Bay Area Backstage

Күн бұрын

Bay Area Backstage remembers Kevin Dubrow Metal Pioneer who wrote Bang your Head and that became the Metal Anthem that started the major label Metal Signing madness that Hit the 1980's. Without Kevin Dubrow and Quiet Riot you would not have Metal or at least what we Define as Metal and 80's Rock Period."I can remember seeing QUIET RIOT live at various arenas in the Bay Area and one show I will never forget - QUIET RIOT at the Omni at the height of the PEARL JAM flannel, I-am-cooler- than-you because-I-wear -Doc-Martins, I-am-too-cool-for -metal-or anything-that does-not-fit my-trend [era] - yeah, that time, you trendy fucks. So back to the Omni in the '90s. The metal masses came out in force to see QUIET RIOT in Oakland - yep, all 20 of us. It was a horrible turnout, but the ones who did show up caught the original lineup doing all the hits. Like a private concert for those lucky enough to venture into Oakland's mean streets.
"QUIET RIOT paid their dues and even bucked trends and lasted 'till this day in November - the day I found out Kevin DuBrow passed away.
"I can remember him being larger than life and very funny, with a quick wit and always a story. He was a friend to the show and a true gentlemen.
"I will crank up the tunes and bang my head like it was the '80s again. Yep, dust off my metal spikeband and remember my teen years. How they were filled with angst and rebellion. The only thing that got me threw those teenage years was my love for metal and music.
"Thanks, Kevin. Cheers!! R.I.P., brother."

I always gave QR credit for starting the Glam Metal era !! They were the first then Ratt , Dokken , Crue , Def Lepp TW Sis and so on all hit about a yr later !! I was 17 or 18 yrs old and these guys got the Ball rolling for all that came . They should always get that credit !!

Damn this guy had a killer voice. He was like over 50 at this point right? Even if younger, it's very impressive.

This is a very good version of "Bang Your Head" especially given how far removed in time it was from its initial release. Kevin sounds great. My first album ever was "Metal Health" and I played it basically non-stop for like 6 months straight. After that, I never looked at my drums the same way. Quiet Riot really gave that first push to take my playing seriously and I'm still bashing out metal thirty something years later. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to see QR and the loss of Kevin Dubrow really hit me hard. I STILL feel an empty spot even now because Quiet Riot had such a huge influence on me back then. RIP Kevin. I will never forget.

QR is the real deal rock band....so many pussy new bands, hope they see this interview and learn. RIP Thunderbird.

Definitely will miss them. Had the opportunity to see them for the first time in the early nineties at a club called The Rocket Club in Tampa. Small venue and omg did they rock. Saw them again a couple years ago and they didn't miss a beat. They will sorely be missed. :(

Someone asked why he had to do cocaine in his 50s. When you reach 50 and have to do this kind of activity, you'll know. Poor Kevin. Nobody told him he didn't need to be so energetic.

tell you what. Now that we can go on the internet and watch anyone from anytime sing live...DuBrow turned out to be one of the best. Bach, Coverdale, Dokken, etc etc etc we're all pretty marginal live. And got worse as they got older. DuBrow seems like he sang strong right til the end.
