'knockout'. You can tell they are all 'into it' here; no distractions; it's all about the music, so one of the best 'rock performances' emerges from this session. Thanks again to Janny. Regards, Jo.

If this video is live, where are the back line amps? , Where are the 'Foldbacks'?. Who's playing the lead riff when the boy with the dark hair, who is supposed to be the new Bassist!, Is further up his guitar neck , seemingly playing chords,and when Faulkner's right hand is clear of his string's ?!!. Who plays a crash cymbal at the end of a roll , mid track? It isn't the drummer, yet a crash cymbal is heard!🤷.
@Shikta-poobah67 Жыл бұрын
@@501sqn3 Whew! You sure do have a lot of questions, don’t ya? Good thing there’s a simple answer for every single one of ‘em. To answer question #1 - off camera. Just because they don’t appear in the frame doesn’t mean they weren’t in the room. Question #2 - I have no idea what you mean by a “foldback”. Could you be a little more specific please? Question #3 - the “boy with the dark hair” (they all had equally dark hair except for Derek) is Ian Mitchell, and on this song he switched off with Woody and is playing rhythm guitar here. Yes, Eric is playing the leads here, as he usually did. Aside from a slight sync discrepancy in the audio-to-video (a fairly standard problem with a lot of YT uploads), it appears to me that he is in fact playing his leads. Question #4 - Again, the audio and video are slightly out of sync here. I’m not sure what crash cymbal you’re referring to. It only takes a quick wrist reflex to hit a cymbal, so if you’re able to see every single cymbal splash normally when you watch these things then that’s pretty amazing. At any rate, if you’re even remotely familiar with the original studio recording of this song, then it’s very easy to *HEAR* that the audio here is live. For one thing it’s chock full of mistakes and quite sloppy. I was never trying to make a case that the Rollers were incredible musicians… only that they were capable musicians. It almost seems to me that going by the hyper-scrutinizing nature of your reply that you’re kind of over analyzing it a bit.

That being said I loved this band from about 9 to 12 years old mostly R&R love letter/Dedication albums. They had some great hard rock songs on those 2.. And I'm a straight guy. Weird right ? But it would be awesome to be in a band that 99% of your audience are female. haha

My husband loves Rush, Ozzy and lots of hard rock. That said, his very first "rock" album was BCR Rock 'n Roll Love Letter. His aunt got it for him for Christmas. He likes the Rollers early stuff, too. He doesn't mind listening along with me when I want to "fangirl" over my teen idols. They are underrated as a rock band. I like lots of hard stuff and glam rock and they are total glam rockers!! Long live BCR!!

I’m assuming you’re referring to the controversy surrounding Derek allegedly downloading child pornography to his pc? I’ve read more recent articles stating that it was staged by an obsessed fan who Derek was allowing to stay at his home at the time, but who really knows? They have always been stalked by creeps over the years, so it’s not a big stretch to think that could’ve been the case.

When I lived in the UK ppl told me they were just a bunch of yobs. They were rough alright. You don't have to read much on them to know it. Les burgled homes and ran over an elderly woman. She died. Pat got ran over by his bro. The BCR took drugs & drank. They loved to brawl. Pat kicked, punched & spat on his sister in law. Eric is an alcoholic. This is what you can expect from Scotsmen.
