It's amazing watching this video and seeing how my own prices evolved the way yours did. I started with a goal to DJ 10 events for free. Ironically, by the 3rd gig, I was going home with tips up to $300. I invested heavy in equipment 2 years ago and now, my starting rate is $1000. With uplights etc, I've charged up to $1800 for events. Thanks for sharing.

I’m a retired wedding DJ. I agree with everything except the equipment. Equipment most definitely does matter as long as you have the skills to make it matter. If someone pays $1200 for a DJ and they show up with crappy equipment you probably won’t be booked by future brides at the show. Also the clients won’t look at you as the best choice. Remember, clients who pay $1200+ for a DJ also paid good money for the venue, flowers & decorations. If you show up with low grade equipment you are also downgrading the the appearance in the venue. Plus it also downgrades the production and you’re performance. I’m not going to say I don’t see it happening. My company changed into a Audio Visual company so I go to setup a projector and see a DJ at a nice venue with trashy cheap equipment and it takes the premium out of the venue. Equipment matters. When I was DJing my equipment without lighting and extras cost $25000. Now that’s not required, I wanted the best but it looked professional and sounded amazing. My presentation meant a lot to me mostly because I didn’t want to be the guy with the equipment that was the eyesore in the room.

Nice comment on the equipment. For many years I have been using Chinese up lighting. The customer only sees the lights on the wall and ceiling. Why should I buy new more costly lights that do the exact same thing? Give and take I charge a little less than the other guy who paid $300 per light when I have 20 lights for the same $300. Where im from (Population of 170k...) There are approx. close to a Thousand known Mobil DJ's so Competition is Stiff. Likewise with the Topography...Most People would NOT even Pay $600 for a DJ. I tend to look @ it as an Hourly Pay Perspective. If im making $75 an Hr then in Per Hr wage standards thats DAMN Good! Most Peeps dont even make that working Corporate so that being said im satisfied with that Rate and there is always the Possibility of going Over your Contracted time where you can Charge again for the Overtime. I do this as a Sideline deal plus my Income as an Accountant and i couldnt argue with the Breadwinnng even doing @ least 4-5gigs a Month Steadily im ok. Rates will vary and that all depends on a good number of Factors, Variables, and Circumstances. Bottom-Line is after all Payment Plans are set and done...It is the LOVE for DJing is why i Ultimately do it. If all your gonna Worry about is Getting PAID then you have NO Business doing a Gig! Do it for the Love and Joy of it and NOT always for the Money! BTW...I normally am Hired for 5-6hrs a Gig and those hrs are a Norm from where im from. During Special Events such as 'Sporting Gigs ive gone as far as 10hrs and ofcourse the Pay Increases after the Minimum Time is Set. I am Called the "Fun-Size Kine" Mobil DJ Services, Hence the Brand is why i am most Popular in my Neck of the woods cos its what most People are looking for and can afford so they really Love that they are considered and accomodated and that is what drives my Passion is that @ the End of the day my Customers Satisfaction and Happiness is what makes DJ'ing worth the Stretch!👍🏽

Still you’re splitting that money with your roadie or another employee that you hired out correct? I got a family to take care of so I prefer working alone. $1000-$1500 goes straight into my bank account👌🏼
@djstylez73924 жыл бұрын
DJ Tecniq, I think you are missing the point of how business works. Bill Gates is one of the wealthiest men in the world and he has employees. Hiring a roadie factors into your cost and you can still bring home $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 if that's what you need to make per event.You don't split 50/50 with a roadie. The DJ is the talent the customer hired. The DJ is the one footing the business expenses, so it would make no sense to split 50/50. Also with a helper you don't work as hard or have to worry about the small stuff. That gives you time as the talent to engage with your current and potentially future customers.
@DjTecniq4 жыл бұрын
DJ Stylez splitting was the wrong term. Percentage would be more appropriate. A percentage of the fee goes to roadie or partner. Weddings can either be a team effort or 1 man show. And actually no I didn’t miss the point at all regardless he is sharing the cost with a partner.

THIS IS GREAT! Thank you! However, a lot of this is based off the assumption that we provide dkec, speakers, light, and all kinds of equipment. Big house/techno DJs aren't providing any equipment, or add ons. They just show up and DJ and charge $5000. How can we get to that level / justify that? Mainly asking, because I'm a traveler and I never have equipment... also, I don't want gigs that need me to provide equipment. I've been DJing for 12 years. Skills are great: my audience is always obsessed with my sets, no matter the country.

djmanny leon in Chicago, especially for ethnic weddings (Greeks, Arabs, Mexican, Slavic etc.), it’s like the east coast. People are willing to spend at the minimum $1500.00+ for a wedding. Charge them any less and they won’t take you seriously and they’ll go as far as hiring the more expensive guy.
@nikkosdinno3124 жыл бұрын
djmanny leon has to do with cost of living but also cultural norms I think. More expensive to live in Cali than Chicago but Chicago is not far behind it. Ethnic type events likes Greeks, Arabs, Serbs, Albanian, Italian etc. they tend to be about showing their money and having the highest quality for everything which dates back to cultural ways of thinking from back home.

Fantastic video man. I've spent the last seven+ years traveling all over the country doing everything from clubs and bars to birthdays and bbq's to weddings and tradeshows. I've literally uprooted and moved because the economy wasn't/stopped being friendly to my hustle or because the competition became like walking barefoot through a tarpit. One thing that REALLY factors in here is cost of living v.s. wage. For Example, if in the Bay Area in CA the minimum wage is $14.50/hr, I would charge more than if I were in say, southern MO where the minimum wage is below $10/hr. Researching the economy/cost of living v.s. wage is a great thing to take into consideration alongside shopping the competition. That's a powerhouse combo for determining your estimates.

Knocked it out the park! We’re at $1570 and to be honest we need to raise it more. Rarely do we get people saying no but we are a multi op too so I want to make sure our team is busy as well.

Awesome video!!!! You never mentioned anything about a deposit. Do you take deposit to confirm your date? or what is the method you use to confirm the client's date?

Like you said a lot has to do with Location. And maybe even States Minimum wage. Something to consider

This is absolutely the most useful dj tips video i've seen to this day. Not only you gave a lot of informations but you also explained everything in a very detailed way. 👌 Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just wished the price here in italy were as high as the ones in your area😂

Thank you for the info, it's been 30 years since I DJ'd. I used to be good a long time ago and I'm getting back into the flow. Once I retire from the job that I have, then I will be DJing full-time.

It’s all about convenience for me. I’ll do a large prom for only $500 if I’m staying in town. 12+ moving heads, powered 15”s & 18”s pairs, 30+ up lights, and all the extras. But if I have to drive an hour away… speakers on a stick. Or honestly I just don’t take it. I enjoying providing Over the top production to small towns that can’t afford it.

$1200 for just speakers?! sheesh bro your prices are HIGH AS HELL! i think the average is $800 for a small wedding $2500 for a larger wedding although My dad owns a production company that has been in business over 30 yrs we now get gigs for 5k, 10k, 20k & we arn't a million dollar company we only have about a quarter mill in inventory

DJ from Vancouver, BC Did my first wedding for 350 bucks an eternity ago. lol. Trying to get my current level to 1500 but not quite there yet. I’m hella established it’s just super competitive over here. I usually get 1000-1200. A bit more for corporate events.

Is sad but im in that range 800 to 500 and sometimes people want it more low the price but i did something good i put few more thing to my set up and i am able to get some parties on that range before was horrible

Glad to hear your pricing scheme it makes more sense to price based on service. Most DJ's based their prices off the equipment they own. I would challenge them by stating if your local garage have the latest and greatest tools and equipment would want to be billed to pay the lease of those items or be billed for what it cost to fix your car.

What a joke! Dude there’s absolutely no reason to charge anyone that amount of money. That’s all from being greedy, charge in between and get all the clients. You might charge $3,000 for a wedding but you will only dj once a year. If you charge $1k for weddings you will make $13k - $15k within a year. Aside from all the little parties. This video is all cap! Be realistic dude.

That's a little high for the true US average. The average is 1k for a typical DJ of 3 to 5 years experience. With the big city hot markets being closer to Barrs numbers. Personally the top DJs in the areas I have been in Ohio and NC with 10+ years experience were at max $2k for full service.
@BayardoRugama4 жыл бұрын
I said $1250 so that’s not too far off.
@DJRickWeb4 жыл бұрын
@@BayardoRugama agree. I just think 1k to 3k is a little high. I would say 800 to 1750. In my area I have never met anyone doing 2k plus that's less than 5 years in.

@@BayardoRugama www.weddingwire.com/cost/wedding-dj www.google.com/amp/s/www.theknot.com/content/amphtml/average-cost-wedding-band-dj Very few regions in the us will support DJs trying to charge over 2k. (If they want to go for the majority, they would be looking for just the high end clients) refer to this average total wedding cost by region table. You will plato based on your regions pricing. www.valuepenguin.com/average-cost-of-wedding#nogo

I had a co-worker ask me years ago if id come to staten Island ny (I'm from Queens) for $250.. after i got over myself i told him ..you know what ..id do it for nothing.. Come from your house to mine and pick me and my equipment up and at 4 in the morning bring be back.... If he was mute he'd explode ..right away he said never mind I'm kidding...People for get that while they pay for 4 to 5 hours your giving up 3 unpaid hours for preparation .
