It would be good to remove housing from CPI, if we believe that people no longer need housing.

The point here is that... Bank of Canada is the source of the inflation. Strip down what bank of Canada created (+30.1%), inflation is not that bad. But it's not about removing it from the calculation, but to showcase that Bank of Canada is the cause of inflation. Also... Such as Energy.... Energy is up, price is up since those are cost to create products. Rent and mortgage, living, storage or borrowing are another cost element. Raise them, raise inflation. Again, bank of Canada is the source of inflation.

While I get Rosie’s point here the problem is cost of housing is tied to interest rates. When you lower rates, cost of housing goes up. If you strip it out and adjust your rates on other data you risk inflating a housing bubble more which leads to a financial collapse.

Mortgage component is calculated into there 2% goal for a reason- people trying to change the CPI to make to more convenient for them aka wanting low rates

Massive immigration is driving up shelter costs. Cut imigration to reasonable levels. Problem solved.

Out of context clip. His point was that house prices are too high and the interest rate is the only (real) way they are tackling it. He is suggesting that there needs to be other ways to tackle high house prices and current interest rates will cause a problem for the economy.

The cost of housing is the real problem. The price increase has been caused by the transfer of wealth from places like India, Hong Kong, Singapore ,Taiwan, China to a safe stable economy like Canada.. just look at the real estate businesses in major Canadian cities. They don’t trust their own currencies or banking systems.

Well housing has doubled in the last 7 years so that’s a double whammy. What does Rosenberg want people to do, rent closet apartments for 3,500$ a month?!!!
