I've learned about baybayin in mid-2000s. At that time, the only online resources were websites of Paul Morrow and the late Hector Santos, there were no regionalistic narratives at that time and script was far less visible in public. Despite the shenanigans born out of baybayin-related regionalism we have now, I'm glad that it is now far more visible and appreciated. So far, this is probably the best baybayin video I've come across, it sticks to the facts and is well presented.

fyi it's somehow popular for Filipinos to think that the S sounds for Spanish are all th sounds but no. The th sounds are for words with Cs or Zs. So Gracias will be pronounced as Grathias, and Zapatos as Thapatos So since Gaspar de San Agustin has no Cs or Zs, all those of those Ss are pronounced as simple s sounds

I was gonna mention this too. But I know there are three pronunciations (distinción, seseo and ceceo). Maybe he learned speaking spanish from a ceceo background? Not sure if there are actual ceceo speakers though. Just a guess.

"S" in Spanish when found in the final position is often pronounced as "SH" such as the word "Relos" which is pronounced as "Relosh".

2:10 - Wrong meaning sentence 😅😅The "R" sound is something debated among Baybayin writers the "R" sound is not expressed in Baybayin ancient tagalog was pronounced differently as it is today so what happens is that there's phonetic estimations and it would be estimated as either a "L" sound a "La" or something a "D" sound a "Da" many would say to use the "LA" symbol to estimate the "R" sound so instead of "Araw" you would write "Alaw" or not we using write word is "Ala" or "Ada" and it is difficult to some say to use the "D" sound (I use both depending on the situation) because sometimes an "L" replacement sounds better sometimes a "D" replacement sounds better or we need to changed it the word using called "Umaga" because there is the same meaning words.

Tagalogs used to pronounce these phonemes differently but not in the way you stated. /r/ sound do exist in Old Tagalog in words such as *ayibutor* (center), they also tend to use /r/ sound in ending sentences different from Modern Tagalog which uses /d/. One example is that in the earlier Tagalog version of “Aba Ginoong Maria” they used ᜊᜓᜃᜓᜇ᜔ (or *bucor* as stated in its Latin transliteration).

They definitely use D and R depending on the previous character of the word. It's still present in the modern Tagalog grammar. That's why we have din-rin, daw-raw, doon-roon, diyan-riyan, etc. Also, "marunong" is the conjugated form of the word "dunong" (the D in dunong became R because the previous letter is a vowel, the A in MA), marami (the grammatically correct conjugation, colloquially correct is "madami") is from dami, bayaran (colloquially correct grammar is "bayadan") is from bayad, darating (colloquially correct grammar is "dadating") is from dating, kapatiran is from kapatid, etc. However, many of those conjugations are ignored in modern grammar because of language evolution.

The use of single consonant characters for diphthongs/glides is wrong as they contain initial glottal stops. For Juan, in Doctrina Christiana you can find it written as SU-WA, not SU-A. J was pronounced S before like in sugal (jugar) and sabon (jabon). Christian should be K-RI-S-TI-YA-N not K-RI-S-TI-A-N. Another example is Maria is written as MA-RI-YA not MA-RI-A

Baybayin is harder: ~ You can't write it fast (and what if you got a doctor writing? The tolerance of baybayin is low; need to be precise), or else it will look bad, it's like you're an engineer building bridges both end need to meet in the middle with precision, or it will look different; ~ We write it per syllable, unlike Chinese characters and Japanese Kanji may contain two or more syllables in one; e.g. 人 (hito) means people (or person); also if you translate an English sentence to Tagalog, it will make it longer: e.g. from "I live in the Philippines" to "Nakatira ako sa Pilipinas" which adds more pain; ~ Too many zigzag or change of rotation (clockwise and then counter-clockwise), straight lines then curves, if only we can simplify it like hiragana and katakana (too easy to write, try it vs the baybayin, also many variation and look alike, can we have standardization?); ~ Korean characters is not that ancient either, 'Hangul' was created in 1443 by Sejong the Great; ~ The simplified Chinese characters: "though most closely associated with the People's Republic, the idea of a mass simplification of character forms first gained traction in China during the early 20th century. In 1909, the educator and linguist Lufei Kui formally proposed the use of simplified characters in education for the first time"; which is also intentional to improve clarity with computer pixels?
