Moving to the Freeport Tx area (wife is from there) and i want to do something different. I thought about trying commercial fishing, but it seems to be quite the challenge from start to finish. I'm not opposed to a challenge, but i don't even know where to start. I think i would enjoy it though.

Yes the shrimping or commercial fishing livelihood is very challenging, I grew up on the back deck of a shrimpboat and have seen the good and the bad, a captain can make a lot of money, but can also loose everything he owns, I have seen both sides. I would recommend just starting out as a deck hand on a boat to learn the trade, and to just experience it first hand, but I definitely do not recommend jumping into it head first and buying a shrimp boat to start off.

hey man, ive been wanting to "recreational shrimp" ive read the guidlines but theres definitely alot of rules here in Texas. what i got from it is, you can pretty much shrimp all day, but cant shrimp at night 30 mins before sunrise and 30 min after sundown ? i always see those videos of people in florida shrimping, those lucky guns can literally catch shrimp with a cast net at the damn boat marinas under the lights. i just wanna do it one time for the experience

Cool yes always good to experience new things, I would suggest to hang out at a dock where the boats park, and start asking the people working on them for a trip out there It's really something to experience
