Bayonetta 3 is an action-adventure game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It was directed by Yusuke Miyata and produced by Yuji Nakao, with the Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya as executive director. It was announced in December 2017, and was released on October 28, 2022. The game follows the titular angel-hunting witch Bayonetta, who must face against man-made bioweapons called Homunculi, and an entity known as the Singularity which threatens to destroy the multiverse. She is assisted by an ensemble of characters, including a coven of alternate universe versions of herself; and a new witch-in-training named Viola.
Following its initial announcement at The Game Awards 2017, news on the game went dormant while PlatinumGames worked to release games such as Astral Chain, which was developed concurrently. The game had its first full reveal with gameplay in September 2021 during a Nintendo Direct presentation. Bayonetta's original voice actor, Hellena Taylor, was replaced by Jennifer Hale after a pay dispute that would draw media coverage. The game received positive reviews, with the combat systems, gameplay innovations and overall improvements, though the story and camera received minor criticism.

@@connie0106 I have high hopes that they are still alive. As brutal as Jeanne's death is I believed it was deliberately done including Cereza's due to a last minute or some rush decision made by PG. Additionally, the entire storyline is very terrible and too ambiguous to understand, it felt as if it was rush at a last minute attempt to gain profit. The biggest question is why is PG so desperate to finish this game's storyline unlike the first two which are far more cohesive.

It is really heartbreaking to see that scene but there is still a lot of ambiguity to it, if you notice carefully, Jeanne and Cereza are much weaker than usual and not like the ones we see in the first and second games. This does not make any sense, that is why I believe that these are not the original characters but rather different variations of them in another time displacement.

On top of OG Bayo actually showing up at the end, it's explicitly stated in Love Is Blue and Scarborough Fair's descriptions, they added a line to the usual descriptions explaining that they were created for another Bayonetta.

They nerfed all the Bayos (and Jeannes) so hard in this game. Some of them died way too easily… Like Whittingham Fair Bayo not using Bat Within even though she saw that laser coming for a solid second (had time to react and gasp at it approaching), while Bayo in Bayo 2 had like 0.01 seconds to dodge all of those bullets Balder redirected at her). Then there’s Japanese Bayo “being caught off guard” even though she felt the ground rumbling for a couple of seconds, Chinese Bayo already starting to crack from merely getting grabbed, Jeanne dying from a laser that takes a couple seconds to fire (see how the arm retracts) from someone in a fixed position… the only three deaths that sort of made sense were Egyptian Bayo (it’s a black hole - what can you even do?), French Bayo (you can’t really escape sound and those notes must have been destructive) and French Rosa imo.

The only Bayonetta I could see dying if the story was rewritten is French Bayonetta, I can definitely see her in a constant state of turmoil as her world was destroyed and her mother killed off by our Bayonetta, even if she didn’t want to kill her, even if this is an alternate variant of Rosa. French Bayo in some way would harbour hatred towards Bayonetta for killing off Rosa and could turn on the team of Bayonettas to avenge her mother, only to get killed off in her vengeful rage.

I don’t know why Jeanne’s death was rushed. Even though she could react to speed quickly but got backstabbed by Sigurd? And finding out that Sigurd was the villain in the game? That’s just came out of nowhere. Also why there are so many Bayonetta variants died when they need to save some few characters that are helpful to move the plot well. And also, why wasn’t Rodan showing off? He’s always stayed in his bar, doing nothing but let Bayonetta and her allies died off in front of us. And for Bayonetta, she needs to stop standing there and watching them suffering and just do something about them to save them from Homunculi. Plus, Singularity, being the most powerful character in the game, needs to have weaknesses. Making him a flawless villain does not make him a great antagonist to write. The writers of this game rushed it through it without slowing it down. And never answers our questions, just us questions those answers.

I feel like a lot of this writing is bad and inconsistency, I've been a fan of series since 2009, and I have never seen Bayonetta THIS weak and slow with her decision making, in Bayonetta 1 and 2 she literally makes decisions on the spot, she literally protects Baby Cereza, Luka, and Loki, but in this game when she's sees others in danger, she literally just stands there or needs to be saved. This Bayonetta is supposed to be even more powerful than the rest because she was never sealed and learned Demon slave, but to me she's the weakest, this is not the Bayonetta who killed God twice and headbutted a skyscraper across an entire island while fighting her father.

Same here, I have also been hardcore Bayonetta fan since 2009, this 3rd game is nothing but a great disappointment, heartbreak and worst of all disgrace for us. The first two games have cohesive and well-explained storylines and character development arcs but this one has very little to none. There was not even a slightest mention of Cereza's parents Balder and Rosa let alone a minor appearance from them.

I don't think i need to say it on here but just in case *SPOILERS* My issue with the way things unfolded in this game is the MASSIVE disconection from bayo 1 and 2, sure, in both of those games bayo had times in which she struggled but she has never felt as weak as this game WANTED her to feel, we're talking about a woman who literally punched the goddess of light into the sun and went toe to toe with the god that created the world itself. And i'm not talking about the boss homunculi, even regular enemies seem to give her a hard time most of the time. There's also the luka stuff, which came out of nowere, in both bayo 1 and 2 he was a supporting character at best, to say now that he's some kind of big shot with a HUGE role on every universe is just... unjustified for the character. And finally, the game never really explains what sigurd motivation is as a villain, even his plan as singularity doesn't make sense. If he just needed the alphaverse as a trap that means that he could've just killed "original" bayo and be done with that universe without running trought all the trouble to set a trap in the first place. There's also the strange abscense of inferno and paradiso in the whole conflict, i mean the world is getting destroyed, you would think that would upset someone on those factions but no, they just let everything happen for some reason. Sorry for the long rant, i just think there was a lot of bad writting in this game even thou the game itself plays amazingly.

- Bayonetta herself didn't punch Jubileus into the sun. That was technically Sheba, summoned by Bayo and Jeanne together. - Bayonetta barely stood a chance against final-form Aesir. She and Balder are basically get knocked around by Aesir until Loki depowers the Eyes and thereby significantly nerfs Aesir. - Luka's significance wasn't really pushed in B1 and B2, and I'm sure that his importance was basically retconned in by B3, but honestly it makes more sense to have him suddenly become important as Arch-Adam compared to, say, Balder. (That in itself is a bit...eugh. Unless you're into father-daughter incest.) I think a big part of the issue is that because there haven't really been any other examples of "alternate universe Bayonetta stories" other than Bloody Fate, we don't really have a reason to assign that much importance to any of the "supporting characters," but even in B2 Bayonetta comments that Luka has the knack for showing up at the perfect moment. His importance to the stories of B1 and B2 is a lot more subtle (and, fairly enough, a bit forced in the writing) than Jeanne's or Balder's, but it's there, and I think that B3's biggest struggle was that it was a case of "tell, don't show" that fell through. Also keep in mind, in B1 he's basically stalking Bayonetta, and in B2 she's clearly only just got to the point of toying around with the idea of a full relationship with him. (Once again, Bloody Fate being the only other real content we've got for the franchise is problematic.) So the only real problem about "Luka wasn't that big a deal before" is the fact that we don't have any content showing what happened after B2; it's completely possible, just never made canonical before B3, that he became a big part of her life at that point. - I have a suspicion that what the writers failed to make clear enough is that the Bayonetta 1, Bayonetta 2, and Bayonetta 3 Bayos were supposed to have basically been the strongest ones out of all of the multiverse. In most multiverse stories, it's usually taken for granted that not every variant of a character will have been the same power level. There may have been some verses where Cereza wasn't born a witch, or where she died early, or where Jeanne killed her instead of sealing her away or training her, or where Singularity took her out in one quick and easy battle and overran those verses immediately. Once again, B3 may be a legitimately good example of why "show, don't tell" can sometimes be a good rule of thumb for story writing. Maybe he needed the trap to get rid of the "original" Bayonetta because she was the 3rd strongest Bayonetta in existence, etc. - Why would Inferno and Paradisio care about this conflict? It's not like Singularity openly expressed an interest in invading either of the other two realms...yet. In B1, Paradisio was making moves to try and use Jubileus to merge the realities into one (basically the "make everything Paradisio" campaign), so they clearly don't give a shit if Purgatorio and Chaos are destroyed or merged into a single plane of order. Inferno just doesn't want Paradisio to win. I doubt the demons of Inferno would actually care if the witches and humans completely disappeared due to Purgatorio/Chaos self-imploding and wiping itself from existence, as long as that cataclysm didn't take Inferno with it. Honestly, I think something that _really_ should have been explored was the fact that Cereza, as a child of an Umbra Witch and a Lumen Sage, was supposed to have been some kind of world-threatening mix of darkness and light, yet we never see anything come of that. I think it would have been interesting for B3 to have had Balder involved in the story and to have shown this third variant of Bayonetta actually being able to interact with both Demons and Angels to fight Singularity's monsters. It would have made for a slightly more interesting setup at the end to have Viola be this quartered child of light, dark, faery, and human.

Technically, by the lore of the game, it's implied that "Bayonetta" may have been more of a title or moniker than her actual name, especially with the final duel between Viola and Dark Eve and the final cutscene with Viola and Rodin implying that Viola now carries the name of Bayonetta. It's the perfect way for them to start a new trilogy focused around Viola or some other descendant without having to keep finding new shit for Cereza to get into, because honestly, how do you go beyond saving the multiverse?

I noticed that every permadeath from every Bayonetta was displayed by them getting turned into red crystal and shattered. This might be proof that Arch Bayonetta is not dead. She was killed in the same way Jeanne was killed in Bayonetta 2, having their soul ripped out by Gomorrah and dragged into the Inferno. Getting your soul dragged to hell is not a guaranteed death. It's been proven that an Umbran witch can be freed from hell as long as their body remains intact and their soul gets liberated from hell. Luka was by her side when they were dragged to hell, which means her soul is safe for the moment. as long as Luka can keep her soul safe, it's possible for Viola to save them both.

Me too, it’s so sad cause I was *loving* Bayonetta 3 until I hit the finale and rushed plot points. There was so much potential to be had and it gave me whiplash so many times with how quickly these things happened without being developed in a meaningful way. I wish every Bayonetta survived and Jeanne too, I honestly have mixed feelings towards the ending of Cereza and Luka dying, cause on the one hand, I kinda get what the writers were trying to do. The point of Bayonetta failing was to establish the threat and power of Singularity, but on the other hand. Bayonetta and everyone did not have to be so weak just to get killed off and advance the plot. Viola barely had time to develop and as someone commented on a video, Viola should’ve been named Violetta instead which would’ve made more sense as daughter of Bayonetta and Luka, plus violet is a shade of a purple.

The plot has too many holes if you compare it to 1 and 2. Given how most of these characters die from something that can be avoided. I strongly believe Bayonetta and Jeanne is still alive somewhere in the alternate timeline. This one died way too easy. All of this just would've been so much better if it could be slotted under "bad ending". Seriously just have it be that if you have a high enough score in each fight where a character dies then you are instead able to save that character. Those first credits are for the bad ending, second for the normal ending, and the dance party is reserved for the best ending. If them surviving could pose problems for the story just have them going off to other universes to try and get the chaos gears in those, could even serve as DLC content.

As it stands if the main Bayo died in any of those worlds the quest to save the multiverse would be back to square one. And once again, the point of sending them off is only to get them out of the story if keeping them around would pose a problem, it's not meant to be useful.

Ok so, the amount of people who think that the variants are dead is shocking, so let me explain the ending because it was poorly communicated. Anyone killed by Singularity had them and their worlds restored (sorry rosa and Egyptian Jeanne). We know this for three reasons. A, Enzo's family died in the prologue but are back in the final cutscene. B, when the variants of Bayo are jumping singularity, when they get hit, they simply dissipate, and we know what it looks like when an Arch Eve gets killed by Singularity. They simply got sent back their homeworlds is all. C, when Bayo 1 and 2 assist prime Cereza, Singularity states he killed them and their worlds long ago. He also is shocked that "Phenoma once affirmed is changing" aka what he's been doing is being undone. So that raises some questions: where is Jeanne during the epilogue cutscene? Most likely mourning Cereza or they just forgot to write her into a scene. The latter is more likely considering how messy this story's writing gets in the last half. Is whittingham fair Bayo back? Maybe. If so it's not like Viola would know, because their in different universes. So I hope that clears some things up. Thanks for reading!

To sum it up for people that are incapable/unwilling of understanding a simple plot, the deaths are as follows. V. mother - Overpowered Japanese C. - Prolonged wounds (would have been better executed without the prolonged hesitation) Chinese C. - Froze due to having to face killing a human, nevermind herself. Egyptian C.- Sacrifice due to momentary vulnerability of her counterpart. Egyptian J. - Froze due to having to face killing her oldest friend. French C.- Mercy Killing French R. - Froze due to having to face killing her mother, but eventually given the resolve to pull the trigger. Jeanne - Let her guard down. And no, she isn't all seeing. Main C. - Overexertion to the point of helplessness led to the loss of her control over a demon that is an eager predator. Dark Eve - Destructive amalgation remnant that ending up serving as a final exam for Viola, thus earning the name Bayonetta. People really need to pay attention to the actual game, rather than skimming for the next spectacle high.

What is super infuriating is how just completely nonsensical these deaths are. I understand "Cutscene deaths" are meant to separate the power level of a character from the gameplay, but this is just wack. In fact Our Bayonetta gets Stabbed through the chest with Five Massive claws from Strider Luka and heals from it, but in the next scene Jeanne who is basically just as strong gets stabbed once in the back and dies immediately. Huh???

I disagree with a lot of the writing with this whole game but here’s one of my biggest things. We’re going with a multiverse angle (I don’t think Bayonetta needed a multiverse angle at all but fine) A. Why do all the multiverse worlds just look like normal places (with the only exception being China) and B. If we’re going for a multiverse angle why not have alternative versions of Balder or Loki or Rodin? It just seems like so much of this was missed or way too out there for this game.

To be fair, the multiverse is mostly to get to the different Bayonettas that would come from different environments. Though Singularity notes that the world featuring China takes place in present day & is just extremely different, resembling the past. And Rodin, as someone from inferno / paradiso wouldn't have alternates in the world of Chaos, but Loki and Balder were sorely missed in this game :(
